Deal yourself a winning hand and pick up the Yakima DoubleDown Ace - a souped-up version of the classic DoubleDown. This hitch-mounted bike rack offers a veritable full house of features, including anti-sway cradles, a tilting mast, folding arms and easy, tool-free installation.

You can leave the annoying wrenches at home when you transport your bikes with the DoubleDown Ace. To install this rack in your hitch, simply insert the shank, slide in the hitch pin, and give the built-in SpeedKnob at the front of the rack a spin. This hand knob tightens the rack in place, eliminating play inside the hitch. The knob also includes a Yakima Same Key System core that locks your rack to your hitch. SKS lock cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima accessories keyed alike.

The DoubleDown Ace comes with Yakima's SwitchBlade anti-sway cradles, which ensure that your bikes travel safely and securely. The cradles hold your bikes to the rack in three places - two along the top bar and one along a downward bar, such as a seat post. This third point of contact prevents not only sway, but also front-to-back movement and bike-to-bike contact. These cradles also slide along the rack arms to keep your bikes properly spaced - simply flip the integrated switch to release the cradle and slide it to the desired position. Soft rubber straps are also included to anchor your bikes in place.

This rack has narrowly spaced dual arms that offer excellent bike support and easy bike loading. And dual-arm support means that you're less likely to need a bike adapter bar. Some bikes, however - such as women's, children's and ones with alternative frames - may still require an adapter bar for level mounting. For security, an ArmLock cable lock is available (Y02453 - sold separately) to lock your bikes to the rack. This SKS-compatible cable lock installs inside the end of one arm, loops through your bike frame, and locks back on itself to secure your bikes.

The dual arms of the DoubleDown Ace fold down for storage. Simply press the TriggerFinger button at the head of the mast.

The rack body tilts forward, away from your vehicle, for easy access to your rear cargo area. Just pull the spring-loaded pin at the base.

For peace of mind, the DoubleDown Ace includes a tethered hitch pin. This pin holds the rack in place in your hitch and - since it's tethered to the rack - you never have to worry about losing it.

The 1-1/4-inch RocSteady steel shank comes with an easy-to-use adapter to convert the bike rack for use with 2-inch hitches.

And, as always, this Yakima rack comes complete with handy bottle openers built into the end of each arm.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Yakima DoubleDown Ace 5-bike carrier, for both1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number Y02452. The DoubleDown Ace features an anti-wobble knob that tightens the rack and your hitch without the use of tools, anti-swaycradles, as well as folding arms and a tilting mast. Here at the shank of the bike rack, you'll notice the adapter for 2" hitches. To remove the adapter, using the includedAllen wrench, we'll remove the Allen bolt here at the bottom of the shank, to removethe adapter. Now our shank is ready for a 1-1/4" hitch. Today we'll be using a 2"hitch, so we'll go ahead and re-install the adapter.
Here at our hitch, we'll go ahead and slide our bike rack shank into the hitch, lining up the hitch pin hole. You'll notice that the DoubleDown Ace has an attachedhitch pin. This hitch pin has a ball detent giving you the confirmation, when the pin isinstalled, that it's locked into place. Here on the back of the shank, on the mastof the bike rack, we can then turn the knob, securing our anti-wobble device to thehitch. Here on the knob, you'll notice Yakima used one of their SKS lock cores to lockand unlock the knob.
When the knob is locked, the knob will turn freely, although willnot turn the anti-wobble device, preventing the bike rack from being removed fromthe hitch. You'll notice when it's tight, that your bike rack is solid with the vehicle. You'll notice the pull pin here on the back on the mast. In order to tilt the bike rackmast down and gain access to your trunk, you'll pull this pin and tilt the mast down. You can then open your cargo door. Up here at the top of the mast, you'll noticethere's a trigger switch. This switch will allow you to bring out your dual arms, inpreparation to load your bikes.
You'll notice this bike rack has five sets of cradles. The anti-sway cagesalternate from left to right on the dual arms, making sure that your bikes alternatehandlebar positions. You'll also notice the cradles are molded in a way to hold thebike frame, and still protect the cables that run along the top bar of your bike. Wellundo the straps to expose the cradles. We'll place the bike into the cradles and bringthe rubber straps around, securing our bike to the bike rack.
We're going to goahead and mount our bike to the outermost cradles. This is purely for demonstrationreasons. When loading your bikes, you should always mount your bike to theinnermost cradles, and work your way out. You'll notice here on the front cradle, youcan place the strap in two positions on the other side of the cradle, depending on yourbike configuration. Also included with the DoubleDown are two straps. The short strap can be usedto hold the front wheel to the down tube of your bike, preventing your handlebarsfrom turning in the wind. The longer strap can be used to further secure your bikes tothe bike rack. We'll now go ahead and move our bike to the innermost cradles and re-secure it. We'll go ahead and add another bike, and we'll take it out on the road to seehow it performs. That will do it for the demonstration of our Yakima DoubleDown Ace 5-bikecarrier, for both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number Y02452. .
