Bearing Buddy Operation

Replace your existing grease cap with a Bearing Buddy to ensure a safe, easy way to monitor and control the level of grease in your axle hub. To adjust the amount of grease in the hub, use a grease gun to add more through the appropriate fitting. Adding grease moves the Bearing Buddy spring-loaded piston outward 1/8".

The O-ring inside the barrel of the Bearing Buddy maintains a seal from the outside. The interior of the Bearing Buddy is pressurized, preventing water from entering the barrel and diluting the grease.

An automatic pressure-relief feature is built into the Bearing Buddy. When the device is full, grease will seep around the edges of the piston and into the barrel. This prevents overfilling that can damage the inner seal.

You can manually check the grease level in your Bearing Buddy by pressing on the edge of the piston. If you can rock or move the piston, the hub is properly filled.

Video Transcript for Bearing Buddy Grease Caps BB1810 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the chrome plated bearing buddy bearing protectors for 1.810 hub bore and this part is for a quantity of two. Now this bearing buddy design, it's a very easy way to protect your bearings by keeping water out, ensuring that enough grease is in the hub. This part will replace the grease cap on the end of your axle hub. You just tap this in place of the grease cap. Now this will prevent wheel bearing failure because it will keep water and dirt out of your hubs and bearings. It does allow boat trailer wheels to be completely submerged and eliminates bearing repacking. Now this will provide this easily accessible grease Zerk fitting right here on the end so you attach your grease gun to that, makes adding grease to the bearing very quick and simple.

Now this piston right in here, this will maintain a slight controlled pressure, about 3 PSI with that spring loaded piston and that prevents water from entering the hub. You can press on the edge of the piston for quick, reliable lubricant level check. If you can rock the piston hub it is properly filled. Now this does prevent overfilling and rear seal damage with the automatic pressure relief feature it offers. The grease will seep around the piston edges and into the barrel when full. Now this is constructed of stainless steel internal parts and has a nice tripled plated steel barrel.

Because of that it ensures long lasting fit and works a lot better than your plastic or aluminum versions. It does include these rubber covers that go on it to protect it. It installs very quickly and easily. It is made in the U.S.A and the specs on it, it is designed to fit the hub bores of 1.810, and that would be the dimension right here. If we put a ruler on that, outer edge to outer edge, you can see is 1.810 and that is designed to work with the LM-12749 outer bearings.

That should do it for the review of the chrome plated bearing buddy bearing protectors for 1.810 hub bore. This is for a quantity of two.

  • Trailer Grease Seal Recommendation for Inner Diameter 1.7 inch and Outer Diameter 2.33 inch
  • The closest grease seal that will work for you is the part # 168233. This has an outer diameter of 2.33 inches and an inner diameter of 1.688. Since the inner diameter is a rubber portion I would stretch if needed to match yours that is only a hair larger. For dust covers the only thing we have that matches the size you need is Bearing Buddies part # BB1810.

  • How to Measure for the Correct Grease Cap or Bearing Protector for a Boat Trailer
  • It sounds like you need a grease cap or bearing protectors. The Bearing Buddy Bra, # BB19B, that you referenced covers the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors, like part # BB1980A. In order to choose the correct grease cap or bearing protector, I strongly recommend using a precise measuring tool such as a dial caliper. Hubs can have bores that differ by only a few thousandths of an inch, so getting an exact measurement will help us choose the correct cap for you. Check out the photo I...

  • How to Select Correct Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors for 4 x 8 Trailer
  • I reviewed the online owner's manual for your folding utility trailer and no information is provided on hubs supplied, so to select Bearing Buddy protectors for it you will need to remove the existing grease caps and measure the inside hub bore with a precision dial or digital caliper. You will need to measure to the nearest thousandth - to 3 decimal places such as 1.810. Once you know this you can use the linked page to select the Bearing Buddy set closest in diameter. • Replacement Bearing Buddy Recommendation for Bearing Buddy Bra Marked 17B
  • The cover with 17B on it means you have either a 1781 or 1810 Bearing Buddy currently. You would need to measure the outside diameter of the Bearing Buddy to determine which would fit. It will be either # BB1781 or # BB1810.

  • Does Redline Trailer Bearing Grease Seal # 29031 Include a Spring
  • The Redline Trailer Bearing Grease Seal # 29031 that you referenced does not include a spring. This single-lip seal is for use in the inside end of a trailer hub (the side closest to the axle and furthest from the spindle). I think the part with a spring that you are referring to is a special type of outer grease cap (not an inner grease seal) called a Bearing Buddy. These mount on the outside end of the trailer hub/spindle in place of a standard closed grease cap. They hold a supply...

  • Bearing Buddies for a Utility Trailer with 1.810 Hub Bore
  • The closest Bearing Buddies that we have to the 1.83 measurement you have given are 1.81 protectors # BB1810 and # BB1810SS. Depending on how you measured (using digital dial calipers is the most accurate) and because of subtle differences, these may actually be the correct ones. To be sure, I would need to know the inner and outer bearings numbers stamped into the metal of the bearings. You want to make sure you get the correct fit because if they are too small then you will just end...

  • How Do I Measure to Find out what Bearing Buddy I Need
  • Measure the diameter of the pilot hole of your hub. Bearing Buddies replace the grease cap on the hub. Remove the wheel and tire and pop off the grease cap from the center of the hub. Usually it is a metal cap that is just lightly hammered into place. Use a screwdriver to pry off the cap. Clean the grease off and measure the opening. I have included a video demonstrating the Bearing Buddy.

  • Replacement Bras For Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors
  • The grease cap plugs we offer like part # DC-RP are designed for a specific size which fits a 1.18 inch opening. This is designed for the E-Z Lube grease caps. I have attached a link to our product page that has the available replacement bras for the Bearing Buddy you can check out. These may work for you but there is no guarantee. For example, if you have part # BB1781, # BB1781SS, # BB1810 or # BB1810SS, the replacement bra you need is part # BB17B.

  • Measuring a Trailer Hub to Find the Right Bearing Buddies
  • Are the hubs the same part? Or different parts or manufacturers? Is the lo0ose side hub damaged at all? That is strange that the 1.781 would fit one side and not the other. To determine if # BB1810 will fit I recommend measuring the hub bore ahead of time. The measurement has to be as accurate as possible so use calipers, such as # PTW80157, to take the measurement.

  • Bearing Buddy Available for Hub Bore that Measures 1-7/8 inches
  • 7/8 of an inch in decimal form is .875 of an inch. The closest Bearing Buddy we have to that would be the # BB1810 which measures 1.810 inches. You might remeasure with a digital or dial caliper like part # PTW80157.
