Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Best 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Front Hitch Options

Today we're going to be taking a look at the best front hitch options for your 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Up top we got the Curt, part number C31071. On the bottom we got the Draw-Tite, part number 65068. The biggest difference that we're going to see between these two hitches is going to be when mounted on the truck, where the receiver tube is going to be located. On the Draw-Tite, it's going to give us a higher ground clearance and it's going to come further out towards the front of the bumper, so it's going to give us more clearance with our accessories away from that front bumper. We got a Curt mounted on this truck here and as you can see it comes out nicely under the fascia to where it's tucked up tight. The Draw-Tite would come out up here, right about the center of the license plate bracket, so if you do have a license plate on the front of your truck, it would need to be relocated. There are a couple of different options. You can get the Draw-Tite fixed bracket, part number 5443, or the Draw-Tite fold down license plate bracket, part number 8802.

There's going to be benefits to each hitch because of where they come out and the clearance that they give us, depending on the accessories you're going to be using. For example with the Curt, it's going to be good for use with things like hitch mounted snow plows. The Draw-Tite might be better for things like cargo carriers or winches to give you that extra ground clearance. The next difference that we're going to see is that the Draw-Tite has this extra 1/2 inch hole and that's going to be good for use with a J-pin stabilization system, which helps to eliminate some of the shake and play inside the receiver tube with the shank. Both of these hitches are going to feature a 500 pound vertical limit, which is going to be the tongue weight rating. They're also going to both feature a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight rating and a 9,000 pound max winch line pole, but you will want to be sure to check to see that the front axle of your truck is rated for that type of weight. For a brief recap, both of these hitches are going to feature the same weight ratings. When it comes to clearance, the Draw-Tite is going to give us a little bit more ground and bumper clearance.

When it comes to use with a trailer, both of these hitches are going to do really well. For recreational use, both of these hitches will work very well, depending on your accessory. If I was to buy one of these for my truck, I would lean towards the Draw-Tite because it does give me more clearance and that way I don't run the risk of possibly getting this dug into the mud when I need more clearance underneath the truck. We hope this helps in the decision making process for a front hitch for your Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

Installed the hitch today, pretty straightforward. Everything fit well except the 5/8 hole is very close to the plastic air dam. Another reviewer suggested it would be hard to get a locking pin in. He is right. I had planned to enlarge the 1/2 inch hole forward of this to 5/8 but forgot, so it will be bit more difficult now. There is good ground clearance. Tomorrow I will buy a license plate frame and make a bracket to mount it in a new place. On my 2015 Silverado, the instructions didn't mention you need to take off the plastic piece that holds the license plate. It is easy, just drill out the 4 pop rivets. 233626

Easy installation, prompt shipping, and so far so good hauling off the front. As far as the plate goes, I just put a fold in it and mounted it using the lower holes in the bumper and the top holes in the plate. 303284

This is a great product, I have a Silverado 3500, it was a very tight fit and took a bit to get it installed but I am an amateur so I am sure this would be a simple and quick install for someone more experienced. I can now carry bikes on the front of my rig while hauling my truck camper, I am very excited about the spring and summer camping season. The shipping was fast and the customer service was great. 245951

This has a better mounting arrangement than the Curt model (which hangs down too low). However, the Draw-Tite requires cutting a hole in the plastic air dam that is attached to the front bumper. 176070

I like the idea of more ground clearance but how far does the Draw-Tite stick out in front of the bumper. I am a little tight in my garage and every inch counts. Thanks!

Hitch installed very easily with just a little persuasion to get all of the bolts in. I like the higher location of the Draw-tite hitch, modification of the license plate wasn't a big deal. Etrailer is very good a providing additional info on their products so you can make an informed decision on which product to buy. 291934

I just put this hitch on my 2016 2500hd duramax. Took me about 20min piece of cake. But I have removed the plastic facial completely. More ground clearance. Also if you remove the plastic facia install this hitch there's a nice little opening to mount a 20" light bar. I'll post pic once light bar is installed 315884

The best company I have ever dealt with....customer service and technical help is outstanding.....had an issue with the fit, they called me back on a Sat to work out the install....also had to replace a part, called at 4:00 and they had it shipped out the same day. 278890

Hardest part of installation was cutting hole thru fascia. The rest of installation was straight forward. Needed 2 people. Took us about 2 hrs. Haven't used yet so can not comment on functionality. 311665

Although I haven't used it as of yet it will come in handy during camping season. It was very easy to install and the instructions were easy to follow. 253138

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Front Hitch
Do you have a question about this Front Hitch?

  • Options for Carrying Two 12 Foot Kayaks While Towing a 5th Wheel
  • There are a couple of options to carry your kayaks. Because of the length of the kayaks, they will likely interfere with the front of the 5th wheel camper if carried solely on the truck's roof. One options you have is to carry the kayas on the top of the camper. Keep in mind that this will increase the overall height of your camper, and you will want to measure the overall height to know your clearance for overpasses. We installed a Thule square bar system on one of our employees'...

