Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Ford Crown Victoria

Today for 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, we're going to install part number 119179kit. First thing we need to do, is to get access to the wire harness so we can install our new parts. We'll go ahead and open up the trunk. To remove the threshold there are just four push pin fasteners. So we'll go ahead and remove those and set the threshold out of the way. We'll peel back the carpet liner to get access to our wires. Now on this particular vehicle we can get access to our wires all on the driver's side.

Now we'll go ahead and pull the wires out of the limb and just work with the wires we need to. We found out that green with the orange stripe will be the left turn signal, we'll connect your yellow wire for a module to that. Orange with blue stripe is going to be the right turn signal, so we'll go ahead and connect that to our green wire. Then our brown wire will be our running light signal now connect up to our brown wire on our car. So those are the only two colors that will match, brown to brown. Wire harness in our car uses a combined system so we don't need the red wire in our module. When we don't need to use that, we need to ground it. We'll use one of those quick splice connectors to connect the red wire to the white wire. Now at this point we'll go locate some sheet metal on the inside of the vehicle and we'll go ahead and attach our ground. Next we'll go ahead work with the black wire from the module. This is connected to the larger piece of wire that comes with the kit and will be eventually ran to the battery.

We'll take our black wire and connect it to the black wire in the module. We'll go ahead and use a butt connector to connect the two wires together. Now we need to get our black wire to the outside. To do that, we're going to enlarge a preexisting hole in the floor. We'll drill the hole out to 9/16ths.

So to protect the edges we're going to use a snap bushing. We'll be using part number SWC8055. Just go ahead and push your bushing into place. Then we can go ahead and route our black wire through. We'll pull our wire through and take up most of the slack. Then we'll go ahead and mount our module.

There's a hole in the sheet metal that we can just zip tie our module to. Then we'll go ahead and zip tie the rest of our wires. Make sure it's safe and secure and out of the way. When everything is secure on the inside of the trunk, we'll go ahead and route our wire to the battery. After our bushing underneath the vehicle where there's a large hole that we can route our wire through. Now, to help pull our wire through, we're using a piece of airline tubing. This also could be a stiff piece of wire. We'll use this route to go over our rear suspension. Once we get past that point we'll go ahead and route along the outside edge and follow the brake lines going all the way up towards the front. Now to help pull the wire up out of the engine compartment, we'll go ahead and use the piece of airline tubing and run it down first, connect our wire, and then pull it back up. Okay, once you pulled it up and out of the way, we'll make sure we stay away from anything that's moving like suspension components or steering components. Okay, we're just going to run it around the corner of the engine compartment then back over to our battery. Now we have just enough wire to do this. To help secure our wire, we drill a few holes on the panel underneath the hood and use some zip ties to help hold our wire in place. A general wire. We'll go ahead and add our fuse holder. We'll go ahead and make a cut and a loop in our fuse holder. One end will go to our battery and the other end will go to our black wire. When connected to the black wire, we'll go ahead and use a butt connector. And a ring terminal will go to the other end of the fuse holder. Then we'll go ahead and connect that to the positive side of the battery. We use a nut and a flat washer to help secure our connection. Now, we'll use a 8mm nut part number 185917. With our electrical connection made, we'll go ahead and install our fuse into the fuse holder. We'll put the cap on and tuck it down into place next to the battery. All our electrical connections are made up, let's go ahead and try out our four-pole. So we'll take our ground wire from our tester and connect it up to the white wire. Then we'll test the brown wire, that will be our running light circuit. The yellow wire will be our left turn and green will be our right turn signal. Now, brake signal will be a constant feed on the yellow and green wires. Okay, with everything working, we can go ahead and re-install our interior components in the trunk. Now the user wire harness is pretty easy. All we have to do is pull it out of the trunk. The door seal is thick enough where it doesn't hurt the wire. Just make sure you stay away from the latch in the center. Okay, with that, that will finish it for our install for part number 119179kit on our 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. .

