The dimensions of this are 23x56, which are on the inside of the cargo carrier itself. If you notice the sides actually slant out a little bit to provide a wider area on top, which comes out to almost 59 inches. As you can see here it has a heavy duty expanded metal base to it, this is actually one of the heaviest cargo carriers we carry. Also on the side of the rails it has built-in cut outs in case you want to add a light kit to it. This cargo carrier comes in five pieces. It sounds like a lot but it is actually realy easy to assemble. I will show you the pieces and how it comes. As I said before, it will come to you in five pieces and it is really easy to assemble. You will have a left and right hand side of the basket, two chrome handles, and last piece is the shank itself. You can see the front half of the shank here, and it goes all the way back here to your hitch. This is all a welded one piece unit. You can see here the shank has a two inch rise to it, which really helps vehicles that sit low to the ground.
So if yours does sit low to the ground this will give you a two inch rise that would be helpful to low setting vehicles like minivans. One final feature is a nice little detail if you intend to leave this on your vehicle for an extended period of time, like a road trip, what you need to do is keep your license plate in plain view. As you can see here on the handle itself, there are two holes and these are in perfect alignment to install your license plate temporarily. And in covering some of the features on this cargo carrier, besides from the two inch raise on the shank itself, the whole thing is powder coated so that is going to be durable against rust and corrosion. There is also, as we covered before, an optional light kit that is available for the part. And its carrying capacity itself is 600 pounds. However, you do want to check with your hitch and see what its tongue weight capacity is. And there you have it for part number 59502 from Rola. And also available from Rola is part number 59507 for 1-1/4 inch receivers with a 300 pound capacity.

We bought this 2 summers ago because with 4 kids and a dog, even using the roof rack is not enough when we camp. This is well made, easy to set up, and feels like it will last much longer than the SUV we attach it to. We got the light kit, which was easy to install, and well worth the $30. This fits our dog kennel, a huge cooler, and lots of odds and ends held down with a cargo net, leaving more room inside the car for things people want to get at while driving.. Well worth the money, and eTrailer is the place to get it. Its going to the Grand Canyon in a few weeks when we hit the road for Spring Break.7885

Exactly what I needed! I ordered my cargo carrier on a Saturday and received it on Wednesday. Shipping was free and delivery was via fedex. It took only about 20 min to assemble and fit perfectly on my 03 Chevy Suburban. Only draw back was the carrier didn't come with a hitch post (but that can be ordered seperately) and when it did arrive the surface was scratched along the top in 2 places. Other than that it is a great product and I will definately order from etrailer again.3868

All that I had hoped for..... I researched several cargo carriers before deciding on this one. We are planning a trip to the west coast in January, and I wanted something I felt would with stand the travel of mountain passes and the possiblity of some pretty tough road conditions. The shipping was fast...received the carrier 3 days from the date of order. The quality is great. Not one blemish on the paint or any bends or flaws on the unit. I also ordered the light kit. The kit is easy to install and the only thing I added was plastic tubing to protect the wires before tie strapping them onto the trailer. All in all, It took about an hour to assemble the carrier and light kit. This unit looks real nice on the back of our 04 Denali and will allow us to carry the extra luggage we have for our trip. But this one and be happy!!! I have had mine now for 3 going on 4 years. I looked at several carriers before I got this one. I decided to pick this carrier out of all the ones out there as it seemd very solid and well made and had a different look that the rest of them out there. It is! I couldn't be happier with it. Very easy to put together and the Anti-Rattle Device is very nice and gives it a soild feel on the vehicle. You Don't know it is back there (be careful backing up). I added the Light kit which is excellent and easy to put on for highway travel. I would buy it again if I had too but this one won't fall apart so I guess I don't have too!!3120

A very well built carrier. The carrier was very easy to assemble, it took less than 10 minutes of actual work after getting the parts out of the box and reading the instructions. The optional light kit presented a slight problem. Because the wagon I will haul on the carrier has a wheel base as wide as the carrier, and the tires from the wagon are located right where the light kit sits in the carrier, the tires would pop out the light kit. I went to my local trailer supply and bought 2 brackets for an oblong taillight for $7.95 each. The bracket is attached with 2 nuts and bolts and 2 fender washers to the bottom of the wire cage. If I choose I can still use the same lights in the original location. I can just un-plug the lights, pop them out and pop them back in the original location, plug the wires back on in less than 2 minutes. I noticed a few customer comments about having trouble with installing the light kit wiring. After watching the video on the installation for the light kit, I had no problem with that part of the installation at all.2141

