Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

The versatile Rola TX-103 hitch-mounted bike carrier allows you to safely and securely carry three bicycles of almost any frame size on the back of your vehicle.

Rola TX-103 bike rack anti-sway cradles

The bike rack has large, soft anti-sway cradles that hold your bikes securely in place during travel with rubber straps and that accommodate bike-frame tube sizes up to 2" wide and 3" tall. The anti-sway devices touch your bike frame at three points to keep the bikes from moving back and forth, eliminating bike-to-bike contact during travel and protecting your bikes's painted surfaces. The cradles can be repositioned along the rack arms to ensure that your bikes remain properly spaced.

Rola TX-103 bike rack arm folding leverRola TX-103 bike rack arms folded down

The TX-103 has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support. You can fold down the arms for convenient storage when the rack is not in use by removing the handle mounted on the top of the upright support arm. When the arms are lowered replace the handle to lock the arms in place in the down position.

Rola TX-103 bike rack integrated cable lock

The bike carrier includes an integrated cable lock that stores inside the upright support arm when you are not using the rack. The cable lock secures to a post at the end of one of the rack arms to lock your bikes to the carrier. The cable lock comes with two keys.

Rola TX-103 tilting bike rackRola TX-103 bike rack tilted

The TX-103 offers easy access to the rear cargo area without your having to remove the bikes from the rack. You can tilt the bike carrier away from your vehicle by removing a pin and clip at the foot of the rack. Pull the upright arm of the rack up and forward until it rests on the stops that keep it from hitting the ground. To restore the rack to the upright position, push the rack back into place and insert the pin and clip.

Rola flip shank

The bike carrier features Rola's patented flip shank, which has both a 1-1/4" square end and a 2" square end for use with either size hitch receiver. The shank rotates around a clevis pin and locks into your desired position with a simple pin and clip. This eliminates the need for a hitch adapter and makes moving the rack between vehicles very quick and easy.

Video Transcript for Rola TX-103 Hitch Bike Rack Review

Today we'll be reviewing the Rola TX-103 Three Bike Carrier for inch and a quarter and two-inch hitches, part number 59403. This bike carrier features large, soft, anti-sway cradles that hold your bike securely in place with the rubber straps. It accommodates most bike frame tube sizes, up to two inches wide and three inches tall. The cradles slide along the arms to ensure proper bike spacing and they also prevent bike-to-bike contact during travel to protect the paint and surfaces. The dual arms offer excellent bike stability and conveniently fold down for storage when the bike rack is not in use. Some bike styles may require an adapter bar, part number 64005, which is sold separately.

It has an integrated retractable cable lock that provides bike security. It stores inside the upright support arm of the bike rack when not in use, and comes with two keys. The patented flip chain rotates to fit inch and a quarter and two inch hitches and switches in seconds by removing the pin and clip. The silver powder coat finish protects against rust and corrosion. It has a weight capacity of 80 pounds and comes with a five-year limited warranty.

Now that we've gone over some features and specs of the Rola bike carrier, we'll go ahead and show you how to install it. The vehicle we are using for demonstration purposes is equipped with a class three hitch, so we will make sure that the flip chain is on the two-inch side. Now before we begin our installation, we will first need to put the anti-sway block with spring inside the hollow shank of the carrier. We'll slide the shank over the carrier into the opening of the hitch, line up our pinholes, thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pinholes, and tighten with a wrench. Now that the bick carrier is installed, we're ready to show you how to load the bike.

We'll swing out the cradle arms by pulling the silver pin at the top right-hand side of the mast, and the red lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out, we'll then put it back in place, securing the dual arms. We'll make sure that the cradle straps are undone, we'll set the bike into the frame cradles, and secure it with the straps. Now we'll go ahead and show you how it looks driving down the road. That completes today's overview of the Rola TX-103 Three Bike Carrier, part number 59403.

This rack is sweet. It looks great putting it together was a bit confusing at first but didn't take too long at all to figure out. I have it on my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and fits well it the bolt that is attached to the 2 inch hitch is extremely tight. There is no give in the attachment between the two only a little give where the silver bar attaches to the hitch pieces. It fits my bike just perfect and it rocks! Overall it has a smooth ride the frame no shake attachment is a great touch. A bang for the buck. 142160

It has been a year now and it still holds up I had three bikes on it for a 6 hour trip going over 5 mountain passes and all the bikes were still on. The hitch attachment is sturdy, however, the rack shakes alot from other attachments. It is fine to hold bikes I just wish it didnt bounce around as much when not being used.

Thanks for your follow up and reply. Depending on your vehicle configuration you may want to consider using an item like the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap # 18050. Using a strap like this can help eliminate some of the bounce you mentioned.

