Tow Ready Cargo Carrier Light Kit Review

Video Transcript for Tow Ready Cargo Carrier Light Kit Review

This is a Light Kit for cargo carriers 63153 and 63155. We will show you how this light kit gets installed on a cargo carrier which is part # 63153. To begin with we will install the grommets, they just snap into place. They will be a little bit loose, but when you install the light it will spread out a little further. Now we simply install our lights, again they pop into place. When you have them in make sure the grommet is snapped in on both sides. Again for the other side. What we need to do next is start our wire harness, you have a yellow and brown wire, which goes to the left hand side. The green and brown wire goes to the right side. You want to make sure before you begin you have the right wire going to the correct side. This is the left side of the vehicle so we will go ahead and start our wiring.

The wiring plugs in right here and it has to be perfectly straight or else it will be hard to press. Just take your time and it will slide right in. Once you have your first connection, take your harness and run it around the outside edge because its going to get zip tied all the way up front. We will take the green wire and run it over to the passenger side too. At this point we can zip tie the wire going over to the left hand side. At this point we have some excess wire so we will take that and zip tie it to this bracket here. Once you have all your zip ties done, snip off the ends and essentially your install will be complete. There you have it for part # 20174, the light kit for cargo carrier part #s 63153 and 63155

Like many of you I read all the reviews about this Cargo Carrier (63155) Light kit (20174), and net (7330) some were negative some were positive. Here is what I found with my order. When I first opened the box I found everything I ordered was in the box, however prior to receiving this package I had an email sent from one off the employees letting me know the order was packed everything was in stock and was shipped with the tracking information. (I was impressed with this and was impressed even more when a different employee sent me an email to let me know that the package was delivered so I knew to look for it when I got Home.) Ok so the Cargo carrier a real nice thick coat of black glossy paint. Looks great. There was a small amount of assembly which didn't require reading the enclosed direction because it was very obvious what went where. Very nice carrier. The light kit was packed in a bag if you read the reviews some were complaining about not enough wire and wire ties (tie straps) I found there was plenty of each but you will need to plan out the routing before you use your tie straps. The light kit is very easy to install took 4-5 minutes. The light kit is in my opinion an important add on because of the vehicle lights being partially or even fully blocked when the cargo carrier is loaded it offers brake, turn signal, and running lights the same as your vehicle would do. I highly recommend it. lastly the cargo net it really cool the hooks are easier to put on then the video online shows them to be. Overall if you need a carrier that is a class II 20 X 48 1 1/4" this is an excellent buy both price and quality.77873

Product came in a box to my door. Cargo trailer comes in 5 pieces w/ hardware. Assembly was not difficult. Feels strong. I'll probably buy some reflective tape to attach to the back of the trailer. 61167

Exactly as described online; came in a three piece kit that I was able to assemble on the kitchen floor. Very solid (the hitch shaft "backbone" weighs a ton!) and well made. FYI! It does require a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to spec (25ft.lbs and 75 ft.lbs) so keep that in the back of your mind when you order it. 46805

Pretty much as expected. Only thing that would be better would be a "stop" welded onto the tongue to prevent inserting it too far into the receiver. I did that inadvertently and had a hard time extracting it!32843

Ordered product online Wednesday afternoon and it was delivered to my home by Friday afternoon! Easy assembly done by my husband in less than 1 hour. He did have to rent a tourqe (sp?) wrench from our local hardware store, but that was the biggest problem we had. We plan on using the carrier next weekend for camping. Our pop-up camper didn't survive the winter, it leaked and is not useable this season:( We still enjoy camping with our family, but needed extra storage space for all the camping equiptment that our mini-van doesn't provide. I'm looking forward to filling the carrier and having some fun! I also called the 800 number for advice prior to ordering. The person I spoke to was informative and extremely helpful to me! 19000

I read a the reviews before purchasing this cargo carrier and noticed a lot of comments about the wiring. It does not fit in my trunk but the adapter that comes from my car was long enough that I could secure both wire leads to the cargo carrier out of harms way. As far as the carrier it was excellent and fit snuggly into the receiver hitch.11092

Assembly was easy, I bought the optional light kit which fit like a glove. The carrier sits far enough away from the vehicle to allow the hatch to open (Grand Caravan). This really was exactly what I was looking for to haul camping gear and free up space inside the vehicle. Delivery was incredibly fast (ordered Tuesday arrived Thursday). 10444

Extra cargo space... This is great to have when hauling large or messy items. I also liked that you can add tail lights to make it easier for other drivers to see, or if your cargo blocks your vehicle's primary brake lights.1819

Totally Pleased with Purchase My wife and I use this with our Ford Escape. It is very well made and we've traveled all over the country with it over the past year. WELL WORTH THE EXTRA FEW $$$ I bought a Hidden Hitch for my Subaru Outback so I wouldn't be bashing folks shins. Problem is, with a regular basket, you have to crawl under to get the pin in. With this raised basket it is MUCH EASIER. It is also nice that it is custom cut for tail lights when I want to go that route. If you have a Class2 hitch - THIS IS THE BASKET TO BUY.630

Cargo Carrier with side rails Cargo Carrier with side rails is much more heavy duty and much safer than a lot of the cheaper models I've seen. Also raised shank keeps load a bit higher so load is less exposed to exhaust and road debris. Well worth the few extra dollars for this model. Very nice - you get what you pay for.216

Ask the Experts about this Pro Series Hitch Cargo Carrier

  • Why is the 63155 Cargo Carrier a Class II Only
  • The 63115 20x48 cargo carrier is rated for class two only because of the load rating and because class two accessories will not physically fit into the class one hitch far enough for the hitch pin to line up and secure the shank. Class one hitches are only rated for up to 200 pounds tongue weight and class two hitches are rated up to 350 pounds tongue weight so the manufacturer makes the shank for the accessories according to how much weight the accessory is rated for.

You might subtract two pounds for the box and packaging material inside. This is one of our best selling cargo carriers and is set up for easy installation of a light kit, part number 20174, (see link below) if you need to add one because the taillights on your vehicle will be covered by the items on the carrier or your state requires taillights.
