Today we're going to be taking a look at part number RP45018, this is the Titan hitch box extension for 2 and a half inch trailer hitches. Now this portion here is going to be the portion that slides into the receiver tube of your hitch, and then this portion up here is going to be where you install your hitch inaudible 00:00:16 accessory, at the end of the extension. This is going to convert down to a 2 inch by 2 inch opening, and so it is designed to fit into a 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch and then it's going to adapt or convert down to a 2 inch by 2 inch. This is designed to extend the receiver opening 41 inches or 48 inches away from the truck, those measurements are going to be taken from center of hitch pinhole to center of hitch pinhole. This is going to be ideal for slide out campers with extended overhangs. The overall unit's going to be made from a steel construction with a nice black powder coated finish on it to help prevent and keep it protected from corrosion and any rust. This portion right here is going to be the included hitch cover. Simply just pops out, it's going to open up to the two inch by two inch receiver opening, it's also got this chrome plastic piece that goes around that collar, that can be removed as well, that simply just snaps on and off. Now all the pinholes on this system are going to measure 5 eighths of an inch.

If you need a hitch pin and clip for a 2 and a half inch trailer hitches you can find them on our website with part number 74149, that would be for these pinholes back here, securing the inside of your 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch trailer hitch receiver. If you would like the trailer hitch receiver lock, you can find that one our website, sold separately, part number 5201. Now here up front towards the opening where we would attach our accessory, at the 2 inch by 2 inch opening, you're going to have some safety chain loops. These are going to be designed to attach safety chains from your trailer onto the hitch receiver here. You're also going to have this bracket, this is for attaching your electrical outlet. Then you're going to have these chain loops, because it is required for you to have safety chains running from your tow vehicle to these connections, so that's what these are for here.

Now these are going to give us a diameter opening size of about 2 and 1 eighth of an inch. These loops are going to measure about 2 inches by 1 inch and a quarter. An important note to mention is that this product may not work on some OEM class 5 hitches with rounded edges, so definitely keep that in mind. Now the hitch box extension comes complete at 48 inches, and is designed to be cut down to 41 inches depending on your application. Again those measurements are simply just taken from center of hitch pinhole to center of hitch pinhole, so right there we have the 41 inch measurement, and then back here, extending it center on center, we have the 48 inch measurement. The capacities of this adapter of extender are labelled right there at the back of the shank, nice big sticker that points out all the capacities. Weight carrying capacity is 5000 pounds with the 41 inch extension, 500 pound ton weight, with the use of weight distribution that would increase to 7500 pounds and the ton weight would increase to 750 pounds. With the 48 inch extension the weight carrying load is 4000 pounds with a 400 pound ton weight.

When using weight distribution that increases to 6000 pounds of trailer max. weight, and 600 pounds of ton weight. That's going to do it for today's look at part number RP45018, this is the Titan hitch box extension for 2 and a half inch trailer hitches. .

Reese did a very good job designing the 48" hitch extension. It is more substantial than I expected and it's load capacities are probably understated with good reserve margin for safety. Etrailer's service was exellent in all respects inclusive of product description, ease of ordering, exellent pricing, even better shipping and responsiveness, and perhaps best of all outstanding follow-up. I will be a repeat customer and highly recomend this company as a goto company for all your trailer needs. They obviously care about providing first class service and products. 33612

Very Heavy Duty. This suits my application. I wanted to be able tow my boat or trailer with my Slide in Camper. I had to do some modification to get it to fit my Ford factory installed class V hitch (needed to grind off the powder coating). Other than that, it works well. 147829

  • Use of Hitch Extension to Tow a Trailer on 2011 Ford F-350 Dually Crew Cab With a Slide-In Camper
  • I have two hitch box extensions for the 2-1/2 inch hitch on your 2011 Ford F-350 Dually Crew Cab, but they both will reduce the hitch receiver size down to 2 inches. These extensions are specifically designed for your slide-in camper with the extended overhang. The first extension is the Titan Hitch Box Extension and Reducer, part # RP45292. This extension will only extend your hitch out 24 to 34 inches, so this will not work for your application that will need 36 inches. The second...