I've been researching all different kinds of bike racks for months! I even went into a store where they cost twice to three times as much as this one. This rack has a lot of great features, especially at it's price point. The anit-sway straps and the lock are a huge plus! I've seen very few that come with both and none at the price of this one. This rack is great! It does exactly what I'd expect out of a bike rack. On my truck which has a 2" receiver, the rack fits great! I can tighten it so there is close to no wobble. On my wife's SUV which has a 1.25" receiver it is opposite. It doesn't bolt in so it is extremely loose which is a little disappointing seeing as how I bought this one for its versatility. I haven't put my bike on it while attached to my SUV because I was worried it was going to get knocked around. I'm sure I can just buy a bolt and bolt it on, but I have yet to try it. I will be using my truck mainly to transport bikes, so overall I'm pretty pleased. All-in-all and excellent bike rack. 33773

I read the product description and other review, it sounded this was a great product, well, it is not, look for something else. First, the 2" shank fits very loosely on a 2" hitch. The whole time I was driving, the rack kept swinging left to right none stop. I got worried and got off the highway and put the bikes in the trunk. Second, you really cannot put a womens mountain bike on this rack even with the bar as suggested in the QA section. You will not be able to slide the bike over the rack as the bar will be too close the bike frame at the steering side and you are going to have a problem. So save yourself the hastle and get something better. 48350

I received the bicycle rack yesterday and assembly was a breeze! The rack was built very sturdy. I had a new hitch installed on our new car last week to be ready to go cycling. As I am pleased with the rack, the only con was that it wobbles left to right as driving. I have a 1 1/4" hitch and for security all there is, is a pin and a cotter pin which would make it very easily to remove by others, I installed a combination lock to replace the cotter pin, Unfortunately it still wobbles. 238179

I am ecstatic with this purchase. The bike rack is sturdy and attractive and is easy to install. The rotating tongue for proper fit for your hitch is genius. The rubber clips hold the bike tight on the rack. I do use a fe extra velcro straps to keep my girls bike from moving a lot during transport. I have to use a rod that attaches to my handle bars and under my seat since my bike is a girl's bike. The video on this site shows that part. Overall, great product. 213944

Awesome product at a great price!!! etrailer is awesome, have great products, quick shipping & provide real time status updates on your shipment. The bike rack required minimal assembly and was on my truck within 15 minutes. Holds the 3 bikes very easy. My only disappointment is that it can not hold a small frame womans mountain bike as that is what my wife has. Other than that it's great, the anti sway works great & the bikes don't rub each other. 41064

The rack came one day sooner than promised and seems to do everything as advertised. I like the way bike frames can be stabilized against sway, and I like the built-in cable locking system. I am less than fully pleased with the amount of play between the bike rack and my 1 1/4" hitch. If you know of a way I can improve the fit, please let me know. Otherwise I think I will be very happy with this product. 45290

I put the bike rack together and all went well until I went to install my wife bike which is a girls . Need less to say it would not work without the attachment that is required. If I had known up front I could have save some time and money. When I first started looking for bike racks there isn't a clear explanation that girls bike require the addition cross bar. However I have it ordered and on way. 148052

First impression of this are high. The only thing I do not like is there is a bit of side to side sway when you're using the 1 1/4 male end. And it's just due to the nature of the design of this rack. But other than that it's pretty spot on. The fold away is nice and smooth and easy to use. The bikes load and unload easily. For the price this is about the best rack on the market in my opinion. 243596

Receivd the rack and it was mostly assembled. Rack feels sturdy. I have not used it with bikes as of yet. It does fit in the hitch receiver quite loosely and it is not a tight fit from the main mast to the hitch receiver. I tightened the bolt down fairly tight but did not want to overtighten the silicone washers for fear of breaking them. Overall, I am very pleased with this product. 12738

Bike rack is very sturdy ( heavier than I thought ) And the built in lock system is helpful. Using the trailer hitch mount makes it easy to remove also My only criticism is the installation directions were poorly written and pictures not helpful. I'm still uncertain about one "extra" part I'm not sure what to do with. Overall, it's a nice rack to use 264536

I tried this product this past weekend with my 3 bikes. Travel to Santa Barbara, Ca. from Highland, Ca. The trip was 300 miles round trip. The rack was smooth, secure, durable, quiet and it felt safe. I could not tell it was attached to the vehicle. We enjoyed the bike ride with family. Can't wait to travel up north. Great product. 230885

The bike rack seems sturdy and good quality. I haven't actually used it yet. My only complaint is that the instructions were not very good. This was my first assembly, and it was annoying that the instructions didn't even label the different parts. The result was that it took me much longer to assemble than necessary. 217290

Item arrived in excellent shape, well secured in the box. The only concern is that the instructions (from the manufacturer) did not explain how the bike lock was suppose to work. It definitely will work for my intended purpose, which is to secure my bikes on the dingy vehicle being towed by the RV. 175545

The basic rack here is good: the bikes go on easily, the clamps are secure, and the rack stays tight. BUT The integrated cable lock is WORTHLESS. I have to use a separate lock because this one, when it decides to attach properly, may be removed with a single Phillips-head screwdriver. 50175

