Video Transcript for Hopkins Rear View Camera with Backup Sensors Review

Today, on this 2009 Honda Accord, we are going to be showing you the rear view camera system from Hoppy part number HM60195VA. We have all of our wires secured up and we just want to go ahead and give a quick test run to a back-up camera. You will see that when we put the power on, when we put the vehicle in reverse, that picture comes up. You will notice at the top there that we have three different colors. We have a green, a yellow and a red for each side. Those are going to be our distance indicators. And those will also be what will activate our back-up sensor as well. The red boxes will light up when we get near something. 0:32

You will see that we have a person here in our back-up camera. As they move towards the vehicle slowly, you can see as he gets closer. First our green indicators come on, telling us that he is a specific distance away from us. Each side is blinking, telling us that it is pretty much centered with the rear of the vehicle. If he was more off to the left, the left indicator light would be blinking on its own. If he were further to the right, the right indicator light would be blinking on its own. As he moves closer, you will see that not only are the green indicator lights on but we have the yellow indicator lights on as well. And then as he comes even closer, we get to the full red. And you are also obviously getting the beeping as well, letting you know that you are getting close. And there you have it for part number HM60195VA.

Works great, especially for hooking up my trailer. Was a easy install, good instructions. The only thing I needed extra was zip ties for attaching the cable to the frame. Installed it on a 2000 Ford, F-150 Harley Davidson edition. 6664

Don't let wired scare you. Installation: Cables to the camera and monitor but can't be sized longer or shorter if you are driving something longer. I have a Dodge Quad Cab with short bed and had spare cable to tie up underneath. Mounting camera is just like putting on license plate frame. Mounting monitor is even simpler because you put the monitor where you want it, run the cable under the dash, to the firewall, down the back of the engine compartment, along the bottom of the truck with wire ties. Power for the whole system comes from the backup light wire. The connection is made in the taillight assembly and is EASY!! Camera: Camera shows best in daylight. The picture is a bit more grainy at night. Either way, I backup under the tongue perfect every single time!!! Proximity sensor: Day or night, the backup warning lights function perfectly. The red, orange and green square outlines are always visible but it would be nice if they only appeared after the green (least close proximity) was activated (solid square). Monitor: I was surprised how large the display was. I can see great even with the small size. There are several buttons on the monitor but I haven't touched them. The picture was perfect out of box. I was hoping that I would have to touch the buttons because the mount isn't stiff enough to take my ham-bone finger poking at it. Picture has not faded out in daylight like computer monitors do. When I first bought this, I didn't know who Hopkins was. Now, I know that they are one of the biggest players in the trailer hardware business. 3075

This is a very good product. I am very pleased especially since it is a "one size fits most" model. I installed this on a 2007 Saturn Outlook XE. This vehicle has terrible a rear view and didn't have a OEM back up camera. I mounted the monitor in the shaded area just above the rear view mirror. I routed the wire through the headliner from rear to front of the car. I originally planned on running it under the carpet (easier) but there isn't enough wire in the kit to do so. I had to cut some of the fake chrome/plastic molding/crown from above the license plate because the camera didn't fit in there. I warmed up the plastic with a hair dryer and a hacksaw cut through it easily. It took me 5 hours to install due to the cutting. It's well worth it though. 74667

Installation was as simple as the video. I had to drill a hole behind my license plate to get the cable into the trunk but the rest was just snaking it through the trunk and along the side channels up to the front dash. Turned it on and it worked first time. This works perfectly for me and I like the audio alert. Haven't had any problems since I installed this. And I do recommend this. I did overdrill the Hole in the trunk and had to go to Pep boys to get a larger grommet, but that was my fault. Do get the ring terminal. It costs 5 cents, but that puts you into the free shipping range, and you will then save about $12.00 on shipping. You'll use the Ring terminal anyway and it doesn't come with one.73315

Product was shipped and arrived with a few days. Packaging was pretty good and included all the necessary parts for the install accept for zip ties. No biggie. Pretty much plug and play, so anyone with some experience with cars can do this. Hardest part was running the cable from the license plate to the screen inside. Note: Its a good idea to connect the wiring to the reverse lights and test to make sure everything works before mounting everything in place. I've only been using it for the last two days so I still need to do a some fine tuning with the camera angle and the proximity sensors. All in all good product.54884

Installed the backup sensor system on 2012 Mazda CX-9. Very easy to do on this vehicle because backup lights and license bracket are all on the lift gate. System works great so far. Clearer instructions with installation examples for vehicles with differing license frame and backup light locations would be helpful. 53284

I just recently purchased and installed the hopkins camera HM60195VA and say I love it. It's an easy install for my dodge challenger and helps out beyond words when backing up. The install only took about an hour and if your not really looking you can't tell there is a camera there. The wiring was simple and plenty long enough and the monitor looks like it belongs there. I highly recommend this set up.39787

So far, I am very pleased with my Hopkins Rear View Camera with Backup Sensors. The entire system only took me about an hour to install , and was pretty easy.I installed the camera on a 2010 Ford F 150 which definitely needs a good camera to avoid backing into something. I was happy to find that the cables included were long enough to reach the cab on a big truck. I enjoy having the benefit of the camera and hearing the sensors at the same time. I was notified immediately about my order, had it delivered in a timely manner, and was well packaged. After having two previous inferior camera systems, I am hoping this is the last one I will need to install. I would feel very comfortable recommending this system to others. I will also say that I've had this product for only one week, and should it fail in the immediate future, I will be sure to comment on that too.31610

Good Quality Product for Price Shipped out the day I ordered and I installed last week. So far works great. Instructions clear and easy to install once got back of car opened up; most difficult thing was getting camera wire into my car without drilling new hole. The reverse sensors work well and picture is very clear with good color. Was concerned about 2.5" monitor but is adequate. Wanted small unit so I had more mounting options. Picture comes on in about 1 sec when put in reverse. 2669

  • What Back-Up Camera Can be Used with a 32 Foot Travel Trailer
  • At that trailer length, we have two wireless cameras that will work for you. The first is the Swift Hitch Camera, part # 04928. It will transmit up to 300 ft. with no obstructions. I would mount it towards the top of the trailer to get better signal transmission. The camera and monitor have built-in batteries and the kit includes a charger that will charge both from your cigarette lighter port. You could also use the Master Lock Back-Up Camera, part # 4843DAT. It transmits up to 125 ft. There

  • What Are the Dimensions of the Monitor in Hopkins Rearview Camera with Backup Sensor
  • The monitor itself, measures 3-1/2 inches long, 2-1/8 inches wide and about 1 inch thick. The mount is only about 1 inch from the back of the monitor to the base. It is an adhesive mount that could be mounted virtually anywhere; windshield, top of dash, and front of dash. Since it is not too long, it should not interfere with driving. I have included a video of this kit being installed on a 2009 Honda Accord.

The benefit of this backup camera is that it wired directly to the display which will minimize interference from other wireless devices.
