Today on our 2004 Ford pickup well be installing the Peak Performance Wireless Back-up Camera with color LCD monitor, part number pkc0rb. To begin our install well take the wire to the camera and feed it through the hole behind the license plate coverage area at the rear bumper and down between the hitch and the spare tire. Then well go ahead and mount the camera. The camera will be secured with the license plate bolts. Next well take the power wire for the back-up camera and wireless module and connect it here to the tow package of the vehicle. Well go ahead and pull back the wire loom and expose the manufacturers back-up wire signal.
For this application it will be the black wire with the green tracer. Well go ahead and cut the wire and strip back both ends. Then well go ahead and secure a butt connector to the manufacturers side. Well repeat the same process with our ground wire which will be the white wire. Now with the butt connectors on the manufacturers side, well go ahead and take the power lead provided with our install kit for our back-up camera and connect the red to power which will be the manufacturers black wire with the green tracer, and secure it with a butt connector.
Well repeat the same process with the black wire that will get connected to the ground side or the white wire on the manufacturers side again using the butt connector to make this connection point. Now with this connection made well go ahead and wrap up each connection with some black electrical tape and then the entire bundle to secure the wiring. Then well go ahead and replace the wire loom. Next well go ahead and take the two wires that we now have and start routing them up and over the frame following the manufacturers wiring to the corner below the drivers side taillight assembly. Note: Well also be using some zip ties to secure the wiring underneath the vehicle as needed.
Next well go ahead and remove the drivers side taillight assembly. To do this there are two fasteners that will need to be removed. Then well use a plastic trim tool or a flat-bladed screwdriver and gently remove the taillight housing being careful not to break the alignment tabs underneath. Now with the taillight housing aside, well go ahead and take the two wires that we ran over to the corner below the taillight assembly and feed them up following the manufacturers wire behind the taillight assembly. Here we can go ahead and secure them with a zip tie.
Now well go ahead and plug them into the wireless module and then secure the module here behind the taillight assembly. Now well go ahead and cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look and reinstall the drivers side taillight assembly. Next well need to install the monitor and power cable for the monitor. Well move to the drivers seat area and secure the suction cup for the monitor to the top of the drivers windshield out of the way of typical viewing, and then we can go ahead and install the monitor onto the bracket and well secure it here. Next, well start routing the power wire. Well take the plug and plug it into the monitor and then route the rest of the wire behind the threshold cover and weather stripping as we feed it down underneath the vehicle. For this application, the wire isnt quite long enough to reach all the way to the power port plus we can use them manufacturers optional tow package port to pick up our power and ground. So well go ahead and pull the manufacturers wiring down then cut off the auxiliary port. Well strip back both wires and well connect the power lead wires to the manufacturers wires using some butt connectors. Note: The solid black wire will be the hot side and will connect to the black wire on the manufacturers side. The black wire with the white tracer was our ground on our power lead and will connect to our white wire on the manufacturers side. Now, with this connection made, well go ahead and wrap up the connection point and the excess wire. Then well use a zip tie to secure it up underneath the dash and cut off the excess from our zip tie to clean up our install look. And there you have it. Weve completed our install. Now well go ahead through quick operation. As you can see the camera now has power with the flashing blue light, but once we turn the key on in auxiliary or start mode, put our foot on the brake and the vehicle in reverse and well automatically turn on the monitor and our power light will go solid blue and the monitor will display whats coming from the camera. Were ready to hit the road. That does it for the Peak Performance Wireless Back-up Camera with LCD Monitor, part number pkc0rb on our 2004 Ford pickup.
