Tow Ready Bumper Guard Review

Video Transcript for Tow Ready Bumper Guard Review

Today we are going to show you a couple of different bumper guards. We are going to show you part numbers 80400, and these are both from Tow Ready, and this is the steel one with the hammered finish, and we also are going to show you part number 80470, also from Tow Ready, and that is the diamond-plate, aluminum one that you see here. All you need the item to do is fit between your ball mount and the ball itself. The idea behind these is that, if you have got your ball mount in the rise position, and yet the ball situated in front of the license plate, this will actually protect it from getting damaged. OK, what we will do next is go ahead and install one of these on a typical ball mount and give you a good idea of how it works and how it looks.

All right, we will pre-assemble on this ball mount right here. This is a ball mount in its rise position. What simply happens is put that on top, put the ball on there. Now that we have it loosely installed, we will go ahead and put the ball mount in the receiver and then tighten everything up. When we go ahead and tighten down the ball here, it is a good idea to have it actually offset to the side like we have here. It will give you a little bit better leverage when you tighten everything down. All right, right before it starts getting really tight, go ahead and make sure the bumper guard is straight. All right, as you can see here, your bumper is well protected when you back up to your trailer. All right, and there you have it for part number 80400, as shown, the bumper guard with the hammered finish, and 80470, the diamond-plate trailer hitch bumper guard.

Saved my as*! I hooked-up the camper the other morning and started off to the lake. The first road I crossed that had a hump I hear and feel the camper come off the receiver ball and the tongue hit the ground. I wasn't going fast and no-one was behind me so I started to come to a stop. Well the camper wasn't slowing down at the same rate and it smashed into the hitch several times. When both TV (Tow Vehicle) and camper came to a stop, I got out to see what damage had been done. I guess I have not fully secured the receiver ball to the tongue and failed to test the connection. That's what happens when you rush. As luck would have it, I had just purchased and installed last week, a Hitch Bumper Guard from etrailer.com and I think that saved the TV's bumper. The guard was scratched and turned a bit, but it did it's job of protecting the TV's ass. The only other damage I could find was one of the quick-connects on the safety chains was bent and will have to be replaced. Thanks eTrailer.com, you saved my as*!330

  • What Color Ball Trailer Hitch Bumper Guards Do You Carry
  • We offer the bumper guards in black or silver diamond plate, we do not have one in flat chrome. The guard is attached by sandwiching it between the ballmount (or bumper) and the ball. Once the ball is tightened on the guard becomes tightened into place as well. It works with 3/4 inch and 1 inch shank diameter balls. Once in position it protects your vehicle by not allowing the trailer to come into contact with the vehicle. As you are backing up the vehicle trying to get the trailer coupler close

  • How to Determine Factory Trailer Hitch Class on a 1999 Ford Expedition
  • The 1999 Ford Expedition most likely has a class III rated towing package from the factory. In order to determine which class you have, you can check the trailer hitch for capacity information. There is usually a sticker on the hitch that will list trailer weight and tongue weight capacities. If it reads 3500 pounds or more and the hitch has a 2 inch receiver opening, you have a class III trailer hitch. You also may be able to find the information in the owners manual for the vehicle or you
