Curt EZr Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch Operation

Curt EZr Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Operation

The Curt EZr Double Lock underbed gooseneck trailer hitch provides a sturdy, secure connection for towing your gooseneck trailer and also allows for a clean, unobtrusive look for your truck bed when you aren't towing. To tow, simply pull the included handle out to unlock the hitch. Then insert the chrome-plated hitch ball into the ball hole. You may need to rotate the ball to line it up with the dual locking pins. When the ball drops into place, rotate the handle counterclockwise until the locking pins snap into position. Because there are 2 locking pins instead of 1, you get extra security for your towing setup.

Get full bed access when you're not towing. Just remove the ball, flip it upside down, drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch, and use the handle to lock the ball in place. A rubber cover is included with the EZr Double Lock. When the ball is stowed upside down in the hitch, place this cover over the ball hole to keep out dirt and grime and create a clean look for your Ram 3500.

Curt Center Locator Tool

Curt Center Locator for Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

The innovative center locator tool included with this gooseneck trailer hitch is designed to make installation fast and easy by eliminating the need to measure where the ball hole must be cut into your truck bed. Once you have the custom installation kit in place and the gooseneck hitch is properly attached to the rails, the bright orange locator will help you to finish installation.

Curt Center Locator for Drilling Pilot Hole

Use the hole at the center of the locator to line up your 3/16" drill bit, and drill up from beneath the bed to create a pilot hole. This pilot hole will be your guide as you cut the 4" diameter ball hole into your truck bed.

When you begin cutting through your bed, the locator will act as a trim shield, ensuring that you don't drill too deep. Continue cutting from the top of your truck bed until orange shavings appear. Once you see these shavings, you've gone far enough. The center locator can be easily removed from the hitch once installation is complete.

Video Transcript for Curt Gooseneck C612-660 Review

Today we're going to review part number C612-660. This is the Curt EZr double-lock under-bed gooseneck trailer hitch with the installation kit. This part number is designed to fit the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 series trucks, with a 6' or an 8' bed. To determine the years that this will fit, I would recommend to go to the product page for this part number, and at the bottom of the page there will be a listing of the years and models of the Dodge Ram that this will fit onto. This is a heavy duty under-bed hitch, which will let you tow your gooseneck trailer. It uses a double-lock system, which provides added security, because it uses two pins holding the ball in place, instead of one.

And just to give you a better idea, because it's hard to see the pins, I have an example. Before you put it together, this is what it would actually look like. This is the handle, which is right here, and it's connected to the two pins right here. The two pins is what will lock the hitch ball into place. The chrome-plated hitch ball itself will easily remove when you're not towing, for complete access to your truck bed, and you can actually flip it over and store it upside down in the hitch for easy access.

It has a nice chrome ring that surrounds the hitch ball to provide a tight, low-profile look, and then there's also a rubber cap that you can put into it. It snaps into place, and that will help to seal it to keep any dirt and grime from getting into the ball hole that would cause any problems. So with the cover on, this would all be flush onto your truck bed, and you have full access to your truck bed. Now it does have the 5/8" thick spring-loaded safety chain hookups, which are built in. As you can see, they're spring loaded.

When you go to hook your safety chains up, just hook them on and it will hold it into place. When you remove them it will pull the U bolt back down flush to the truck bed. Now the locking mechanism has a zinc plating, which will provide superior corrosion resistance. The rubber cover, I mentioned, helps keep the grime out. Now this is made of steel, so it has a carbide black powder coat finish, which is durable and corrosion resistant.

It is an easy, one-person installation, with the included mounting kit of the rails and the mounting kits for your particular vehicle. A 4-inch hole in the bed is required. But what makes it easier is this orange piece here, which is called the center locator tool. And basically what that does, it helps eliminate any drilling errors. Lots of times when you go to drill a hole in your truck bed, you don't know when you measure it if it's the correct measurement or not. So you don't need to measure when you use this. What you would do is, before you put the chrome ring on, and when you go to install this up under the bed, when you go to put it up there, you put this into the hole, and then attach it to your truck bed. And then what you will do is, right in the very center there's a 3/16" hole that you put a 3/16" drill bit in, and then drill up from underneath your truck into your truck bed. And that will give you the center of the hole, so all you need to do then is once you have that center, use that as a pilot hole. And then when you cut your 4" diameter ball hole in your truck bed, that will be the pilot hole that will help you cut that hole. Then when you begin cutting your truck bed, this locator will act as a trim shield, ensuring that you don't drill too deep. Basically what happens is you continue cutting with the hole saw until the orange shavings appear. Once you hit the orange shavings, then you know you've gone far enough. And then this center locator can easily be removed once the hitch is complete. That's a very nice little feature with this Curt hitch. There is no welding required, and the truck bed does not need to be removed to have this installed. And just to show you again how this operates, if you pull the hitch ball out. Now just to mention, there is, if you'll notice on this side, there is an alignment slot that's not on this side. And that is because inside there is a pin that sticks out, and it will line that part up. So if you just release this, it will lock the ball into place, and then you're ready to tow. And when you go to pull it out, just turn it and it will lock it open. You can pull it out and then drop it into the storage position. The ball size is a 2-5/16" ball. Gross towing weight capacity of this is 30,000 lbs. Tongue weight capacity is 6,000 lbs. And this product does come with a limited lifetime warranty. Now there are two other items that we sell that are optional, you can buy, that we sell separately. One is an adaptor plate, part number C16210. This will allow you to tow a fifth wheel if you need to. Basically, it's a plate that would fit in your truck bed and attaches over the gooseneck ball and allows you to tow a fifth wheel trailer. The other product is a part number C602, which is an offset hitch ball. Those again are sold separately. It'll create additional space, because it will offset the hitch ball, and it'll give you more space between your truck cab and your trailer. And again, just to show you for storage, drop it in like that, put your cap on, and you're ready to go. That should do it for the review on part number C612-660, the Curt EZr double-lock under-bed gooseneck trailer hitch with the installation kit.
