Today on our 2007 Ford Mustang, we'll be installing the tow ready upgraded circuit protected modulite with 4 pole harness and hard wire kit part number 119179KIT. We'll begin by opening up the trunk of the vehicle. We'll first need to begin by removing this plastic threshold piece here at the back of the trunk. To do this, we'll unscrew the 2 tabs, 1 on each side and lift the center piece out. Now that we've got the center plastic threshold piece out of the way, it gives us the exposure to both the right and left side wiring harness. To unplug, you may simply push in on the locking tab and gently pull apart. We're going to go ahead and unplug them so we can use our test light and figure out which wire does which function for the lighting. Now that we have our test light grounded to the body of the vehicle, we'll go ahead and have someone run through the light functions. Now you'll notice because of the way the lights are set up on this Mustang that you'll have 2 hot wires or 2 live prongs for each of the light functions. For the running lights here on the driver side, we'll have a blue wire with a yellow stripe as well as a tan wire with a red stripe that are both running light functions.
For the turn function on the driver side, it will be the white wire with the red stripe or the blue wire with the red stripe and for the break, it will be the same 2 wires, the white wire with the red stripe or the blue wire with the red stripe. Now we'll go ahead and move over here to the passenger side where we'll again unplug the wiring harness and use our test light to see which wire is the turn signal and this one here, you can see it's the red wire with the white stripe. It's the same color wire for both prongs that are hot during the turn signal. Now we'll go ahead and go over the color wires of what does what on the modulite. The green wire will run over to the passenger side and we'll tie that in with the red wire with the white stripe as this would be the turn signal for the passenger side. The brown wire is the running light circuit, that will get tied in with the blue wire and the yellow stripe or the tan wire with the red stripe. The yellow wire is the break and turn signal function, so that will get tied in with the white wire with the res stripe or the blue wire with the red stripe over here on the driver side as well. Now the red wire, because its light function is a 2 wire, not a 3 wire system, we will be putting a ring thermal on the end of that and grounding it with the white wire that already has the ring terminal on it as that is the ground as well. The large red wire, we'll be using a butt connector and connecting the extra length of black wire that will run up to the positive side of the battery. Now in order to run the wire up to the positive side of the battery, we're going to need to locate a gramat here on the trunk that we can pull the wire through.
You take out the trunk lining here and set it aside, you'll see that there's a gramatover here on the driver side. We're going to go ahead and use the end of our test light to poke through the gramat where we can push the wire up from the bottom. With the wire pulled up into the trunk area, we'll go ahead and use a butt connector and connect the black wire with the large red wire on the modulite box. Next, we'll go ahead and add a ring terminal to the end of the red wire and then we'll take the red wire as well as the white wire and put it on the ground here at the back of the vehicle. Now we can go ahead and take the 2 sided tape that comes with the kit and we'll add it to the back of the modulite box. Before doing this now, we want to take a little rubbing alcohol and clean the back of the box as well as the area on the anterior portion of the trunk that we're going to stick the box. Once we have that done, we'll go ahead and put the 2 sided tape to the back of the modulite box and then peel the back of the 2 sided tape and secure it to the inner portion of the trunk.
Now that we have that done, now we're ready to use our quick splices and connect our brown wire, our yellow wire and our green wire in on the wiring harness. Now we'll begin with the brown wire to tie in with the running light circuit. We'll be using the brown wire from the modulite box and the blue wire with the yellow stripe. Now, when we squeeze the quick splice together, we noticed that it actually cut the "factory" 00:03:51 wiring harness, so in order to fix this problem, we'll go ahead and use the butt connector to make this connection instead and lay the brown wire in 1 side. Now that we have the brown wire connected, next we'll go ahead and use the quick splice and connect the yellow wire in with the white wire with the red stripe. Now that we've got these 2 connections made over here on the driver side, we'll go ahead and route the green wire over to the passenger side where we'll tie in with the red wire with the white stripe. Now we'll go ahead and finish running our power wire up to the front of the vehicle, so we'll go back underneath the vehicle to do this. We're going to route our power wire over here along the driver side up to the fire wall area of the vehicle.
Now as we pull the wire out of the gramat at the rear of the trunk, we went ahead and use a couple quarter inch wire loom clamps to secure the wire until we we're able to get it up underneath the vehicle. The metal loom clamp that we used is part number A0250 and we used 2 of these at the rear of the vehicle just outside the rubber gramat where we pulled the wire from inside the trunk. When routing the wire, make sure you stay away from areas they become hot, have sharp edges or may move as this could damage the wire. We'll then go ahead and use a section hold airline tubing to help us route our wire to the front of the vehicle. Now that we've got out power wire up to the firewall on the driver side, we'll go ahead and pull it up to the upper portion of the engine bay and then we'll route it across the fire wall over towards the battery. Again we use inaudible 00:05:15 ties to help secure the wire along the way. And once we're over here at the battery side, we'll go ahead and take our fuse holder and we'll have to cut the wire in half where 1 side will get a butt connector and the other side will get a ring terminal added. We'll then go ahead and cut the black wire to length and tie in with the yellow wire using the butt connector. We'll then go ahead and loosen up the positive side of the battery where in this case we'll trim out a section of the ruing terminal so it slides underneath the knot on the positive side of the battery. We can then go ahead and tighten it down. Once the wiring is secured to the battery, all that's left to do is put the 10 amp fuse in the fuse holder. Now that the install is complete. We'll go ahead and have someone run through the light functions again we use our test light to make sure that the 4 flat's working properly. With ground and the test light connected to the open prong in the 4 flat, we'll touch the brown wire for the running lights, the yellow wire for the left turn or driver side, the green wire for the right turn or passenger side and the green and the yellow wire for the breaks. As you can see, all the functions are working just fine. Now when you're using your 4 flat, want to make sure that you keep it away from the center trunk latch or in this case, there's another small prong that pushes down on the trunk. You want to make sure the wire goes in between these 2 when closing the trunk. The weather striping will push in enough to not damage the wire. When not using your 4 flat, you simply coil it up and store it in the corner of the trunk. And with that, that will conclude our installation of the tow ready upgraded circuit protected modulite with 4 pole harness and hard wire kit part number 119179KIT on our 2007 Ford Mustang. .

