For casual riders and beginners, Yakima offers the BigHorn 4 hitch mounted bike carrier for 2" hitches. An entry-level carrier with a four-bike capacity, the BigHorn provides safety and security for your bikes at a fraction of the cost of other, comparable racks.

tilting mast

The BigHorn 4 features an upright bar - or mast - that tilts away from the rear of the vehicle for easy access to the cargo area. The tilting mast operates with a standard pin and secures with a clip.

anti-sway cradles

The arms of the mast feature anti-sway (Standard SwitchBlade) cradles for bike stability. The wide cradles slide along the arms and accommodate a wide variety of bike frames. Soft rubber straps secure the bikes to the rack and help to eliminate front to back movement.

narrow arm design

The narrow arm design allows the rack to fit a variety of frame sizes and styles, reducing the need for bike adapter bars. You can rotate the anti-sway cradles in for easier bike loading.

sturdy hitch tongue

A heavy-duty (RocSteady) hitch tongue keeps both the carrier and your bikes stable during transport and features an anti-rattle device that reduces noise and movement in the hitch.

close view of bottle opener

The BigHorn 4 comes with a durable, powder coat finish and convenient bottle openers mounted at the end of each arm. The BigHorn 4 includes a standard hitch bolt and clip and comes backed by a lifetime warranty.

Improve the security of your rack with an integrated DeadLock cable lock and hitch lock (Y02411), an optional HitchLock (Y07235), or a LockUp (Y07238) cable lock and hitch lock set.

Yakima BigHorn 4 Bike Hitch Rack Review

Video Transcript for Yakima BigHorn 4 Bike Hitch Rack Review

Today we are going to show you part number Y02404 from Yakima. This is their BigHorn Hitch Mounted 4-Bike Carrier for a 2-inch receiver hitch. This is one of their more basic carriers, but it will do anything you need to. It will carry up to four bikes and transport your bikes securely and safely. All right, we will go ahead and install this on our 2-inch receiver using the anti-rattle bolt.

Just install it in the hitch, line up the holes, take your anti-rattle bolt, install it and thread it into place. And once you get it hand tight, you can go ahead and tighten it down with a 7/8-inch wrench. And then install your safety clip on the other side. All right, we will go ahead and show you the tilt feature on this bicycle rack. You simply just undo the pin, pull it out, and pull back on the carrier itself. And with that you have easy access to the back of your vehicle. All right, we will go ahead and install a bike and give you an idea of how it gets strapped down onto it. And, as we stated before, this bicycle rack will hold up to four bicycles.

Get your bike and put it on the cradle, straighten them out as best you can so the best contact to the bike is possible. And push them up against it. And your anti-sway cradle, right here, goes against your downtube, and that is what keeps the bike from swaying around. And just use the straps to hold everything down. And the straps can go over the bike on the top. Without the anti-sway, you can go in a diagonal action, too, if you have to.

All right, next we will cover the cradles themselves. They are pretty neat in the fact that they are constructed of a heavy-duty plastic material. You can also move them back and forth to accommodate different handlebar-and-seat combinations between the bikes. And just friction holds them in place. And also the cradles, with the anti-sway, this part right here, when you keep them together, for one, it is easy to slide the bikes over them, compared to some other ones that they stay down all the time. But you can actually move these a lot easier on the bicycle rack. And plus, when you pull down on the anti-rattle, it actually kind of acts as a ratchet to tighten it up. And also, we will show you cradle without the anti-sway. What is nice about these cradles is that there are four posts to put your strap on, so putting it on the frame of your bike where cables or whatnot might be in the way you have a few different options. And then with the anti-sway cradle you just have the one going over and of course the one for the bottom for the anti-sway. And the all last important detail about this bicycle rack is the built-in the bottle opener on the back. All right, and that covers the review of part number Y02404 from Yakima, the BigHorn Hitch Mounted 4-Bike Carrier.

