This ultra-lightweight aluminum bike rack has shock-absorbing anti-sway cradles. A built-in hitch pin with a locking knob helps to eliminate rattle. The folding, arced arms hold bikes at varying heights, and the arm length gives bikes more space.
At nearly half the weight of most hitch racks, the Thule Helium Aero bike rack is the perfect choice for transporting bikes on the back of your vehicle. The Helium Aero offers complete bike security and ultimate functionality in one sleek package.
The Helium Aero weighs in at just over 18 pounds, so it's easy to transport to and from your vehicle. The aluminum construction is also resistant to corrosion, so it will look great for years to come. And the body has been sculpted for maxium functionality with a narrow upright mast that sits higher than most hitch racks for improved ground clearance, and long dual arms that provide improved bike spacing.
Thule's patented Hold Fast cradles with reinforced rubber cradle straps ensure your bikes are held safely and securely on the rack during transport. These cradles feature Road Dampening Technology (RDT) - a dual-layer system designed for use with bikes that have carbon frames. The inner layers of the cradles are made of soft "fingers" that flex to absorb large shocks and jolts from the road. The second, upper layer is composed of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), a gel-like substance that gently but firmly cups your bike frame and enables the cradles to both absorb road shock and reduce vibration for a smoother ride. The cradles also include No-Sway cages that prevent bike sway. The detachable No-Sway cages have RDT bumpers that protect your bike paint from scratches and abrasions, and they help to prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-car contact.
The Helium Aero installs easily in your vehicle's hitch with the patented AutoAttach system. You'll no longer need to find a hitch bolt and clip to hold the rack in place or a wrench to install it. Just slide the bike rack shank into your hitch and the integrated hitch pin snaps into place in your receiver. Then you simply turn the knob to tighten the Snug-Tite Stinger (shank) in your hitch, activiating the anti-rattle and removing all the play out of the hitch and bike rack connection. The Snug-Tite Stinger includes a removable adapter that lets you convert the 1-1/4" shank for in 2" hitches.
The Helium Aero has HitchSwitch levers at the top of the mast and at the base. These levers allow you to easily fold down the dual arms when not in use, and they allow you to tilt the rack forward - away from the vehicle - for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.
The Helium Aero has dual support arms that offer excellent bike support and help to reduce the need for bike adapter bars. Some bikes such as women]s, childrens's, and alternative frames may still require an adapter bar. These dual arms are arched slightly so that the bikes hang from the rack at varying heights. This helps to prevent pedals and handlebars from tangling when you are loading your bikes and during transport.
The Helium Aero lets you lock your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle for complete security. An integrated cable lock extends from the top of the mast to the front of the left support arm to lock your bikes to the rack. The adjustment knob at the base of the rack also includes a lock, so once you have tightened the rack in place you simply lock it with a key and the rack cannot be removed from your hitch. Both the cable lock and adjustment knob inclued Thule One-Key System lock cores, which can be swapped out to make all your Thule accessories keyed alike.

Today Ill be reviewing the Thule Helium Aero Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier for an Inch and a Quarter and Two Inch Hitches, part number TH9042. To start off our review, were going to show you how to switch the carrier from a two inch setup to an inch and a quarter setup. To do this, well use the included Allen key to loosen up and remove the two Allen bolts at the end of the shank. This will allow us to remove the two inch adapter from the shank of carrier. For todays demonstration purposes, our vehicle is equipped with a two inch hitch, so well replace the two inch adapter onto the shank and install and tighten down the two Allen bolts. Now well go ahead and install it on our vehicle. First well slide the shank of the carrier into the hitch receiver and lineup the built in hitch pin with the hitch pinhole. Then well simply turn the knob to engage the anti-rattle device and lock it for security.
Well now pull the grey lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out. Now that our bike rack is attached to the vehicle, well show you how to tilt it back, so we can have full access to the cargo area. Well lift up the grey lever at the bottom of the carrier unit you hear a click, which will allow us to tilt the mast down and open up the rear cargo door and you can see that we can have full access to the cargo area of our vehicle. This ultralight weight aluminum bike rack allows you to carry up to two bikes and weighs about half as much as an all steel bike rack. The dual arching arms allow for fast and easy bike loading and provide more ground clearance and space between bikes than standard dual arm racks.
The arms also fold down for storage. To fold the cradle arms down, well simply lift up on the grey lever at the top of mast until you hear a click. This click indicates that we can fold the cradle arms down parallel with the mast of the carrier. The shock absorbing holdfast cradles are attached at varying heights along the arch allowing the handlebars and pedals to hang at different heights reducing scratches and dinks when you are loading your bikes. They provide two layers of cushioning to absorb road shock and hold the bike frame at three points to prevent bike to bike contact.
The reinforced cradle straps provide maximum strength and durability and the detachable anti-sway cradles keep your bike secured while driving down the road. There is a cable lock built into the mast that allows you to lock your bikes to the rack and stores inside the mast when not in use. Both the cable and the hitch connection feature Thules one key system. They are both keyed alike and be keyed to match your other Thule products. This bike rack also comes with a blue safety strap with buckle to further stabilize your bikes to the rack. This bike rack is made in the USA, weighs 18 pounds and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
To load up our bikes, well first undo the cradle straps at the back of the carrier. Well then place our bike onto the frame cradles, bring the straps around the frame and the strap around the seat post for the anti-sway cradle. For our next bike it does have a slanted frame, so well be using Thules Bike Adapter Bar to place onto the cradles. Well then bring the cradles around the bike adapter bar, securing it to position as well as the seat post preventing the bike from swaying during transit. Well now bring out the integrated cable lock and lock it into position securing our bikes to the bike rack. Well now use the included blue strap to go around the frames of the two bikes adding some extra security during transit. Now with our bikes loaded up and secured to the carrier, well show you how it looks driving down the road. That completes todays review of the Thule Helium Aero Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier for an Inch and a Quarter and Two Inch Hitches, part number TH9042. .

