2012 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty - Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches

Heavy-duty, custom brackets dramatically reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Outboard design ensures simple access to mounting points. Brackets, 10-bolt base rails and hardware included.

  • Installation brackets mount beneath your truck bed to provide attachment points for 5th-wheel rails
  • Base rails sit in truck bed and allow installation of 5th-wheel trailer hitch
  • Fast, simple installation with outboard design
    • Extended-length base rails allow for mounting farther out from truck frame
      • Avoids underbed components for easier access
      • Cuts down installation time by more than half compared with universal kits
    • Custom brackets mount to existing holes in truck frame, minimizing drilling and measuring
  • Thoroughly tested kit is compliant with strict Society of Automotive Engineers guidelines
  • Kit includes brackets, 10-bolt rails and Grade-8 hardware
  • Compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley 5th-wheel hitches
  • Sturdy, black powder coated steel resists corrosion

  • Base rail dimensions: 48" long x 1-7/8" tall
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Reese's outboard installation kit for your fifth-wheel trailer hitch was designed with safety and convenience in mind. Just like the original custom mounting brackets, these brackets install using existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time. The biggest difference with this outboard kit is the extended-length rails. These above-bed rails are 5 inches longer than standard, universal fifth-wheel rails so that they will match up with the mounting points on the brackets, which sit below the bed and outside of your truck's frame. The result is a much simpler installation process, wherein most underbed components can be easily avoided. Because you are working outside the frame rails, you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process less of a pain.

The base rails included in this installation kit feature a standard 10-bolt design. Each of these rails attaches to the underbed brackets with two carriage bolts at both ends. A single bolt is used in the center of each rail to further secure it in your truck bed. The result is a set of base rails that remains firmly in place thanks to 10 points of contact.

This entire installation kit is built to be SAE J2638 compliant and has been extensively tested per specified accelerated-life-cycle criteria for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. The requirements for testing are based on the European-style test of 900,000 cycles, making this testing process among the most thorough and intensive in the industry.

RP56002-53 Frame brackets did not properly match 2013 F-350 frame. Bracket holes had to be elongated (received approval from Reese Tech Service for this) because there was no way they would bolt to frame without modification. Brackets also had interference with frame rivets and bracket holes for rivets also needed to be elongated. Fortunately neighbor had a milling machine which was used to modify brackets. RP30869 Reese Titan 16K hitch with round tube slider was manufactured in China. Serious quality issues required first hitch be returned to Reese because it was not functional. Hitch could not freely rock fore-aft because of improper casting and machining. Mechanic assembling hitch to its saddle had to use hammer to assemble. Replacement hitch received from Reese with a missing grease fitting but no similar interferences limiting hitch movement. The hitch saddle rests on 1" diameter pins oriented fore-aft through the slider cross piece that allows hitch to rock left-right. As manufactured hitch can move vertically about 1/16" on 1" diameter pins and fore-aft 3/16". So when driving over a hard bump hitch slams up and down on the 1" pin clearance. When braking hitch moves forward until hitch saddle contacts cross bar on slider. Contact is on as-cast, not machined surface. Contact is only on left side. When accelerating hitch moves back until hitch saddle contacts forward side of cross bar on slider. Same issue with contact but now on right side indicating improper set-up for machining of saddle casting. Design concept is good but design execution and manufacturing are very poorly executed. I am considering modifying hitch and slider cross bar to eliminate excessive fore-aft slop (clearance). I have not come up with a solution to reduce the vertical movement. Serrated jaw hitching mechanism is nice but also poorly manufactured. When backing into hitch at any speed (hard/fast or slow) jaws close but locking handle cannot be locked. Vehicle must be pulled forward very slowly / delicately with pressure applied to locking handle to get it into fully locked position. Because of apparent quality and perhaps design issues I cannot recommend these Reese products. I purchased Reese products based on past experience with other Reese products. Never again. 254646

Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel Installation Kit?

  • Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for 2011 Ford F-250 with 6-3/4-Foot Bed Towing 42-Foot Trailer
  • Yes, a sliding 5th wheel hitch is required for your 6-3/4-foot bed Ford F-250 to pull your 42-foot Forest River Vengeance toy hauler. If you have a model 398V that has a GVWR of 17238-lbs, then I recommend the Reese custom install kit # RP56002-53 along with the 20K-rated slider hitch # RP30083. The Curt hitch # 16516 is not rated high enough for your toy hauler. This install kit uses custom brackets the save you install time and drilling, and the round tube slider will give you a good...

  • Install Kit for Husky Fifth Wheel Hitch on 2012 Ford F250 Super Duty
  • Since a fifth wheel hitch is not a vehicle specific item, you can certainly use the Husky slider from your older truck and install it in your new F250. You will need a new install kit, several fifth wheel hitch manufacturers make custom install kits that would be compatible including Husky, Curt and Reese. The Husky kit is part # HT31408-686. If you would prefer Reese, then you can use # RP56002-53 or for Curt, # C16424-204. Each kit includes the frame brackets, bed rails and all necessary...