My new Rola TX-103 bike carrier arrived within 3 days of placing order. Arrived in great condition. Set up was easy. Nice carrier for the money. Customer service was great, emailed tracking data to my inbox. If you have a 1 1/4 receiver this is the one to buy. Way to go etrailer. 8283

We are very happy with this product. Once we got it set on the hitch (needed some assistance from a bike shop), the bikes stayed on comfortably--with minimal sway--for a six hour trip. It shipped very quickly too, which was much appreciated before the holiday weekend. 98084

The hitch, wiring harness and bike carrier look exactly as expected. My only complaint was that somehow my order was delayed due to a back-order without informing me. However, when I called they figured it out quickly, made a switch in product and got it out. 265343

The rack is very good quality and workmanship. It's easy to load a bike and figure out how all the straps connect. It tilts enough for me to open the hatch on my volvo wagon. My hitch is 1'1/4' and I find that the rack does wobble a bit side to side. 51609

Very easy install, although some of the tolerances were a bit too tight, particularly on the tilt mechanism (couldn't easily get the pin through). I assume over time this will work itself out. Nice design otherwise. 175640

For a hitch mounted bike rack, I would recommend the Rola TX-103 3 Bike Carrier, part # 59403. This bike rack will carry 3 bicycles and has a tilting feature that allows you to...

  • Will Thule Hatch Mounted Bike Rack # TH910XT Fit a 2008 Honda Odyssey
  • There are not any Trunk/Hatch mount bike racks available for the Odyssey. The hatch design is not strong enough to hold the weight of the rack and bikes where it belongs. The simplest, strongest and safest option would be to install a hitch on the vehicle and use a hitch mounted bike rack. I would recommend using part # 75270. This is the best option because the 2 inch opening will allow the greatest selection of bike racks and other hitch accessories like a cargo carrier. As far as...

  • Bike Rack Recommendations for Use With a Trek Triathlon Tri Bike Frame
  • I did some research on your trek triathlon tri bike and the Swagman XP 3 Bike Rack, # S64950, will work as long as the horizontal tube on your bike is not wider than 1-3/4 inches and taller than 1-3/4 inches. If the horizontal tube on your bike is wider or taller than those measurements, then you will still be able to use this bike rack, but you will need the Swagman Easy-Out Adapter, # 64005, for womens bikes and alternative bike frames. One of our most popular bike racks is the Rola...

  • The adapter bar we recommend for the Rola TX-103 3 Bike Carrier, # 59403, is the Swagman Easy-Out Adapter Bar, # 64005. This adapter bar is self retracting and fits in the cradles of the Rola bike rack. The ends of this adapter bar are slightly smaller than the ends on the Thule adapter bars. I shot a video for you to check out showing the Swagman adapter bar on the Rola bike rack.

  • Trailer Hitch and Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2009 Lexus RX350
  • There are ways to carry bikes with your vehicle, but according to Thule and Yakima, there are no trunk mount bike rack options that will fit a 2009 Lexus RX350. I recommend installing a trailer hitch and using a hitch mounted bike rack. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer hitch, # 75153. This is a Class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver. This Class and size hitch will afford you many bike rack options. I have included a link to the installation instructions...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2002 Honda CR-V for Carrying 3 Bikes
  • I assume the Draw-Tite Sportframe trailer hitch that you are referencing is part # 24772, which is the Class I hitch by Draw-Tite for the 2002 Honda CR-V. If this is the case, then this trailer hitch will work with any hitch mounted bike rack that was designed to fit a Class I trailer hitch with a 1-1/4 inch shank. We have two hitch mounted 3-bike racks with a rotating shank, the Rola TX-103 part # 59403 and the Tow Ready 3-Bike Rack part # 63123. Neither of these bike racks are compatible...

I have incldued links to the instructions for you to view. Both of these hitches are Class III hitches with 2 inch receivers. To use a hitch mounted bike rack, you would first need to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 75144. This is a Class III 2 inch hitch, and is compatible with a wide range of hitch bike racks. Most adult bikes will weigh in at 25 to 35 pounds so it will depend on the model of the bikes you wish to carry, if the rack would be compatible. Basically, it wedges itself between the bike rack shank and the receiver opening to take out the play between the two. If you are going to use a strap you can use # 18050. Using just one would be best because it could pull the rack to one side and hold it there.

The other issue with fitment is clearance of the spare tire on your 2002 Toyota Rav4. Part # 59403, measures 10-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar. With either receiver size, the bike rack will offer 10 plus inches between the hitch pin hole and the closest upright portion of the rack, so it will work perfectly for you. These holes must be used for installation so there isn't any flexibility when it comes to mounting location for the hitch. This is the preferred method as there would be no contact with any painted surfaces of your vehicle and it would open you up to other options in the future like towing or a cargo carrier.
