Today, we're going to be reviewing Part Number RA-25. This is the Rack'em Manufacturing Lock'em Magnum Wheel Lock. This system is designed to go around your wheel. It is reversible, so in this side, you're going to be able to fit 12" to 15" wheels, on this side, you're going to be able to fit 15" to 20" wheels. You can see how it separates. Nice steel construction with rubber-coated arms, so it's not going to do any damage to your wheel.
Now, this system is going to be perfect for trailers, different types of trailers, vehicles, agricultural use, so can even slap this thing on a tractor and lock it in place. It's going to help prevent theft. We're going to put the Rack'em Wheel Lock on a few different applications today. The first one is going to be right here on our truck tire. Now, there's a few things to keep in mind when installing this. For an easier install, it's nice if you go ahead and set the keys towards the outside of the vehicle so it's going to make your install a little bit easier as far as getting access to the key into the lock.
The other thing to keep in mind is you definitely need to choose the right side. It has a sizing chart right here. Our wheel today is a 17"-wheel, so we're going to use this area down here. When we flip it, it's going to allow it, the key, to be on the outside. Then all we have to do is place one unit behind the wheel, then we're going to take the other half and slide the two pieces together. Then all we have to do is move the key to a lock position.
You can see here that it's going to hold the wheel lock in place, so if we try to drive forward, it's not going to go anywhere. That's going to dig into the ground, and if we try to reverse, this is going to come up and eventually hit our bumper or the frame of our vehicle. It's really going to do a good job at preventing anybody from being able to take off with our vehicle. Now, we're here at our trailer. We're dealing with a 13" wheel, and so, again, using a sizing chart, it's going to indicate that we need to use this size for a 13"-wheel. We're going to go and separate the two units, place them back together, and then simply move it to a lock position.
If we try to move our trailer forward, you can see here that that wheel lock is going to prevent it from being able to move in a forward motion. Keep in mind that the wheel lock may not fit some low-profile tires. It's going feature one lock. It's going to come with two keys. Now, you want to be sure that you record your key number. Etrailer always has good reviews, good customer service, and great prices. Time will tell if the RA-25 is effective in preventing theft. It is really easy to attach - once its unlocked, you can remove the key and just clamp the 2 halves around the tire - done! I have a medium size atv trailer with 13" wheels and it fits good - the tips of the arms just touch the rim inside and out - there is no way its coming off. It is nice and flat making it easy to store when not in use. The keys and locking mechanism seem well made and work smoothly. Yes, I got locking lug nuts too, so its not easy to remove the wheel.

As a mentor of a high school robotics team, I purchased this lock for use on U-Haul rental trailers/trucks for out of town and in town events/competitions. It has been used extensively over the year and has never failed to function as advertised. Very easy to apply and remove. Would recommend to anyone looking for a way to provide an additional layer of security to help prevent theft of a trailer/vehicle but not the contents, obviously. When used for its intended purpose it should deter the average thief. I posed the question to my students as a teaching moment and they responded with the two concerns I would have with this product. It can be defeated by carefully cutting through one of the arms using a grinder or sawzall. Granted, that would take some time and would be quite noisy, two things the average thief would like to avoid. The other method would be to jack up the vehicle, remove the wheel with the lock, and put on a spare. Again, time consuming and not something your average thief would want to attempt due to the time and effort involved. I would give this product five stars for its intended purpose, ease of use and price point.

I'm a little concerned about this lock. Even using the smaller of the two side, the lock doesn't really "grab" the wheel like I had hoped. By twisting the lock to the side I can get one of the arms to fit into one of the slots in the wheel itself. Then if I close the slide as tight as possible, it does seem to hold better. However, I think it could be moved back to the 'in line' position shown in the photo in the product description. Oriented in that manner it appears to me that the tire and wheel could turn inside of the jaws and the trailer could be slowly moved. If so, the only real protection would come from the outside are destroying the value stem and letting the air out of the tire. I'm not sure I would buy this lock again based on the way it fits my trailer. It may fit better on your trailer.

I'm using this on a utility trailer but can find many more uses for it. Having the ability to use it on so many different wheel/tire sizes in one package is a major plus. This is an easy to carry product that simply gives you peace of mind. Leaving your trailer in a hotel parking lot while you are enjoying a bit of civilization. No worries, even though our camper is an easy target, we simply park it and leave. It is not that heavy and it fits nicely in our front storage bin. It definitely gives the look and feel of security. Great product-- had it now for one year on the wet (oops make that west) coast and it has held up very well to the weather. The paint finish is a bit more faded than I might have expected but really, if that is the only problem, I won't hold that against it. I use this on my boat trailer and was sure to take a photo as proof to my insurer that I have demonstrated due diligence in securing my trailer, both while in storage and when traveling.

This wheel lock is just what I needed for storing a trailer. It is heavy duty and easy to install or remove when needed. It adjusts to fit the wheel and locks down with the turn of the key. Nothing can totally prevent theft, but a thief will have to work pretty hard to get my trailer with this wheel lock and the other anti-theft equipment that I use. I have only had Thanx! wheel locks for a couple of weeks, but it gives me peace of mind that they are on there. I don't know how hard it would be to break the lock with a hammer and screwdriver but at least the body of it would take a while to cut through it or they will have to take the wheel off and run on three.
I do wish it would actually go into the holes of the rim!!