  • Reese Elite 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2012 F450 with Hitch Prep
  • It sounds like you have the 5th wheel trailer prep package installed in the bed of your 2012 Ford-F-450 Super Duty. This system is great as all you need is an Elite hitch like the Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30142 and you would be ready to go. You do not need rails as you have an underbed rail system in your truck bed already.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendations for a 1997 Ford F-350
  • First, the rails that are in the custom installation kit # RP56002-53 were intended for use with the R-hitches like # RP30867 so there will not be a problem there. But since you have a 1997 Ford F-350, you will need a different installation kit. There is no custom kit for the 1997 F-350 so you will have to use the universal kit # RP30035. The R20 5th wheel hitch will also fit these rails. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the universal installation kit for you....

  • Custom 5th Wheel Rail Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2012 Ford F250
  • Since you have the DEF tank on your 2012 Ford F250 Super Duty with an 8 ft bed you would want the Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # RP50073-58 since it is designed to accommodate vehicles with that. That is basically the difference between the # RP50073-58 and the # RP56002-53 that you referenced.

  • Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Ford F-250 and 2012 Heartland Elkridge Trailer
  • For your new 2012 Ford F-250 and Heartland 5th wheel trailer, I recommend going with a 16K Reese hitch which will give you plenty of room to spare as far as capacity and will provide you with years of service. To me a standard bed is an 8 foot bed. That would mean you would need the fixed version, # RP30047. But if your bed is 6-3/4 feet long, you would need a slider. The slider that offers the most travel and most clearance for making tight turns is the round tube slider found with...

  • Custom 5th Wheel Rail Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2013 Ford F350 with DEF Tank
  • For a fifth wheel rail installation kit that will not interfere with the DEF tank in your 2013 Ford F350 with a short bed you would want a Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # RP50073-58. This kit is specifically designed to not interfere with the DEF tank and would be your best choice. The Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit # RP56002-53 that you referenced is not designed to accommodate DEF tanks so I would not recommend it for you.

  • Are There Weight Capacities for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kits
  • There is not a defined weight capacity for the Reese fifth Wheel and Bracket # RP56002-53. We have contacted Reese before and asked and their response is always that it can handle the capacity of any hitch installed in the rails. So basically if you have a hitch designed for those rails and you are under the capacity for the hitch then you will be under the capacity of the rails. You should note that the Fifth Wheel system that is the same as the Ford hitch prep is the Reese Fifth Wheel...

  • Bracket Kit and Rail Placement for Existing 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Rails for a 2013 Ford F-350
  • If you are short on time you will not want the universal kit # RP30035 because it takes at least twice as long as a custom kit. On the universal kit you will measure from the rear edge of the truck bed forward 32-1/2 inches and this will be where the back of the rear rail will be. Then you just need to use the hitch to locate the front rail. I have included a link to the instructions for the universal kit. You will want to look at page 11 of 21 for a 2013 Ford F-350. You mentioned moving...

  • Installation Time for Husky 5th Wheel Hitch of 2011 Ford F250 Short Bed
  • Husky Towing estimates about a 3-1/2 hour install time for someone experienced in fifth wheel installation. Reese offers the # RP56002-53 install kit which lists a 2 hour install time, because no drilling is required to install the frame mounted brackets, which certainly would save some time. Curt offers the # C16424-104 which requires no drilling and has an estimated install time of about 2-1/2 hours. Any of the three installation kits mentioned above would be compatible with...

  • Fifth Wheel Installation Frame Brackets for 2013 Ford F250 SD
  • The Reese Outboard Quick Install Brackets you referenced, part # RP50082 are a fit for 1999-2010 F250 models, but wouldn't be a fit for your 2013 model. For a 2013 model, for outboard brackets, you would need the # RP56002 brackets. These brackets include the hardware to mount the brackets to the frame. For the kit that includes the frame brackets, the 48 inch long bed rails and all hardware, you'll need # RP56002-53.

  • 5th Wheel Installation Kit for a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 and Valley 70750 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
  • As long as your Valley 5th wheel trailer hitch fits in industry standard above the bed rails (which the 70750 model does) you can use a Reese, Curt, or Husky above the bed installation kit. Valley has gone out of business so there are no Valley kits being produced. I recommend Curt custom installation kit # C16420-204. It fits all bed lengths and cab styles on a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. I have included a link to a video showing installation of this kit for you.

With this kit installed the center of the hitch jaws will be approximately 2-15/16 inches forward of the center of the rear axle. I spoke with my contact at Reese about installation kit # RP56002-53.