Recieved my new bike rack on time and in Excellant condition. Went together so easy and looks really good and sturdy. Works like a dream. I would get this one because I think it is about middle of the road as far as price goes. It is so heavy duty and will handle four bikes with no problem. It is also very secure and does not rattle around or move once in place. I can rest asured that my bikes will be safe while driving to my destination. 10680

Just got back from a 1,200 mile round trip vacation using the 4 bike rack. We were going 65 - 75 mph over about 800 miles of interstate travel, including through a couple really big storms and did not have a problem with the bikes staying put (minimal sway even in the heaviest parts of storms). We also got bounced around pretty good on the off-road like paths we had to traverse to get to our camp, but no problems with the rack. Two of our bikes were smaller framed mountain bikes with tubular frames. It was a little difficult to get these bikes on the rack, but once we did, they locked down fine. The bigger bikes (mountain and hybrid) were a snap to load up. We have a minivan with a hitch so there wasn't much clearance, but this was not an issue with the rack and the four bikes - we never "bottomed out." Definitely recommend the rack, it was just what we needed.50613

Pro's: Excellent fit and finish. Easy assembly and fits in the hitch easily. Holds bikes securely and keeps them away from vehicle. Fold down feature works well and like it has a stop to keep it off the ground. Hitch attachment is secure and well designed. Will work great even for our 12hr cross country drives. Good value for the price. Con's: Rubber straps take some effort to use. Even adult bikes are fairly high. Vertical shaft could be shorter. Fine for me. If you have lifting/gripping limitations or are below about 5'-2" it might be a consideration. Takes a wrench to remove from hitch. Maybe none have no-tool disconnect. I didn't think about it until after the install and the van didn't fit in the garage.11874

The bike rack worked great. I was looking for a decent reasonably priced 4-bike rack that I would only use occasionally. I went with a known brand and decided on this rack, because it appeared to give me what I needed. Soon after ordering the rack we went on a 400 mile (one-way) trip and hauled 4 adult bikes. Assembly was simple and worked perfect with the trailer hitch we also ordered from etrailer. On the trip, the rack worked perfect, better than expected. The straps were adjustable and seemed quite sturdy and all four bikes were well secure the entire trip. The tilting feature is very useful as well. With the infrequent use I plan for this rack, I expect I'll have it for many years aheah. I recommend this product.61107

I was impressed on how fast etrailer sent this product to me for FREE. The rack went together very easily except for the rubber tiedowns which took some elbow grease to get on. Bought the lock too and it was a breeze to put together. This is the second time I purchased from etrailer and will definitely return for more great products.60276

Nice rack all in all. I have also used Thule racks. My issue with this rack was getting the straps on the rack, it was a bear, almost impossible. I hope they hold the bikes well as I am sure they will be a PITA to strap down again. etrailer though was A+. Customer service was impeccable. I received emails all along the way telling me the status of my order & it came a day sooner than expected. 50971

Delivery of package took 24 hours. Wow!!! Took about 30 minutes to put together only because I didn't have anyone to help. Really holds the bikes well. Very sturdy. I wish I would have bought one that folded over when not in use so I would not have to take it off as much. Unfortunately I didn't research enough ahead of time. 47430

The product is just what I expected from my research and the reviews on this site. I used this for a 1600mi trip with bikes, and had no problems with the trailer. The anti-sway that comes with this makes the mounting very stable. The release pin for moving the arm out of the way of the hatch is great, but don't plan on using it with bikes attached (way too heavy). The suspension on my SUV (forester) could only just handle the extra weight from 4 bikes back there. As it was, the front of my SUV was pointed skyward. Oncoming drivers thought I had my highbeams on. This is something others might want to consider when buying a four bike mount. My SUV with this trailer mounted is too long for my garage. I knew about this but I did not want to pay extra for the folding version. etrailer is awesome. I liked their reviews, which were very helpful in choosing the right product. And the speed with which they shipped the product was nothing short of amazing. 6* on service.19342

On the trailer hitch on your Cayenne, measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the rear of the vehicle. If that distance is less than 11-1/8 inches, the bike rack and ski carrier will fit. I have included links to the installation details and videos for both racks for

  • Can Yakima BigHorn # Y02404 be Used with a Hitch Adapter on 2011 Chevy Cruze with Class I Receiver
  • A hitch adapter like part # HTAD can certainly be used to convert your existing Class I receiver for use with your Yakima bike rack. Using the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of weight that can be suspended from the receiver) by 50 percent, from 200 lbs to 100 lbs. This means that the rack plus the bikes placed on it can weigh no more than 100 lbs. When you subtract the 30 lb weight of the Yakima BigHorn you mentioned, you have only 70 lbs available for bikes.