- 119179KIT

by: Mark M05/06/2014

I bought the trailer electrical kit on the same order as a Curt hitch for my 2014 VW Jetta Wagon. Both items arrived on time packed in the same box and in good shape. I will use the hitch and light hook up to tow a small sailing dingy. I watched the install videos for both products and I found them very accurate as well as helpful. The hitch was installed as planned in about an hour. The light hook up took a little longer as I had to jack up one whole side of my car for access running a power wire up to the battery. I towed the boat to the water yesterday and all worked just fine. 129324

Harness works great! It was straight forward for anyone with any wiring knowledge. The video was helpful but would have been more helpful with an instructional sheet included. I called customer service to ask a question and they were very helpful and quick in response. Good product at a good price. 130749

The harness and hitch have worked great. I see a lot of trailer hitches that rust very quickly. This one still looks very good. I just recently ordered a hitch for my Ford Ranger from etrailer as I was happy with what I had purchased before.

Both the dealer and U Haul said they couldn't do a wire package for a 2013 Infiniti EX37. This kit worked just fine. Could have used instructions for the lighting adapter, but watching the video a couple of times and taking notes for which color did what seems to have worked. Delivery was quick. Thanks for the tester, couldn't have done without it. (Use a leather glove on the hand holding the wire!) 126924

- 119179KIT

by: Dave V.07/12/2013

I bought the Draw-tite hitch and the Modulite wiring harness for my new 2013 KIA Soul and was overall very pleased with the service and the product ..... I'm glad I watched the installation videos when I ordered the items as I was unable to find them when I went back in to doublecheck a couple of details ..... the Modulite wiring harness did not come with any instructions at all ! And the hitch instructions didn't show the secret trick about lowering the muffler .... the videos were VERY helpful but I don't understand why I couldn't find them when I went back in ( admittedly, on a different computer ) to check .... But everything went together very well and is working perfectly ! E-trailer was very prompt, very competetively priced, and very helpful with their online videos ..... thanx, E-trailer ! 89335

Did your kia soul have led lighting? If so which brand did you buy and was it easy to run all the wires with go results. thanks jack

You can use the 119179KIT harness with both LED light and non-LED versions of the Soul. Since the 119179 harness has its own power feed, the LED lights would be protected. We have installed the kit on a 2013 Soul and shot a video of it that I have linked below. If you let me know what year Soul you are working with and whether or not yours is LED, I can check to see if there are other options.

- 119179KIT

by: Andrew M.06/24/2013

I purchased this product so that I could tow a small sailboat trailer behind my '94 Civic coupe. After finalizing my order online, I realized I had made a mistake and needed to change my order. I called the customer service line and a human customer service representative resolved the issue within minutes. Service was friendly and excellent, and shipping was prompt. Since the harness fits multiple makes and models a reference manual (Haynes, Chilton, etc.) for your specific vehicle is recommended to review wiring diagrams and find suitable wire routes. Ample wire is provided, and the attachment hardware was more than sufficient to make installation clean and secure. The power module and signal wiring is invisible behind the trunk paneling, and the trailer hookup discretely tucks under the carpet when not in use. 85728

Product arrived in a timely matter, appears to be of high quality and was relatively easy to install. The inclusion of a circuit tester was a welcome feature. If the products' longevity matches its' appearance, it is an excellent buy. 120841

- 119179KIT

by: Paul C06/29/2013

The hitch installation went better than could be expected. Thirty minutes or so and I had the hitch installed. The wiring kit for my 04 Volvo XC70 was a little different story. I had read that the Volvo's had a towing package connector near the spare tire. I found it but was curious about what pin went where, A check of the web revealed that all the wire signals were there and already were buffered with relays and fused. I thought long and hard about using the wiring kit but decided to use it anyway. Once I had all the wiring figured out the rest was easy. The customer service person (Rebecca) really knew her stuff and was great to work with. The shipping was fast and it met all my expectations. You can't go wrong with etrailer. 86760

by: switchback04/23/2014

Product delivered very quickly, as described. I found no installation instructions included but after a call to etrailer I was directed to a link where I could print my own copy of the installation instructions. This kit was going on a Infiniti EX35. Access to the inside area behind the tail lights was a mystery and not wanting to damage or break anything in the process, I opted to have my Infiniti dealer install the after market parts. The installation took the technician around 2.5 hours, mostly to disassemble and reassemble the back of the car. The wiring part is easy. This was not cheap, but it's done and works fine. This would be a good car for etrailer to do an installation profile on for the skilled DYIer. 126836

