Video of Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM
Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer
installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today on our 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, we'll be installing the Derale Transmission Cooler, part number D12906. We'll also be using the Derale Universal Mount Kit, part number D13002 and the GM Radiator Adaptor, part number D13035.Now our truck has had some modifications so the removal of the grill is different than normal, so we will not be showing it. With our grill out of the way, we'll go ahead and test fit the cooler. After finding a good spot for our cooler, using a couple of bolts and nuts we purchased separately, we'll attach the Derale brackets to the cooler. At this point, we want to leave the brackets loose until theyre mounted to the vehicle. We can go ahead and attach the rubber line to the cooler as well using two of the worm clamps. It also may be necessary to use some transmission fluid as lubricant to get the line around the fittings. We can now tighten down the worm clamp securing the rubber line to our cooler.
We will then place our cooler in its location and using a couple of self tapping bolts, we'll mount the cooler braces to the A-brace here on the truck. We'll do this on both sides. We can then tighten the brackets to the cooler. Now our cooler is secure and were ready to run the line. Going around the radiator, we'll pass the line through here to the factory cooler.Next, we'll need to identify the downstream transmission line.
This is the line that the transmission fluid is coming out of the factory transmission cooler in the radiator and heading back towards the transmission. To do this, we'll break torque the vehicle allowing the transmission fluid to warm up. The line that feels cooler is the one we'll be installing our new cooler into. We can then remove the holding device from the radiator and remove our line. Now, we'll take the GM adaptor and install it into the hole we removed the line from and reinsert the holding device. Now we'll determine where to cut our line in half on our new cooler.
Remember when cutting the line in half, youll want to leave enough room so the line doesnt kink. We'll slide the long end of our line onto the GM adapter here at the radiator, after sliding on another worm clamp where we can then tighten it down. We'll take the remaining clamp, slide it on the other line, slide the hose in, and tighten the clamp.Thats it, our transmission cooler is installed. We'll now go ahead and reassemble our truck, putting our grill back in place, as well as the headlights. Now all we need to do is check the fluid level and top it off as needed. We'll also want to make sure that there are no leaks. That completes our install of the Derale Transmission Cooler, part number D12906 in conjunction with the Derale Universal Mount Kit, part number D13002 and the GM Radiator Adaptor, part number D13035 on our 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche.

This product worked great for two reasons: It snapped perfectly into place after removal of the OEM hose connector (no leaks - by the way) and it eliminates the need to cut the end off of the metal tubing on your stock radiator hose. I would recommend attaching the cooling hose prior to installing the connector since the supplied hose is a very tight fit, I managed to fight with it better in the living room than under the truck.61080