I tried this on some wheels and it works great. The keyed lock is a more "pick-proof" type design.
The wheel lock goes on easily and is removed easily.
When not in use, I keep it in my pickup bed. Since the wheel lock is relatively flat, it doesn't take much storage space unlike some other designs I've seen.

Seems like a very high-quality product, very sturdy and works well. My only problem is that someone could replace the tire with a spare, bypassing the wheel lock, but that seems like an unlikely scenario. Nevertheless, I plan to get some kind of locking lug nut or hub lock to ensure that isn't a possibility.

Fits tight (against rim), seems sturdy, easy to use. Only time will tell if it thwarts thieves, but it looks promising. I like the rubber coated tongs to avoid scratches and I like being able to lock without key. I recommend adding lug nut lock as thieves could simply replace tire.

A set of heavy-duty bolt cutters may be able to break the locking pin on the Trailer Coupler Lock, # 63226KA. The locking pin for this coupler lock is 1/2 inch in diameter and is made of 1407 steel. There are heavy duty bolt cutters that are available at hardware stores that have the ability to cut up to 1/2 inch or 9/16 inch diameter objects.

It is possible to move a trailer by just attaching to it's safety cables. Most people would avoid the method you described as the trailer will slam into the back of the tow vehicle while stopping. Basically it wouldn't be a thief's ideal method for theft of a trailer but it would be an option.

One easy way to prevent someone from removing the ball would be to use a ball mount that has the ball attached (welded) to the shank. That way you won't have to weld a ball to a shank that isn't meant for that type of modification. Some examples include # 45325 or something adjustable that locks like # DTALBM6600.
A Wheel lock such as # RA-25 would also be a good idea. The trailer would not be able to be moved with a wheel lock like this on it.

It would be very hard for someone to move the trailer with the Rack'em Magnum Wheel Lock, part # RA-25, attached to your wheel. When the unit is locked the prongs will not move, but the prongs are designed to go through the wheel hole. My technical contact at Rackem earnestly believes even if a thief deflated the tires on the trailer that the Rackem Magnum Wheel Lock # RA-25 would not be defeated.

If you look on the coupler on your trailer, it should have the size stamped on it. The Diversi-Tech Universal Trailer Coupler Lock, part # DT25013, is designed to fit 1-7/8, 2, and 2-5/16 inch couplers, so chances are that this universal lock will fit the coupler you have on your Airstream. I pulled the Rack em Magnum Wheel Lock, # RA-25, and found that it measured 1 inch x 7/8 of an inch at its narrowest point at the end of the arms. It would be difficult for a thief to use bolt cutters to cut through the arms of this wheel lock and if they did manage to do so, cutting near the ends of the arms will most likely not be enough to actually remove the lock from the wheel. You could remove your breakaway switch pin while your trailer is in storage, however, a determined thief will get what they want in the end. If he went through the trouble to break in and attempt steal your trailer, it would not be a problem for him to simply cut the wires from the breakaway switch. I pulled a Rack'em Magnum Wheel Lock, part # RA-25 from our warehouse and tried it out on a couple of tandem trailers we have here. I tried to attach the lock to a tandem trailer with 14 inch tires on it. It is designed to really be used on one wheel at a time. Thank you for providing a description of the tire size for which you want a lock. Based on your description ("18-inches from the center of the wheel to the outer tread") it sounds like you have a tire with an overall diameter of approximately 36-inches. Please refer to the linked photo.

I have a solution for you to lock your trailer that has a Goose Box installed on it, but there aren't any coupler locks we offer like the part # 2989AT that you referenced that will fit since the coupler of the box doesn't have the same shape/dimensions as a standard gooseneck.
Your best option would be a wheel lock like the Rack'em Manufacturing Lock'em Magnum Wheel Lock # RA-25. This type of lock fits basically all trailers regardless of the coupler style so it would be a great option.

The uniqueness of the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection part # AM3225 acts as some-what of a theft-deterrent. Most likely a thief wouldn't have this adapter on their vehicle.

What I would recommend for your fifth wheel is actually a wheel lock since the Ranch Hitch part # AM3100 doesn't have a great way to lock it.

We offer two wheel locks that are able to be keyed alike, the Rack'em Lock'em Magnum Wheel Lock # RA-25 and the Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock # WI491KA-491LNP. Between the two of these, I personally favor the Rack'em Lock'em Wheel Lock # RA-25. There are replacement keys available for the Lock'em in case you need any extras or lose a key. The Claw XL does not offer replacement keys. The Lock'em is also more economically friendly.

To activate a breakaway system such as # 20099 you would just pull the pin out of the switch. With the pin removed the metal contacts inside can touch completing the circuit and supply 12 volt power from the breakaway battery to the trailer brakes. It will not release the brakes until the pin is reinserted or the battery dies. I do not recommend this as a method of theft prevention or to keep the trailer from rolling.