  • Will 4 Bikes On a Hitch Bike Rack Fit a 2012 Toyota RAV4 and Clear Rear Spare Tire on the Tailgate
  • You can carry 4 bikes on your 2012 Toyota RAV4 if you choose a Class III 2 Inch hitch like the Draw-Tite Hitch, part # 75432. The Class III hitch will have a maximum tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. Usually the way to determine if a hitch bike rack will clear your spare tire is to take a measurement on your 2012 Toyota RAV4 from the center hole of the hitch pin hole on the hitch, out to the distance required to clear the spare tire. Since you do not have a hitch already on your vehicle t

  • Fit of Yakima Big Horn 4 Bike Rack on 2007 Chrysler Town and Country
  • The Yakima Big Horn bike rack you mention, part # Y02404 provides 11-1/8 inches of clearance between the hitch pin hole and the closest portion of the rack, which is the upright. To determine if it will work on your Town and Country, you will need to measure rearward from your receiver hitch pin hole to the furthest rearward portion of the bumper, as shown in the photo I edited for you. If this distance is less than the 11-1/8 inch clearance provided by the rack, it will fit on your Town and

  • Recommendations for Carrying 4 Bikes on a 2008 Nissan Versa Hatchback
  • If you have a trailer hitch on your 2008 Nissan Versa, then it is most likely a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. The Yakima BigHorn 4 Bike Rack, # Y02404, that you referenced is for 2 inch receivers only. Another issue that you will run into is that Class I hitches only have the ability to carry up to 2 bikes. The weight of 3 or more bikes will add additional leverage on the trailer hitch that could damage the bike rack, hitch or vehicle. It is similar to adding a pipe on the end of a w

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Toyota RAV4
  • There are not a lot of bike racks that will allow you to keep the bikes loaded and fold the rack down. What I recommend is the Softride Dura, # SR26247, and use the optional extended length shank, # SR26033, which will allow you to keep the bikes loaded and tilt the rack out. Even with the extension it is unlikely that you will be able to open the rear door all of the way on your 2009 Toyota RAV4. We do have a 4-bike swinging bike rack that is more economical than the SwingDaddy. Take a look

  • Will a Yakima Big Horn fit a 2010/2011 Ford Explorer
  • To determine if the Yakima Big Horn # Y02404 will fit your Ford Explorer you will need to take one important measurement. You will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point out of the rear of your vehicle. The # Y02404 measures 11-1/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the nearest upright bar, so if the distance you measure on your vehicle is less than that this rack will work for you. • Recommended Swing-Away Bike Rack For 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser
  • The Thule Vertex Swing, part # TH9031 might be the rack you are looking for. The rack has a 4 bike capacity, is a fit for your FJ according to Thule and is priced well under the price point you mentioned. Better yet, the Vertex Swing will allow full access to the rear of your vehicle even while the bikes are in place on the rack. To carry womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans the

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation that Will Allow the Rear Door to Open on an FJ Cruiser
  • Because the rear door on an FJ Cruiser opens to the side, a tilting rack is not going to allow you to open the rear door all of the way. A swing out bike rack is the only way to go. Our most economical swinging rack is # 51953 from Surco. This rack is a little more than your budget but it is going to be the most economical option that will do what you want it to do. I have included a link to a video review for you.

  • Will the Yakima BigHorn Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2006 Toyota RAV4
  • When we installed the Curt trailer hitch # 13509 on a 2006 Toyota RAV4, see video link, we found that from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance needed to clear the spare tire was 9 inches. On the Yakima BigHorn, # Y02404, it measures 11-1/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar of the carrier, so the carrier will clear the spare tire. However, when bikes are loaded, it is possible that some part of the bike will make contact with the back

  • Four Bike Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2012 Audi Q5
  • With the variety of bikes that you have, you might be interested in a platform style bike rack. The most popular one is the XTC-4, # S64665, from Swagman. Since this rack holds the bikes at the wheels and frame it will hold most bike styles without the use of an adapter. I have included instructions and video links for you to view. For a hanging style rack from Yakima, the BigHorn 4, # Y02404 that you referenced, is the most popular Yakima 4 bike rack and would be a good, more economical choi
