Today, we'll be reviewing the Curt 20x60 Folding Cargo Carrier for 2-inch hitches, part number C18131. This hitch mounted carrier allows you to carry your extra cargo but gives you the versatility to fold it up quickly when not needed. This carrier features an expanded steel mesh floor and is powder coated to resist corrosion. The platform is slightly angled up for better ground clearance. The side rails help cargo in place and provide tie-down points. It also is convenient and folds up when not in use.
It has a weight capacity of 500 pounds and the side rails measure 6 inches high. Now that we've gone over some features and specs, we'll go and show you how it looks driving down the road. I just got back from a 2,000 mile road trip with this cargo carrier and it worked great. I also bought an anti-rattle lock instead of using the hitch pin and it held the carrier tight and stable. I didn't even notice the carrier was back there when I was on the highway. I had it hitched to my Acura MDX and it had plenty of room to open the rear door with gear already loaded on the carrier. I also used a Highland cargo bag and was able to fit 5 full duffle bags and a couple sleeping bags and still had room to put probably 1 or 2 more duffle bags. A con of the carrier is connecting the hitch pin. You have to align the holes where the hitch pin goes in exactly right or you'll never get the hitch pin in. I had to lift one side up sometimes and jiggle the carrier just to align the holes. It definitely was not a simple task like the etrailer video shows. The difficulty of connecting the hitch pin prevented me from folding the carrier up more often than I'd like to have done. Other than that, the carrier performed flawlessly.22964

Easy to put together. However, when folding up the side rails must push inwards the bumper to close. Not a good fit to my vehicle. Full closure means pushing my bumper a good inch. Driving with it up will cause paint damage and scratches. I wanted the high rails to keep items secure. So, not sure what I want to do yet. 79024

I bought this to supplement a cheep fixed carrier. All-in-all, very pleased. Solid construction. Fits perfectly on a 2013 Escape with a U-HAUL hitch. Nicky was outstanding in helping me make my selection. Like others have stated, the instructions are pretty much worthless but if you have any common sense, it's a breeze to put together. It would have actually been easier/faster if the manufacturer had left the instructions out completely.60807

I had researched what type of carrier I wanted to buy and settled on this one. I was a good size, folded and has a railing to attach straps to. I also wanted to buy a cargo bag and anti rattle hitch lock but was not sure which ones were the right ones for my vehicle and this carrier. I called the company and spoke with a woman who was very friendly and helpful. She was able to confirm that the cargo bag I was looking at would be a good fit and told me what anti rattle hitch lock would work best. I placed the order and could not wait to receive the items. I received a e-mail within an hour confirming my order and that the order had been shipped. I received the order in two days rather than three as I had been told which was a nice surprise. I put together the carrier by myself and put it on my 2012 Dodge Durango and it fit perfectly. I was very pleased. The instructions could be done a little better but I am very pleased with the service and product so far and am looking forward to using it on our first trip. I feel confident that I got the best products to fit my needs and a great price. 58681

I assembled the cargo hauler this morning and while I like the finished product, I had my doubts during the process of putting it together. I wish the instructions actually had directions as to the process. Things would have gone smoother if I had read that ,for instance, the support that fits into the device which allows the product to fold upwards had to go a certain way. Also the placement of the large bolt is vague,but important. I do look forward to using it on a trip next week and appreciate your prompt delivery. I suggest some reflectors be placed on the underside for when it is in the folded position.58096

Well built and easy to assemble. However, when folded it strikes the lift gate on my Jeep. I tried the smaller pin hole in the reciever,it still hits the gate. I'l have to buy an extention for the reciever. Otherwise a very good product.54534

Purchased this for my 2009 Suburban. We have four young kids so need lots of extra storage. Net: This product rocks and I highly recommend. The rack went together without a hitch, parts were machined/welded accurately. Took about 30 minutes, but only because my kids were 'helping'. The rack is ROCK SOLID once assembled and haven't had to tighten a single bolt. Fold up feature is great. Since I purchased this in June, 2012, it has traveled over 1,500 miles on two different trips, through rain and across many dirt roads and held up really well. Opportunities for improvement: - the box it arrives in is of very low quality. Fortunately, no damage. - wish the guard rows were higher - be careful on how tightly you fasten the bolt for the hinge, can get sticky Overall: the only thing I would do differently is to have ordered the 24" deep version rather than the 20". Also purchased the water resistant bag and the hitch lock - both highly recommended accessories.51801

Carrier arrived in fairly good shape. The side rails of the basket do not seal totally flush but it is workeable. When installing on the rear of a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse in folding position, a good shove (or 2) is needed to have the basket clear/rest on the rear bumper.48645

My cargo carrier came in just a little less than 3 days! Very easy installation! Have not used this yet, but it seems very sturdy with lots of space! Only drawback is that I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey Minivan and unless you have a receiver hitch that is longer than the one I purchased (5 & 1/2"), you will need an extension. When I fold the cargo carrier up out of the way, it hits my bumper and will not fold all the way up. Had to go back to etrailers and order a 7" extension! Overall, a great product and great company! 46960

This trailer requires a hitch extender to fold with my 2005 Chevy Equinox. Unfortunately, I didn't get a hitch extender so I won't be able to take advantage of the folding feature for my family vacation. Other than that, this unit was easy to assemble and seems to be very sturdy. 40024

Good quality. Simple to assemble, but it was an advantage to have a helper for assembly. Will not fold up completely to many cars with "Continental" spare tire. But the longer than usual extension allows it to fit such cars without folding up, whereas other cargo carriers with shorter shanks might not fit them. 39938

This was the first time I have ever order something from e-trailer. They did a great job. I would order from them again. I purchase a folding cargo carrier, anti-rattle device and lock and a Highland cargo carrier bag. The folding carrier works great on my 2010 Traverse. I will say that on the Traverse if you have the carrier in the upright position you will want to turn off your back up assist other wise it will go off every time you put the vehicle in reverse. The cargo bag did a good job protected my bags from a heavy rain storm. Overall a great purchase.21545

We just visited Washington DC with our 5 Grandchildren. Since the 2006 Rendezvous only has 7 seats and no storage this product was great. I purchased the Trailer Hitch and the Cargo Rack both. This is the 2nd Curt folding hitch carrier I've ordered from e-trailer. Their shipping is lightning fast (3 days in my case). Easy to assemble, this is a great add-on to almost any vehicle with a 2" receiver. You don't need this folding model if you have a spare on the rear door (it wouldn't clear my FJ rear-door mounted spare in the fold-up position). lt works, you just can't fold it up. 32223
