The NV is a platform-style bike rack that grasps your bike at the wheels instead of the frame, eliminating stress on the frame. Kuat. It is the two founders of the companys last names put together, Kushmeter and Atkinson. Kuat was started by two good friends of mine, the owned a construction company together. They were also avid cyclists, when they were out riding they decided they were not happy with the bike racks that they were using, and they thought, hey no one is making a bike rack out of aluminum so they went down in the garage and started welding stuff together. :29
We finally got something we thought would be a great fit for the market and launched it in February of 2008. Since then, we have launched two more products. What determines if we want to launch it or not is if we think it is better than anything else out there, if it is something new that no one else is done. We decided to make ours completely different, starting with the material, then the paint, and then how everything looks, how it works. Its designed by people who use the product. :54
The key thing we started off with was using aluminum. we wanted it to be light and easy to use. The other thing that we really addressed that had been let go was style. We wanted all our stuff to look good. We are based in Springfield, Missouri, but we do have dealers across the country. We have been recently working onto spreading into Canada as well, picking up some dealers and distributors there. We have also been talking to people in other countries that would like to import our stuff ans spread and world wide foot print. We love all cyclists, but a lot of our products appeal to mountain bikers with the trail dock, you have the ability to repair, there tends to be more repairs on mountain bikes than road bikes. But the lightweight and easy use makes it appeal to everyone. We do real world testing and then we have engineers that do finite analysis testing, which is testing things you cant simulate in a short period of time, in real life. Great for lift gate vehicles I bought this a few months ago. There is some minor assembly required that is better handled by two people, but manageable by one. I have the 1-1/4 version to fit a Toyota Matrix. Works great, sturdy, fast to mount and secure the bikes. The built in security cable could be a tad longer. The hitch wedge/anti rattle is genius. I wish all square hitch accessories had this feature! The work stand is a big plus for the times you need to do repairs either on the road or in the driveway. It's way better than having to carry one or having nothing at all.
I don't recommend this for swing door vehicles like my FJ Cruiser. The rack sits too high to open the rear door in any position. To lower the rack mount precludes the advantage of the high ground clearance of the vehicle.
For lift gate vehicles this should work without major problems. Overall I am very satisfied 3326
Product was delivered very quickly and is exactly as the online description says. Rack was relatively easy to put together - even for one person -- needed a little creativity at times, but putting the rack together out of the box and installing it into the hitch is absolutely manageable (and I'm a woman!). Extremely solid rack -- well made. First use was over a 300 kilometer drive with rack in hitch and not a sound or movement. The drive included some bumpy roads and gravel sections as well. Looks great on the back of the vehicle (a 2009 Infiniti FX35 AWD) -- even had someone ask about it at the gas station! Great rack -- exactly what I was looking for! 79073
I really like most features of the Kuat NV rack. Some of the reviews I read indicated that in the past two different keys were supplied for the bike lock and the hitch lock. One key for both on my unit. The bike stand feature is nice in a pinch, but could be better designed with a more robust positioning clamp to hold the post in position and better bike clamp. The retaining arms that hold bikes in place are flimsy compared to racks from Saris and Thule. Fold down feature allows me to open door on Toyota RAV4 with hitch installed.78953
Product quality and functionality was exactly as described. It was exactly what I was looking for. It fits perfectly on my 2012 Toyoto Sienna but I really want it for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Because of the spare tire on the back it would be better if the pin hole in the receiver was about 1/4 " longer but by depressing against the tire I was able to make it work. Because the Jeep Wranger has a back door that swings open (not up) the door won't clear to open. I have ordered a 8" bike rack extender and hope to elimate this problem. When it arrives and works as I hope, I will send pictures of how it looks and functions. Until then it works fine I just can't open the rear door on the Jeep Wrangler. This is the highest quality bike rack I have ever seen. It is very easy and quick to use. It is worth the higher expense. I like to look at it as an investment... And we'll worth it. the con is my FJ Cruiser and how it works with this rack. the 45degree tilt that is supposed to clear the way for the door doesn't work with the large FJ Cruiser wheel and tire on the back.