Great Product We bought one of these to carry extra stuff like coolers and Dog Crates when we go camping, and its a really well made, good looking device. With 4 kids and a dog, there is not much room left in the Sequoia. This makes it possible to make the trip with one car, and it was well worth the money. The light kit does seem like it should lock in tighter, but we have never had any issues with the lights coming out, so I guess the company knows what its doing. As someone mentioned, it is heavy, so best if attached by two people, but one person can put it on if you are careful.1461

I love this carrier I travelled a lot in the US and saw vans and trucks with cargo carriers. I also saw a late model Camaro with a cargo carrier. Told myself to buy one since I've never seen one in Montreal. Had this item shipped to my friends house in Florida last July during family vacation. Had the cooler, beach chairs and umbrella placed on the carrier. It kept the trunk free of sand. When I got back in Montreal, lots of people inquired where I got the carrier because they never saw one. I'm kind of proud to be the first to own one in Montreal. I told them to check etrailer.com October starts hockey season for my son. When I have to pickup other kids from my son's team, I use the carrier to carry additional hockey bags. I use the carrier on my '04 Impala. I like the fact that it is raised by 2". I use this carrier whenever I cannot fit things in the trunk. I also bought the LED light kit. I have problem with the plug. It comes off or becomes bent when items on the carrier bumps to it. I am planning to screw a metal cover to protect the plug. As for the powder coating, I hope the carrier does not rust as fast since our winters here are harsh and we use lots of salt on our roads. Overall, I highly recommend this carrier.1420

Excellent Rack!! I have had at least 2 racks in the past which mount on the trailer hitch. Each was a disappointment. I saw this one and thought I'd give it another try. It is really outstanding. Very well built, heavy duty and it's especially great in that you can use it with a trailer hitch which is low to the ground and it is elevated which keeps anything from being close to the ground. We're going to use it with our Honda minivan, as well as my Suburban. Can't say how well made and how good a design this is. The only thing I am concerned about is we got the optional light kit and the lights don't seem to sit solidly in the carrier. They seem fairly loose, but I have wire-tied the cable to the basket frame so it won't fall out completely. I am really looking forward to using this carrier. It's the very best of all of them as far as I can tell. 377

I researched 6 cargo hitch carriers varying from $70-$250 before making this purchase, I would highly recommend this product. It's VERY heavy, but also VERY heavy duty. The rails do not bend even under extreme force, assembly was 15 minutes, and the powder coat finish is very clean looking. The square tubing hitch receiver is much thicker (more durable, more weigh bearing) than any others I've come across, and the hitch bar supports all the way to the end in one solid piece. Spend the extra $50-$100 and get this one, it has a better warranty than most and certainly seems constructed to last 10+ years easily. 74544

The product I ordered was received in good condition. This is exactly what I need to take around my extra stuff ( suitcases, coolers, Home Depot stuff) that I do not want to put in my 2013 Cadillace SRX, to mess it up. I was hoping I would get two reflectors on the backside, because I look around for two to fit but is not able find anything suitable. The assemble instruction was a breeze.67886
I bought reflective tape, to not only cover the back but the side. I have a JK Jeep and someone hit it from the side! The light kit is a must but also add washers and some kind of reflection on the side I also did the back, just in case this is an awesome rack though and is still on the back of my Jeep taking all the punishment Ive thrown at it. It is a steep above all other racks IMO, it is somewhat heavy at 75lbs but well worth it for the adventures type or anyone who needs some extra room!

The holes in the back of the carrier are designed for 6-12 inch oval tail lights that would provide the same light functions that a trailer light would offer. Some states require that a cargo carrier be lit like a trailer, particularly if it obstructs vehicle tail lights. See the Related Products section on this page for links.

