The spin-on adapter in this kit allows for the external oil lines necessary to install an engine cooler by converting your vehicle's oil-filter landing into a passageway. Because the adapter mounts where your filter normally is, you will have to use the mount provided to move your oil filter to another location. The cooler used is a highly efficient, radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger. In this system, finned chambers provide increased surface area for fluids to spread out while also continuously agitating them, resulting in superior heat transfer with minimum pressure drop.

- I checked with my contact at Derale, and the # D15451 engine oil cooler will actually work with O-ring diameters in the 2-1/2 inch to 3-1/2 inch range.
Since your O-ring diameter is 2-5/8 inches this cooler would work really well for your 2003 Toyota Tacoma.

- When you install this onto your 2001 Toyota Tundra you will screw the adapter from this kit onto where your factory oil filter installs and then use the included mount to relocate the oil filter somewhere else.
When picking out a place to relocate the oil filter to you will need to find a location out of the way of moving parts that the filter might interfere with, or areas that have excessive heat.

It is hard to say exactly how the temperature will decrease, but the more airflow the cooler will see the more the temperature will drop. If it would not drop to 180 degrees it would get pretty close.