So far so good. I haven't had the rack for too long but it was easy to assemble and it feels solid. I have an '09 Tacoma and when the rack is folded down the Tailgate can open completely. And with 2 bikes loaded you can tilt the rack and still drop the tailgate completely. I love it!!! And as far as etrailers goes, I will definitely use them again for future purchases. No issues with delivery, excellent customer service. The product is a little expensive but I think that it is worth it. It is my second bike carrier and easily holds both my mountain bike with 29" wheels and my wife's with 26" wheels. No part of the bikes touch the back of my pickup truck with a cap on it or my Nissan Murano. One feature that I really appreciate is that I can now tilt the bike rack back with the bikes mounted and open the rear tailgate on both vehicles giving me much easier access to these areas. Even with both bikes mounted its is not hard to lift it back into position and lock the rack back in place after I've lowered it. It seems like a substantial piece of equipment. I just received the bike rack, assembled and put it on the hitch with bikes for the first time. It appears to be as good as all of the reviews stated. I drive a Mercedes ML which wasn't a vehicle reviewed on the etrailer site, but the clearance is great. No issues accessing the rear of the vehicle with the rack tilted down. For your 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, the concern is the clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point the spare tire sticks out. Other than the Kuat, N101 with 7-1/16 inches of clearance in the up position, one of the platform bike racks that offers the most distance is the Yakima StickUp 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Rack with Wheel Mount Cradles, # Y02420. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the first bike tray is 13 inches.

The Kuat NV bike rack # N101 should fit your Hummer H3, but you will want to take measure to make sure you will have enough clearance for it to fit around the spare tire. I spoke with my contact at Kuat and he stated that the NV Trailer Hitch Mounted Bike Rack, # N101, will accept bikes with a maximum wheel base of 48 inches. I did a little research and found some pictures of a Giant Revive DX. The top frame bar is at a slight angle but since this rack holds the bike at the wheels, it will not be a factor. In order to determine if this Kuat NV-2, part # N101, will work on your 2011 Audi Q5 without modification, you will need to take one simple measurement on your vehicle.
You will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin on your Q5 out to the furthest point out on your bumper. If that measurement is less than 7 inche,s then you should have no problem using the # N101 bike rack.

I would recommend the Yakima SpareTime, part # Y02598, which Yakima has confirmed will fit your husbands Jeep. This carrier accommodates 2 bicycles, and will work with spare tires up to 12-1/2 inches thick. If your vehicle has a 1-1/4 inch hitch I would recommend the Kuat Hitch Bike Rack, part # N102. It is the same bike rack but is designed to fit on a 1-1/4 inch Class I or Class II hitch.

To determine which bike rack would fit the best on your 2009 Toyota Van you will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin on your hitch out to the furthest point out on the rear of your vehicle. The Kuat Rack # N101 has a distance of 9-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the nearest upright portion of the rack, whereas the Thule T2 Bike Rack # TH916XTR has a distance of 7-7/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the nearest part of the pivoting bracket.

The Kuat # N101Hitch Bike Rack will easily accommodate a bike with a wheel diameter of 29 inches, overall diameter of about 32 inches, allowing for a 1-1/2 inch tall tire on the wheel. If you have a bike with custom 32 inch diameter wheels we are not sure that the bike rack will accommodate the bike.

I believe I have a solution for you that will give you access to the rear of your 2003 Honda Odyssey and 2009 Honda CR-V. However, I cannot say for certain if the Kuat NV or the Thule T2 would work for you since it would be very difficult to know for sure with all of the unknown variables.

According to our friends at Kuat, the NV, as well as the rest of their racks are neither designed nor recommended for use behind a travel trailer.
Bike racks mounted at the rear of any travel trailer are subjected to additional shaking and jarring forces, due to the extended distance from the rear axle to the rear bumper, and because travel trailers will have a stiffer suspension than a passenger vehicle.

Kuat does make a very nice platform bike rack in the NV, # N101. This is a higher end rack constructed of aluminum so it is relatively light weight at about 50 pounds and corrosion resistant. You can also tilt the rack down with bikes loaded which may allow you to open the rear hatch on your 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee more if not all of the way. First, the NV, # N101, is going to be very similar to the Sherpa in that with the bikes installed and the rack tilted down or not you will not be able to open the rear hatch.
You will want to check the owners manual of your 2012 Honda CR-V because a lot of times the hitch tongue weight capacity far exceeds what the vehicles tongue weight capacity is and you always need to go by the lower of the 2 ratings.

On hitches that we have installed on your generation Toyota Tundra we have found that from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to clear the back of the truck is approximately 4 inches. Take this measurement on your truck to determine the distance required. If you will have the tail gate down then measure to the end of the tail gate.

The Kuat N101 is designed with a tilt-down feature to enable rear door access even with bikes loaded on the rack. However, we have not performed a test fit of this particular bike carrier on an X5, so I cannot state with absolute certainty that you will still be able to open your entire rear hatch. You absolutely will be able to open your small rear tailgate with the carrier in the tilted-down position.

The unusual design and dimensions of the ElliptiGO 8C make it an unsuitable fit for most standard bike racks because of the absence of a typical top frame tube, the very long wheelbase, and the width of the bike.

You should be able to lower the tailgate of your Ford F-150 while having the Kuat NV # N101 attached.
