The cat-back system is the portion of the exhaust system from the outlet of the catalytic converter back to the tailpipe. MagnaFlow systems boast mandrel-bent tubes that allow for unrestricted airflow by maintaining the same diameter through every curve. This consistency in diameter decreases back pressure. Each MagnaFlow performance muffler has a stainless steel, perforated core that runs through the muffler - end to end - with no baffles, chambers or louvers that restrict airflow. A layer of stainless steel wool insulates the perforated core to absorb noise, shield from high exhaust temperatures and prevent blowouts. Together, the mandrel-bent tubes and muffler in this system increase horsepower, torque and fuel efficiency. MagnaFlow's signature sound is deep and throaty on throttle while remaining quiet inside your Chevrolet Pickup,-Silverado. All system components are made with 100-percent stainless steel. Clamps and hangers are included for installing onto the OEM exhaust system. MagnaFlow provides a lifetime warranty.

MagnaFlow Exhaust Installation - 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Series

Video Transcript for MagnaFlow Exhaust Installation - 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Series

Today on this 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Series extended cab short bed we are going to be installing MagnaFlow exhaust system part number MF16568. We are underneath the vehicle and the first thing I have done is lowered the spare tire out of the way to give us some extra working room. We also want to disconnect the battery. What that is going to do is once we get the system installed we can reconnect it and it will actually reset the computer system so it does not bring up any trouble codes from the new system. The first step before we can install our exhaust system is to of course remove the factory installed exhaust. There are four exhaust hangers that we are going to need to remove the exhaust off of towards the more rear side of the exhaust system. 00:39

To the catalytic converter there is a clamp attaching the exhaust to the converter. We are going to need to loosen that clamp as well. That clamp is going to be reused so we do not want to damage it so set it off to the side. Also to ease in the removal of the factory installed system we are going to need to cut the pipe just rear of the muffler right before the main bend right above the axle. Cut somewhere right in here, that will allow us to take that piece off and then remove the forward section all in one piece. With the cut made and the rear tail pipe removed I am going to go up to the forward side and remove my clamp next. With the clamp loosened up go back through and remove the main exhaust system off its other three hangers. 01:44

Now it is time to start installing our new system. We are going to start with the inlet tube into the catalytic converter and again we are going to be reusing the clamp that we removed in the previous step. You will notice there is a bend in the inlet tube coming over the cross member. Make sure the bend is going up. We do not want to fully clamp it down just yet. We want to wait until we get all of the pieces in position and then we will come back through and tighten everything down. We are going to tighten it up to hold it into place. Next we are going to put the muffler in to position. We are going to merge the two pieces together using the three inch clamp and it is going to merge up with the factory hanger. Then you need to attach it to the two factory hangers. We are going to start installing back to the tips. This model only had single exhaust on it but we are putting a dual exhaust system on it. So we are going to finish out on the passenger side where the factory pipe was and then we will come back through and finish off the driver side. 02:52

Next we are going to add the passenger side tail pipe assembly. Merge it with another 2-1/ 2 inch clamp. The difference between the driver and passenger side assemblies, this one has a larger hanger on it. Finally we will add the exhaust tip. Next we will start installing the driver side. The next step is to set up the hanger that is not currently on this vehicle because again this was a single exhaust previously. We went ahead and did a previous test fit and it looks like we are going to use this hole here to install our hanger into. What we are going to do first is take one of the nuts provided and put it on backwards. It is going to work as a jam nut at the bottom, then a flat washer. We will it through the mounting hole. On the top side we are going to use another flat washer and another nut. This setup is going to allow us to adjust up and down to where we need the hanger to be exactly. Next we are going to take the rubber hanger that comes with the kit and what I have done is run a 3/ 8 drill bit through each one of the holes to ensure that they fit properly. Spray the stud down with some WD-40 to make it a little easier to it on. 04:14

We can now put our next piece in position on the driver side, the one that has the factory hanger for it. Finally we can install the tip over on the driver side of the vehicle. With all of our pieces in position we want to now go through and do a check and make sure all of our tubes are in there proper position and are not going to interfere with any of the components underneath the vehicle. We also want to make sure that our tips are even at the end that the threaded hanger is going to allow you to adjust the driver side tip up and down. So once you have got everything in position the way you want it, you can start tightening the clamp down. Clamps do have a torque rating to them so you want to check with the directions to verify that torque rating. Now that we have got everything torqued down make sure you take the protective covering off the muffler. You want to reconnect the battery at this point and put the spare tire back up and the installation will be complete. With that, that will conclude the installation of MagnaFlow exhaust system part number MF16568.

Review from a similar MagnaFlow Stainless Gas Cat-Back

Have to say that I was a bit skeptical at first, as I don't know anyone that has installed this particular kit. After installation, I am pleased to report that it has exceeded my high expectations. Kit came complete with everything needed to install (less the flange bolts). Initial sound was excellent...not too loud that it bothers the kids while they're sleeping in the car, but deep and loud enough to turn some heads. Excellent experience dealing with Etrailer as well. Will not hesitate to do business with them in the future. Thanks again for the super fast shipping and excellent customer service! 57541

So during highway driving the drone is at a minimum? I have kids too and we take a lot of family trips. My concern is the drone. thanks,

Response to B. Kallan~ Highway noise is quite bearable, unless youre knee deep in your pedal. Going uphill it will be much louder, as it will with any acceleration. Constant highway speeds will result in a nice, mellow sound. Hope this helps!

Not a great fit on my 2009 This kit sounds and looks great, but the three bolt cat flange didnt fit my truck, it required machining to spread the holes further apart, just a heads up my honda ridgeline was built in june of 2009 and the install took 5 hrs because of this issue, however when finished it sounds and looks great. 3201

Not a direct Fit Sounds good but had to modify rear brackets and drill holes in the frame to install on 09 F150 crew cab..not impressed with fitment or installation time..modification time caused loss of profit.. 1905
