Specs:
Recumbent bike riders used to struggle when searching for a hitch-mounted rack that suits their needs. All it took was a little ingenuity to create the XC-Extended rack - the perfect solution for carrying recumbent bikes. This platform-style, hitch-mounted two-bike carrier transports bikes with extra-long wheelbases - like recumbents - with all the convenience of a standard platform rack.

This rack comes with black XC wheel hoops, which provide a stable base for mounting your bicycles. The XC hoops adjust with a hand knob and slide along the arms of your rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 52" and tires up to 3-1/2" wide. The bonus with this bike carrier is that silver XTC wheel hoops are also included to give you that extra length required for carrying a recumbent. Simply swap out the XC wheel hoops with the XTCs and you will add 14" to the maximum wheelbase capacity, for a total of 66". The XTC hoops hold tires up to 2-1/2" wide and include rubber straps to secure your wheels to the rack.

When the XC cradles are installed traditionally, they measure 65" outside to outside and 37" inside to inside.

The XTC wheel hoops - when installed traditionally - measure 81" outside to outside and 51-1/2" inside to inside.

To stretch the wheelbase capacity a few more inches, mount two XTC wheel hoops at the end of each arm on the same side of the bike carrier. Doing this increases the maximum wheel base capacity to 68".

Regardless of which wheel hoops you use on the rack, the upright arm offers the same great features. This arm includes a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely in place to prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact during transport. The hooks feature soft padding to protect your bike's frame, are offset so that you can carry two bikes of the same size simultaneously, and can be locked with a 1/4" padlock. Fold down the entire upright arm by pulling a pin at the base; this enables you to reach all the gear in your vehicle's rear cargo area obstacle free.

You can release the side arms of the rack by pulling pins at the base, then fold them up for convenient storage.

The bike rack includes a threaded hitch pin and a clip that work with a built-in anti-wobble device in the shank to eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. You can replace the pin and clip with Swagman's anti-rattle lock (S64029; sold separately) to lock the bike carrier to your vehicle.

All right, today in this 2006 Mazda 5, we're going to do a test fit of the Swagman Bike Rack, part number S64650-EXT. A few things to know about this bicycle rack, that it will work with 1-1/4-inch receiver hitch and this will also work with a 2-inch receiver hitch with the provided spacer. We're using a class 1 on this vehicle. We're going to start off our test fit by installing the bike rack into the hitch and then well go ahead and tighten down the anti-rattle bolt and put the safety pin on the other side. Now, I'll go ahead and get some clearance measurements. Ground clearance will be 12 inches by the hitch and at the very end of the bike rack will be 15 inches.
We'll go ahead and unfold the bike rack and we'll get one more clearance measurement between the rack and the bumper, and that will be 6-1/4 inches. Okay, now we'll go ahead and check access to the back of the vehicle. Now, we'll go ahead and load up the bike. First thing we'll do is we'll make sure that the straps are out of the way for our wheels and then we'll also make sure that the clamps on the center post are extended all the way to the top. Okay, when we load up our bike, we'll put our wheels into the wheel loops and then we'll go ahead and tilt the bike a little bit out of the way so that we can bring the clamp up over the seat.
Then we'll go ahead and run the clamp onto the top tube. Then we'll make sure that the pin is inserted at the bottom of the post. Then we can go ahead and run the straps through the wheels. Okay, and that's what it takes to load up a bike. That will finish it for part number S64650-EXT from Swagman on our 2006 Mazda 5..

I bought this to use with the Swagman XC-Extended Platform Carrier so I can carrier my ElliptiGO around. I was wondering how I was going to do it and the hitch took care of that problem. It took longer to get the tools together to install it than it did to install it. It is a heavy good quality hitch and would recommend it to others. It fit my Toyota Yaris Hatchback like a glove. I like the fact that you can't see the hitch when installed.82285
