Hitch lock (# 7683) fits 2" x 2" trailer hitches (class III and class IV)

This is a hitch and trailer lock set and they are keyed alike. This lock set is designed for 2 inch X 2 inch class III and IV receiver hitches. The trailer lock fits a lever style couplers with a half inch span overall. We will go ahead and show you the operation of these locks, it is pretty easy. Simply undo the cover and put your key in. Then you can twist the key or you can just hold the key and twist on the other side and it comes apart. To lock it up you do the same thing, and then a quarter to a half turn the key comes out and it is locked. The same thing applies to the coupler lock here, we will show you that installed on a coupler. We have our coupler here, it is a typical trigger style coupler, it is pretty common, small trailers to have them.

Basically the lock inserts into this hole right here, again we just take our lock apart like so. It just goes on through. And there you have it, it locks on to ball and it cannot go anywhere. Now we will go ahead and show the receiver lock installed. It is pretty simple, it just goes through it as far as you can go and there you have it. That is it for part # 7685.

Some people did not like the fact you had to screw the key to take it apart. BUT I belive this was thought out well and was one of the only ways to make this bullet proof. A little extra time is worth the security.71418

Product seems well made. I do not like the fact that you have to turn the key (unscrew) to unlock or lock the device. I was hoping you just pushed the device on the turn the key 1/4 to lock or unlock. Kind of a pain!! 42205

Weight Capacity of Hitch Lock part # 7685
Our hitch locks have the same capacity as a standard hitch pin. If you are worried about strength you could go with a stainless steel model like part # 40107, but since your hitch capacity is 6,000 pounds, part # 7685 would be fine. It takes quite a bit of force to shear a 5/8 pin. Usually the ball will shear off or the ball mount bend before anything else fails. I have not heard of anyone breaking any of hitch pins or hitch locks.

Trailer Hitch Size on a 2002 Chevy Silverado
If you have the factory hitch installed on your vehicle, then it is the 2 inch by 2 inch receiver hitch. If it is an aftermarket hitch on your vehicle then it is most likely a 2 inch receiver hitch. You will need to measure the inside width of the opening on the hitch where the receiver slides in. The measurement should be apparent when you use a ruler or tape measure.