I used four steel washers (not included with product) when attaching the left and rignt side racks to the frame. The bolt head is only slightly larger than the bolt hole so the use of a washer keeps the head from being pulled into the hole. 57382

Excellent product. Strongly built; not flimsy at all. I like the vertical rise which increases ground clearance. And the larger grate offer many hook points for cargo so you are not limited to only the edges of the platform. I bought the LED lights. Offers excellent, enhanced visibility day and night. While the rubber inserts for the lens housing are not permanent, they hold the lights very well (if inserted correctly). Also, the wiring harness have sufficient lengths (did they improve it? I know there were complaints), biased with one long and one short. For me, perfect lengths for me to route and hook up to the trailer light socket. I would highly recommend it. I am so very pleased that I have finally bought it. I held out the decision to purchase for over a year! I shouldn't have waited.55833

Rola cargo carrier #59502 was delivered in about 4 work days. Box was in good shape when I recieved it , not like what I had read in some of the other reviews. The carrier is just how it was discribed and will work fine for carrying the things I want to carry. Went together easy. The fit is great on my 2012 Subaru Outback. Great service from etrailer.com! I received this Rola carrier two days after I ordered it! The quality of the carrier is excellent. Very strong, no wobble (I bought the anti-rattle hitch pin). I had some minor issues with assembly. I'm very mechnically inclined, but this is a big, heavy carrier to put together, and the two sides did not go together easily. It is designed so that the bottom rail on one side goes inside the bottom rail on the other side, but they were not aligned perfectly. After pushing and prodding for a long time, I still had a 1" gap. I used a large hammer (with padding) to close the gap to 1/2", then had to wrench like crazy on the bolts to finally close the gap. I had expected the assembly to take a few minutes, but it took me a little over an hour. Regarding the hardware, Rola did not include washers, which were necessary to attach to 2" base to the body of the carrier. The holes are enlarged to make assembly easy, so you will absolutely need eight 9/16" washers to attach the base to the body of the carrier. Finally, the Rola manual listed the wrong sizes for the bolts they included. The 7/16 bolts were actually 9/16, and the 3/8 bolts were actually 5/8. Not a big deal, but they should probably correct the manual.48614

First let me say I've ordered several products from e trailer over the past few years. E trailer has always provided timely delivery and good customer service which includes their price matching guarantee. I received my Rola Cargo Carrier in three days after placing the order. The box was a little beat up but it was sealed. The Rola is made of heavy steel, solid welds and is a nice looking carrier. I had two issues with the product, first it was missing a bolt, which the big box store did not carry. Second the Rola sticker on the back was falling off. I was able to overcome the bolt issue by up sizing to metric. I just pealed the sticker off so Rola is going to miss out on free advertising. Once the carrier was assembled I was pleased with how sturdy it is and how it fit on my 2011 Explorer. There are no issues with the tailgate opening. Although the Rola is heavy I can handle it alone or with my 10 year old helping out. There is no doubt this product will last for years and provide extra cargo storage when needed. Rola missed out on five stars since it was missing hardware and the sticker issue. Overall I'm very pleased with the end product. 47974

Quality product. Easy to assemble and heavy duty construction. The only oversight is the installation of the optional led light kit. Once installed, there is no physical protection for the rear of the lights and wire connector. When installed, they protrude far into the usable cargo area to be easily damaged or displaced. There should be some type of metal protective cover provided.47355

Minor advice for anyone who orders the Rola Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier ~ do plan on having a reasonably good set of socket wrenches ready to put together. Six months since original review. Over a year of ownership now. Has been on the hitch pretty much continuously for over 6 months, just coming off once to tow a trailer and occassionally clean the receiver and make sure rust wasn't combining the two permanently. Since my apartment complex doesn't let me keep my trailer handy this has all but taken its place. Always in use, always abused, never less than solid. As in other reviews that I read prior to purchase, the product arrived in a torn box with an edge of the carrier exposed and slightly scratched. One other complaint is that the manufacturer should provide washers to go along with the bolts. The product itself is heavy duty and looks good behind my Yukon. This is one solid piece of equipment, very sturdy and holds my food cooler, beer cooler (bigger) and still have room left for the camping table, stove, tents, bags, and firewood. The perfect addition to my FJ Cruiser which to be honest doesn't have a ton of internal storage. It was so easy to put together that I was shocked (was easier than putting office furniture together). i must have had it together in under 15 minutes with the aid of two sets of socket wrenches. It was shipped to my house in 3 days. I was very impressed with that. There was some minor scratches which i'm sure was from sliding around, the box was little damaged but it was all hidden when i put it together. It went together fast and easy 35 minutes from the time i started opening the package to the time it was complete. It looks great behind my 07 tahoe, looks like it came from the factory.