I bought the Draw-tite hitch and the Modulite wiring harness for my new 2013 KIA Soul and was overall very pleased with the service and the product ..... I'm glad I watched the installation videos when I ordered the items as I was unable to find them when I went back in to doublecheck a couple of details ..... the Modulite wiring harness did not come with any instructions at all ! And the hitch instructions didn't show the secret trick about lowering the muffler .... the videos were VERY helpful but I don't understand why I couldn't find them when I went back in ( admittedly, on a different computer ) to check .... But everything went together very well and is working perfectly ! E-trailer was very prompt, very competetively priced, and very helpful with their online videos ..... thanx, E-trailer ! 89335

I purchased this product so that I could tow a small sailboat trailer behind my '94 Civic coupe. After finalizing my order online, I realized I had made a mistake and needed to change my order. I called the customer service line and a human customer service representative resolved the issue within minutes. Service was friendly and excellent, and shipping was prompt. Since the harness fits multiple makes and models a reference manual (Haynes, Chilton, etc.) for your specific vehicle is recommended to review wiring diagrams and find suitable wire routes. Ample wire is provided, and the attachment hardware was more than sufficient to make installation clean and secure. The power module and signal wiring is invisible behind the trunk paneling, and the trailer hookup discretely tucks under the carpet when not in use. 85728

The hitch installation went better than could be expected. Thirty minutes or so and I had the hitch installed. The wiring kit for my 04 Volvo XC70 was a little different story. I had read that the Volvo's had a towing package connector near the spare tire. I found it but was curious about what pin went where, A check of the web revealed that all the wire signals were there and already were buffered with relays and fused. I thought long and hard about using the wiring kit but decided to use it anyway. Once I had all the wiring figured out the rest was easy. The customer service person (Rebecca) really knew her stuff and was great to work with. The shipping was fast and it met all my expectations. You can't go wrong with etrailer. 86760
Product delivered very quickly, as described. I found no installation instructions included but after a call to etrailer I was directed to a link where I could print my own copy of the installation instructions. This kit was going on a Infiniti EX35. Access to the inside area behind the tail lights was a mystery and not wanting to damage or break anything in the process, I opted to have my Infiniti dealer install the after market parts. The installation took the technician around 2.5 hours, mostly to disassemble and reassemble the back of the car. The wiring part is easy. This was not cheap, but it's done and works fine. This would be a good car for etrailer to do an installation profile on for the skilled DYIer. 126836

I bought the trailer electrical kit on the same order as a Curt hitch for my 2014 VW Jetta Wagon. Both items arrived on time packed in the same box and in good shape. I will use the hitch and light hook up to tow a small sailing dingy. I watched the install videos for both products and I found them very accurate as well as helpful. The hitch was installed as planned in about an hour. The light hook up took a little longer as I had to jack up one whole side of my car for access running a power wire up to the battery. I towed the boat to the water yesterday and all worked just fine. 129324

Both the dealer and U Haul said they couldn't do a wire package for a 2013 Infiniti EX37. This kit worked just fine. Could have used instructions for the lighting adapter, but watching the video a couple of times and taking notes for which color did what seems to have worked. Delivery was quick. Thanks for the tester, couldn't have done without it. (Use a leather glove on the hand holding the wire!) 126924

Bought this harness along with a hitch. This wiring harness was easy to install but the instructions could have been a little clearer. The color of one wire in the harness was misstated in the instructions. Once installed, it worked perfectly and only took about an hour and a half. 83368

Harness works great! It was straight forward for anyone with any wiring knowledge. The video was helpful but would have been more helpful with an instructional sheet included. I called customer service to ask a question and they were very helpful and quick in response. Good product at a good price. 130749
The trailer hitch was just as described and the install process was very easy. The online video helped and the wiring package was time consuming but I took my time and did everything properly and ran wires in an orderly fashion. All items needed for a successful install were included and FAST shipping. 82174

Worked just fine. Wiring was not as difficult as I had expected for my particular car (BMW 328) Just wished that there had been a youtube video for my car. But it went ok just the same. One other thing, I could have used two butt connectors rather than just the one that was supplied with the kit. 99203
Trailer hitch receiver and wiring kit for a Honda Civic ... I was impress with how quickly the product arrived. It arrived in excellent condition and was easy to install, just as the web page stated. I will definitely purchase products from this company in the future! 103569

Product arrived in a timely matter, appears to be of high quality and was relatively easy to install. The inclusion of a circuit tester was a welcome feature. If the products' longevity matches its' appearance, it is an excellent buy. 120841

The kit was straightforward to install. It took me about 4 hours and presto....working trailer lights for my VW Sportwagon TDI. 100505
Straight forward installation. I am comfortable with 12V DC work and chose to solder all wires rather than using the "wire taps". Install was fun and everything worked right the first time! Thank you E-Trailer! 89330
Arrived timely. No parts missing. Everything lined up correctly. The electrical hook-up was not a plug in. I wish I had known I needed an end plug for the Saab 9-5. Direct-wiring it took extra time. 86830
