Video Transcript for Brophy Hitch Accessories HT5R Review

Today we'll be taking a look at part number HT5R. This is the Brophy Hitch Adapter, converting an 1-1/4" hitch to a 2" trailer hitch receiver. It does provide a 5" rise. Our rise is measured from the top of the 1-1/4" shank to the inside top edge of the 2" by 2" receiver opening. This is going to help convert our 1-1/4" hitch or class 1 and 2 receiver to a 2" receiver. Just keep in mind it's not to be used for towing or with snow plows.

It also has a really nice powder coated black finish that's going to help withstand up against rust and corrosion. Our extension is 7", and that's measuring from the center of one pin hole to the center of the other. And this raises 5-1/2", and that's measured from the bottom of the 1-1/4" shank to the center of our hitch pin hole and the 2" by 2" opening. The 1-1/4" shank is a solid shank, and the 2" by 2" receiver tube is completely hollow. This is going to provide a maximum towing weight of 300 pounds, and it's made in the USA. You just want to keep in mind the capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50% with use of an adapter. This part here, the 1-1/4" part, is going to be the section that slides into your hitch.

Line up your pin hole and install your 1/2" pin and clip. That's not included, but can be found on our website with part number PC2. And then to load your accessory, you would slide it into the 2" by 2" opening, line up your pin hole, and install your 5/8" pin and clip. That's also not included, and can be found on our website with part number PC3. Now to go over a few more measurements. We have an overall length of about 10-3/4", and to make sure that you have enough clearance between the rear of your vehicle and the back of this 2" by 2" receiver opening, I'm going to measure from the center of the pin hole to the back of this upright bar, and we have a measurement of 3-1/2".

The measurement from the center of the pin hole to the beginning of this weld is right at 2-1/4". The amount of space we have from the back of our 1-1/4"shank to the center of our pin hole is 1-1/2. That's going to complete today's review of part number HT5R. This is the Brophy Hitch Adapter, converting an 1-1/4" hitch to a 2" trailer hitch receiver. .

Thank you for the personal touch on the order. Not many company's do this. This is a good product and a good price. My car sits low and we needed to raise the carrier up. Looks like this will work out. 111921

The carrier is still working out great for me. I still cant leave the house alone. I have even recommend this to a friend and he also bought one.Thank you again for a good product.

Finally! I could not use the hitch on my Kia as it is too low to the ground. Which I did not realize until it was put on by U haul. I kept looking and looking for a hitch adapter with a rise and here it is. It needs to be an inch longer though (at the bottom) because of the bumper. But that is fixable. I'll have the garage shave a bit out of the bumper so I can get the holes lined up. They don't line up by just an 8th of an inch. Then I can use a carrier box without it scraping on the roads. 176002

Perfect for my 2015 honda fit It helped a lot by adding that 5 inch rise No more scraping on the driveways or dips. I highly recommend to anyone that owns or is planning to buy a cargo hitch basket those who own a smaller car. 154532

High quality construction and finish. Two minor issues: (1) the security-pin hole in the 1-1/4" end did not line up with the hole in the Draw-Tite hitch - too some "modification" to make that work; (2) the 2" receiver does not have a backing plat or "stop" in it, so you need to be very careful when sliding a hitch, bike rack, etc. in - so that you don't harm your vehicle. 182421

The conversion piece is exactly what I needed. The hitch on my car is 1 1/2 " (even tho' the dealer promised me a 2" hitch). My carrier has a 2" opening. A standard converter left it too close to the ground when my mobility scooter was loaded. This piece was easy to install and a test run today proved it to be a very wise purchase. 199256

This item is not compatible with the bumper on newer models of Nissan Versas. The upright portion rubs the bumper and presses into the bumper when there is a load on. It may crack the bumper. It needs to extend about 1 inch further horizontally, to work with the Nissan bumpers. 105278

Package arrived as stated with no holes or damage. Installation went well per instructions I did have to watch video to find out how to install bolts in frame. There was no figrue 5 in instructions. Bolts in frame would not fit in frame hole ended up grinding flats on two sides. 96347

After I ground down the weld 1/4 inch it fit into the 1 1/4 inch hitch. Before grinding the holes did not line up by 1/4 inch. Because I had to work on it before it would work is the reason this did not receive an excellent rating. Love the 5 inch rise. 200799

I needed the riser to get my bike rack higher off the ground. I wish there was a larger rise and extended longer. I need to add an extension to get the riser passed the bumper 129109

Do you have a question about this Hitch Accessory?

  • Looking for a Hitch Riser that Fits a 2 Inch x 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • The closest adapter that we have to your needs is the MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender, # MT70070. This adapter fits a 2 inch x 2 inch trailer hitch receiver and it provides a 2 inch x 2 inch receiver with a rise of 6-1/4 inches. Please note, only the bottom receiver on this adapter can be used for towing. The upper receiver should only be used for hitch mounted accessories such as bike racks or cargo carriers. Also, it is important to note that using a hitch extender will reduce the hitch's...

According to Brophy, the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Adapter # HT5R the weight capacity of the adapter will exceed the weight capacity of the 1-1/4 inch hitch. Therefore the capacity of the hitch will be the limiting factor. For example if the hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds then the hitch adapter...