  • Difference Between Weight Carrying and Weight Distribution Ratings on a Titan Hitch Extender
  • The Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RP45018, has two different ratings because if towed with a weight distribution system (see link) you will be able to tow higher capacities. If the extension is used as a weight carrying hitch, no weight distribution system, then the capacity is not as high. The weight distribution system distributes the weight from the hitch to the vehicle and trailers axles to allow for improved towing performance. I attached an FAQ...

  • How is the Reese Titan Hitch Box Extension Supported and Does it Require Stabilization Chains
  • The trailer hitch on the truck is what supports the extension. The extension is designed to fit in a 2-1/2 inch receiver (measuring on the inside) and the receiver part of the extension has a 2 inch receiver opening. The only thing you need for the extension is a properly sized hitch pin like # 74149. For lateral, back and forth movement of the extension, it is normal to see some play. Reese does not make any lateral stabilization chains for the Titan extensions. You will need to...

  • Actual Length of Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 Inch Receivers Part # RP45018
  • The 48 inch maximum length mentioned in the product description represents the distance from the furthest hitch pin hole on the vehicle side of the extender and the hitch pin hole on the other end. The distance from the hitch pin hole where the extension would attach to the receiver on your truck to the front face of the receiver on the extension is 50 inches. I have edited a photo showing what the 48 inch measurement represents.

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for a Ford Super Duty Hauling a Camper and Flat Towing a Honda CR-V
  • The closest hitch extension that we carry for your setup is the Titan Hitch Extender, # RP45018, that you referenced. This hitch extension was designed to work with 2-1/2 inch x 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receivers only and reduces down to a 2 inch receiver for your Blue Ox tow bar. You will want to measure the height and width of your trailer hitch receiver opening to ensure that you can use this extension with your hitch. When using this hitch to flat tow your Honda CR-V, you will want...

  • Tongue Weight Capacity of Titan Hitch Box Extender # RP45018 on a 2002 Ford F-350 Super Duty
  • The tongue weight capacity of the Titan Hitch Box Extension, # RP45018, is going to be 10 percent of the weight carrying rating or weight distribution rating of the extension. In this case, if the extension is used at the 41 inch extension you the limit is 500 lbs WC (750 with WD). If used at the 48 inch extension the limit would be 400 lbs WC (600 with WD). You will need to weigh your trailer tongue weights, fully loaded and ready to tow. If the tongue weights exceed the capacity...

  • Trailer Hitch Extension to Tow a Boat Trailer with a GMC Sierra 2500 with a Lance Camper
  • I take it that your Lance camper overhangs the truck bed so you need an extension of some kind. There are a couple of possible solutions. Many extensions will reduce the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch by 50 percent. However if you were to use a long ball mount, the capacity is not nearly as affected. A ball mount like # 80232 measures 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. I have linked a video review for you. I have also linked all...

  • Cutting the back of the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RP45018, off is not a concern as long as you leave at least 6 inches behind the center of the hitch pin hole, and you do not excessively heat the extension when cutting it off. Any other modification like drilling, grinding or cutting should be avoided.

If you think that the receiver is getting worn out, I recommend measuring the inner opening width and height to see if it is still at 2-1/2 inches. Also check the accessories you are using. They should be slightly smaller so they can fit in the receiver easily. There will always be some play. The longer the accessory, the more it will appear to move. I attached installation instructions for this product also. In order to determine how much of an extension you would need to clear your 2001 Lance 1121 camper you will need to take one measurement. • Why the Weight Carrying Rating is Higher on Longer Titan Hitch Extender # RP45018 than Short One
  • I ran this by my contact at Reese. This is a little tricky but I can explain. If you look at the pictures I have included for each Titan Hitch Box Extension (# RP45018 and # RP45292) you will notice that the distance between the 2 hitch pin holes is different by 3 inches. On the longer extension the distance between the furthest out hole and the end of the receiver is longer which allows it to carry more weight at 41 inches. The 3 inch difference is the key factor.

  • Trailer Hitch Extension for 2009 GMC Sierra with 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Towing a Boat with In-bed Camper
  • First, the Ford 2-1/2 inch hitch has be known to have some compatibility issues with some accessories. The problem is that the hitch receiver has more rounded corners than a lot of accessories that have more square corners. In the event you run into this issue, what you can do is gently and carefully remove some of the powder coating around the accessory shank until it fits. Do not remove any metal. This will weaken the accessory. The extension length you need is going to be based...