The etrailer did a great job with their customer service with timely shipping that was upgraded for faster delivery. This bike rack is much lighter and fits on my car well. It was pretty easy to put together. I had a little issue with getting the anti-sway piece to fit right, but figured out the right fairly quickly. It snaps together pretty easy if you get it lined up right. The instructions weren't straight forward with that. Don't force it. You have it lined up wrong if you are. It allows me open my trunk without moving the bike rack, which is a big improvement over my last rack. The pictures show it on my car with good clearance and also show how I used the special Thule bar for fitting odd frames on the rack. This is a good buy, and they provided great customer service. This is the second time I have used this company with good success.92284

works as advertised. the only caveat is that the lower stinger part is made of steel(probably out of necessity) and the majority of the rack is aluminum. I'm happy with my choice. etrailer is one of the best companies I have ever used on the web.107290

The Thule is a really nice carrier - two features make it - one is the secure locking to the vehicle and the other is how light it is. etrailor's customer service is outstanding. One flaw in the transaction, was there was some abrasion to the finish of the product and side decals where damaged - not a big deal, but it was supposed to be new. I suspect I received a returned product.105129

Used this bike over the weekend on my wife's 2008 beetle convertable and it worked great. Easy on and off, no rattle and the bikes stayed nice and snug. Did not need to use the blue strap that comes with the rack. Best part is that we were able to access the trunk without tilting the rack back or removing the bikes.99975

Awesome customer service from this site. Came quicker than expected and everything was in order. Even got e-mails letting me know each step in the process. As for the bike rack, we haven't fully used it yet, but it went together really easy and was super easy to install on my husband's Honda Ridgeline. It will fit our needs perfectly to take our bikes to the beach this year.96642
GREAT bike rack! I couldn't ask for anything more. If your looking for this style rack, this is the one. It lightweight, easy to use, and just screams quality with the materials used. I am also very pleased with etrailers customer service. I was notified at every movement of my package, and upgraded to faster shipping free of charge! Each email had a phone number or email that I could respond to for any additional help. Thank you etrailer!! You exceeded my expectations and I am very happy with my purchase.91862

The bike rack was received well before the promised "free shipping" date, I ordered it on a Tuesday morning and received it on Thursday. Good Job. The bike rack was received and easily put together and installed on the 2" receiver hitch on my 2013 Ford Escape. Looks great, and my wife loves the way the rack is easy to use from the loading of the bike to the way the rack easily fold down without having to remove a pin...just pull the lever and down it goes. I'm a hero because of you guys....Thanks.90612

We are very pleased with our Thule bike carrier. Installation took longer than we expected, but ultimately, it works like a charm. We bought our carrier specifically for our Honda CRB and carrying beach cruisers versus mountain or street bikes. And while it was a challenge at first to get them loaded, once we figured out the right combo, it works beautifully! We do recommend some kind of lock and key for the carrier to hitch since the only thing stopping a "would be thief" from removing your carrier if they wanted to is one screw. Otherwise, we are very happy with our purchase. Light and well constructed. We took it on it's first trip to the beach and after a couple of adjustments (our first bike carrier), worked like a charm. We would highly recommend this carrier.83896

So far, so good. Very light as promised and installed easily. The only concern is that the straps seem a bit stiff, but just received this rack and got hitch this a.m. Love the locking system in 2 places. It adjusts easily with levers. I did learn something new at the U-haul hitch installation. The cap used when rack is or is not installed should be placed on the opening under and toward the front of the car to keep the dirt, sand, salt...out of the pipe, unless you want to add a decorative one on the outside when not using.78603