  • Availability of Front Mounted Hitch Receiver for 2015 GMC 2500
  • We sure do! The Draw-Tite # 65068 and the Curt # C31071 front mount receivers are a fit for your 2015 Sierra 2500. The Draw-Tite model isn't a fit for Denali models, and will require you trim the fascia where the front license plate is located in order for the receiver tube to pass through the fascia (see diagram.) If you live in a state where a front plate is required, you'll need a # 5443 front plate relocation bracket. The Curt model will install with the receiver tube exiting below...

  • Why Does Fascia Trimming Measurement for Front Hitch Install on 2015 Chevy Silverado Go to Ground
  • The measurement needed to trim the fascia of your 2015 Chevy Silverado to install the front hitch part # 65068 does need to be from the tow hook bolt center to the ground. Basically the ride height of your truck won't matter since the purpose of the measurement it so that the opening in the fascia is exactly 3-5/8 inches below the tow hook bolts.

  • How Far Out Does Draw-Tite Front Mount Receiver Stick From Front Fascia on 2015 GMC Sierra 2500
  • I have included a diagram that shows how far the receiver sticks out on Draw-Tite front mount receiver # 65068. As you can see it will stick out approximately 2 inches from the front fascia. You likely would not be able to use the front license plate cap. You could use hitch mount license plate holder # 5443 though.

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Kayak Carriers for 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab
  • Your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab can be fitted with a Yakima round bar roof rack with either 58-inch or 66-inch cross bars. Your better option depends on the widths of your two kayaks and the type of kayak carrier you prefer to use. The linked age will show you both racks. Personally I would go for the 66-inch rack consisting of parts # Y00410, # Y00607 and # Y00124. Racks are designed to protect your vehicle finish so that is not a concern as long as the truck is clean...

  • Front Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500

  • Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 Series
  • I contacted the manufacturer and the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 65056, fits years 2011-2014. They had to make a slight change because the bumper/facia was lowered a little on the 2015 along with a slight frame change, so the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch # 65068 accommodates those changes and fits years 2011-2016. The manufacturer says that both # 65056 and # 65068 are a fit for your 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. The only difference between the Draw-Tite Front Mount...

  • Winch, Front Hitch, and Mounting Plate Recommendation for a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500
  • If you plan on using a winch for recovery when you are towing your fifth wheel trailer you would need a pretty heavy duty one. The highest rated one we carry would the Superwinch Talon Series Off-Road Winch # SW1618201 that has an 18k capacity. You would need a front mounted hitch and winch plate to mount the winch to the front of your vehicle like the part # 65068. Only issue with this is that it only has a 9k line pull rating. For a winch plate you would want the # C31009, but it also...

  • Front Mount Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500
  • Well Draw Tite has installed the front mount hitch on a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 like yours to know that it would fit properly so they could list it as a confirmed fit. We have sold several of these hitches and haven't had an issue yet with someone not being able to install it.

  • Can a Grille Guard and Front hitch Both Be Installed on a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • There are very few vehicles that can have both a grille guard and front mount hitch installed at the same time. On your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 it is possible that you can install Westin grille guard # 57-3785 and Draw-Tite hitch # 65068 without any interference. But there is some fascia trimming required for the hitch install because the receiver exist where the front license plate is. While this has not been tested I am confident that it can work.

  • Front Mount Trailer Hitch for 2016 Chevrolet Silverado that Requires No Trimming of Fascia
  • The Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, 2 Inch # C31071 will not require you to trim the front lower valance on your 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. I have attached the installation instructions and an installation video of this hitch on a similar truck for you. The Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, 2 Inch # 65068 that you referenced will require the front lower valance to be trimmed, but it will also sit a bit higher off the ground than the Curt front mount hitch.

  • Clearance for Silverado Front Hitch to Allow Use of Thule Goalpost Load Bar # TH997
  • In order to use the Thule Goal Post # TH997 on the front of your Silverado 2500 you will instead want to install Draw-Tite hitch # 65068 whose hitch tube will stick out further forward than the Curt # C31071. The other option is to use a different load support bar like the Erickson # EM07600-07601 Big Bed Load Extender which has a longer shank for more clearance at your front bumper.

  • Fit of Draw-Tite Front Mount Receiver # 65068 on 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 w/ Fisher Snow Plow Mount
  • Draw-Tite hasn't tested the compatibility of their # 65068 front mounted receiver with the Fisher plow mount, so they can't say if the two would work together. Your best bet would be to closely examine the linked installation instructions for the # 65068 hitch, and compare those to how the plow mount is bolted up to your vehicle. The 65068 hitch sits against the underside of the frame at the front of the frame members, and bolts through the underside and the inboard side of the frame members.
