Today on our 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe we'll be installing the CURT 2" front-mounted hitch, part number 31302. Now with our hitch already installed you can see it's nicely concealed behind the front fascia. The only thing sticking out is the receiver tube. It's got a 5/8 pinhole and a 2" by 2" receiver tube. This is a class three hitch. It has 500 pounds of tongue weight capacity and 5,000 pounds of tow capacity with a 9,000 line capacity.
The sleek design keeps most of it behind the fascia with just a little bit that's visible through the tow hook cutout in the fascia. It is also designed to work in conjunction with vehicles previously equipped tow hooks. Next I'll go ahead and give a couple measurements that will assist you with selecting for your new hitch. from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the front bumper is 6-1/4". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 10-3/4". This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a snowplow, winch, or cargo basket.
Now we'll go ahead and show you how to install the new hitch. Now to begin our install we'll go ahead and note that the vehicle is already previously equipped with factory front-mounted tow hooks. With that, we'll need to remove the manufacturer's bolt at the bottom of the frame. Now with the bolt out it's easy to see the forward and rear attachment points. We'll be using the hole cut out here in the frame as our rear attachment point on each side and for that attachment point we're going to install a 1/2" carriage bolt and block. The carriage bolt and block will go in the frame, then down through the hitch, where it will get secured with a 1/2" flange nut.
To get our hardware into the frame we're going to use the 1/2" bolt leader supplied with the install kit. To get our hardware into the frame we're going to use a reverse pull method. Start by sliding on our block, then threading on the carriage bolt. Feed the bolt into the frame first, followed by the block. We'll pull them both back down over the manufacturer's hole to create our attachment point. Next we can put our side bracket in place.
To do that we're going to reuse the manufacturer's bolt for our forward attachment point. Slide it over the bolt we just installed, then reinstall the manufacturer's bolt into the weld nut built into the frame with the tow hook, noting on applications that do not have a tow hook you will install another carriage bolt and block to create the forward attachment point hardware. Now with my bolt in place we'll go ahead and take the flange nut and thread it onto our carriage bolt. Now we're going to install our hardware loosely until we have it all in place. Now with our passenger side done I'm going to move over to the driver side and repeat the same process. Now with both side brackets in position but loosely installed, we're ready to put the hitch cross tube into place. We're going to secure it with the new 1/2" bolt that will go through the hitch, then through the side bracket, and get secured with a 1/2" flange nut. Now it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install these fasteners. Now with all our fasteners installed we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Once I have the brackets tightened down to the frame we'll then go ahead and tighten down the hardware that secures the cross tube to the brackets. Now once we have them all tightened down we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. That will complete our install of the CURT front-mounted hitch, part number 31302, on our 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. .
Average Customer Rating: 4.9 out of 5 stars (24 Customer Reviews)Easily attach a variety of accessories to the front of your vehicle with this corrosion-resistant trailer hitch receiver. Perfect for winches, spare tire carriers and more.
I gave this hits only 4 stars since all of the available information indicated it would bolt right on to my 2003 Avalanche 1500 (All Models) with no modification, but it wasn't quite that simple. First off, my Avalanche has the plastic cladding. The end brackets of the hitch push the bottom of the air dam under the bumper down a bit and make it bow out. I had to remove the bracket that secured the air dam to the center of the frame. I mounted the hitch in the upper position since I didn't want it to be so low, and the receiver ends up being 8" back from the bumper facia. I had to order an 8" extension to bring it out past the bumper. Other than that, I'm happy with the hitch. I just wish the fitment guide was a little more specific. 75440

I am a contrarian and a pessimist. Murphy's Law was written for me. My first order with eTrailer 2 mos ago was perfect. Not a single problem. Everything shipped on time (expedited even) and the order was complete. So, I thought I'd give eTrailer a chance to make up for it and ordered this hitch for my 2000 Sierra. Was it the correct fit ? No drilling ? I know, I'll use the "ask the expert", that way when things do go wrong it won't be my fault. "Buy this one", he said. "No drilling". "Trust me". OK, I placed the order. Uh Oh. Expedited again; the order arrived in 2 days. Well darn. It fits. Perfectly. No drilling. Easy install. 60 mins. I decided to mount it so it would fit through the facia. Darn, even that worked out with minimal difficulty. Now all I have to do is torque all the bolts to 75 lb-ft. Wait. They didn't tell me I needed a torque wrench. See. See. There's always something they don't tell you. I wonder if they sell torque wrenches at eTrailer? Maybe I'll give them one more chance. 52100

The shipping was quick. Installed easily. The hitch is visible just below the fascia at the bottom of the bumper. I had a front hitch on my previous truck (Tacoma); also from etrailer. I use the front hitch to move my travel trailer into tight spaces. Originally, with this recent purchase, I had purchased the incorrect item. All it took was an email from the staff at etrailer. The email contained product return instructions along with an RGA#. I just returned yesterday. This extra customer service made the return process quite simple. With all my needs regarding hitches, etc. I will always check etrailer first. 152029

I was not able to use my boat when the yard was full of snow and mud due to challenging driveway with hill and curves. I needed a front trailer hitch to push it up the driveway and swing into the garage. I called the local trailer hitch shop and was told that it would be $340 and about a week until I could get it installed. I took that as a challenge to see if I could do better. I found this hitch for $185, got it in two days and installed it myself in 90 minutes (with hardly a bad word spoken and no drilling required). Used it today for the first time and was able to park the boat without a problem. My only concern it that the install instructions are a bit vague regarding models with front tow hooks. I was able to figure it out and it works fine. 120099
Installation extremely easy, line up holes and bolt together, that simple. No trimming required. Purchase front hitch to park 29 FT. camper at a cramped storage facility. Dropping the camper off now is as easy as picking up the camper. All parts well packed. Website easy to use, prices are right and easy to track shipment. Would purchase from website again. 51121

Went together just like it was supposed to, but does hang a bit low. So I will be turning it over to gain a couple more inches. Other than that it works great. 79831

Initially I ordered the wrong part, my bad. I then called you and I was pleasantly surprised to be treated with professionalism. It was arranged to return the wrong hitch with an emailed mailing label sent to me. I received the correct hitch in record time. Installed the hitch (without any hitches) pun intended. Good directions. I will recommend that the first line of the instructions should be either in color or larger and/or italics to emphasize the 2 options of the install. Under or through the fascia. Thank you, I will recommend you to my friends 161414

I ordered the front mount hitch for my Silverado so I can move trailers around easily. I was upgraded to express shipping. I received my hitch quickly and in good order. It was easy to install. All I had to do was loosen the tow hooks, use the fish tool that was included to install the rear bolt and then re-install the tow hooks and tighten everything up. Took about an hour (only because I was taking my time). Good product good price good service. eTrailers was great about communicating the staus of my order at all times. 24650

I purchased this product to aid me into backing my new camper into my fenced backyard. I am one of the world's worst at backing camp and boat trailers. At the recommendation of a friend who once worked at a trail center he said the the front mounted trailer hitches were the easiest to help maneuver trailers into in tight places. The installation was simple and only took less than an hour. Mostly due to the fact I have tools and equipment that are available to me to aid in this type work. The shipping time was great. 117330