- 119179KIT

by: Shawn S.01/01/2015

Excellent customer support. Quality of the installation video was also excellent. Regarding the product, I was a bit surprised at the wire harness length that connects to the trailer is designed to be pulled out of the back of the car and the rear hatch closed down on it (appears rinky-dink) rather than routed under the car and mounted to the hitch, but I think I will get used to it. Also, a nice touch would have been to include the grommet and clamps recommended in the video in the kit for a few more dollars. Unless you view the complete video prior to placing your order, you end up needing to improvise along the way when installing the product. 167492

- 119179KIT

by: Mike W.03/18/2015

My package may have been missing an instruction sheet. Nothing in the package told me which wire from the module was for left turn signal, etc. I was able to get that from watching one of the installation videos that are with the product description on the web site. My installation was probably easier than most, because my 2004 LeSabre has the battery under the back seat. The thing I like most about it is that I know whatever trailer I might hook up to, it won't blow any tow vehicle fuses. 179408

by: Dick P.10/29/2014

The Kit is outstanding - everything you need to install the kit is included with clear and complete instructions. This is from a complete novice in doing any car wiring. The most difficult part for me was running the wiring from rear to front in a 1985 Mercedes 300TD, there were no instructions for that vehicle BUT I really didn't expect them. Thank you for an excellent product and outstanding instructions to accompany it. 158311

by: Neil N.03/31/2015

Product delivered onetime and in great shape. The "how to" videos on attaching the trailer hitch and the trailer wiring harness made for an easy install. Very thorough. Just one comment to note: the green wire going to the passenger side was about 12" short. Had to splice. That being said…very pleased with these products and the finished look. Thanks. 181815

Bought this harness along with a hitch. This wiring harness was easy to install but the instructions could have been a little clearer. The color of one wire in the harness was misstated in the instructions. Once installed, it worked perfectly and only took about an hour and a half. 83368

Please tell me how U found the wires. :- I have an 08 EX35

You will need to use the included circuit tester to probe wires and check them for functions. One person will sit in the vehicle to activate tail lights, brake pedal, and turn signals. You will use a circuit tester to pierce the wires behind the tail lights to find which wire carries which function. Check out this video on the subject.

This is a universal wiring harness and included fairly poor instructions to assist with my vehicle installation. Pretty much needed to figure everything out on my own including much more time than I would have expected to disassemble the interior of my wagon to locate the appropriate wires. But, it eventually worked fine. 159459

The trailer hitch was just as described and the install process was very easy. The online video helped and the wiring package was time consuming but I took my time and did everything properly and ran wires in an orderly fashion. All items needed for a successful install were included and FAST shipping. 82174

Worked just fine. Wiring was not as difficult as I had expected for my particular car (BMW 328) Just wished that there had been a youtube video for my car. But it went ok just the same. One other thing, I could have used two butt connectors rather than just the one that was supplied with the kit. 99203

Trailer hitch receiver and wiring kit for a Honda Civic ... I was impress with how quickly the product arrived. It arrived in excellent condition and was easy to install, just as the web page stated. I will definitely purchase products from this company in the future! 103569

Install was fairly easy. The hardest part was getting under the car to route the power wire, though putting both driver side tires on ramps gave me just enough room. No directions came in the package, but they have a video here on the site that explained everything. 171488

The product is excellent. The shipping was faster than I thought possible. The service and website works seamlessly. The ONLY thing that was a problem was that the package did not include a wiring diagram so it took a lot extra time to install. Didn't like that. 153133

  • It could be a bad ground. You will have to check the ground points on each of the lights and on the trailer connector. The lights usually ground through the mounting studs. If there is any dirt, corrosion, or rust it could cause a bad connection. You will also want to check where the light bracket mounts to the trailer. I have included a video below on testing for a ground. If your trailer has a large amount of lights (like running lights along the sides) then the power draw could be...

  • Since the 119176KIT (installation details linked below) gets the power for the lights directly for the vehicle battery, it does not require any power from the vehicle wiring. It only receives the signals from the vehicle wiring. However, the 119179KIT has a 4-Way flat style connector. The Roadmaster Deluxe Magnetic Tow Lights, # RM-2100, that you have referenced, uses a 4-Round type connector that is not compatible with a 4-Flat. There is no easy way to adapt the two to work together. The...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Staying On when Vehicle is Turned Off
  • It sounds as though there is a short or something is mis-wired. Using a circuit tester, like the Quickee # 3808, check the connection points in the vehicle side connector, to see if there is constant power on the running light circuit (brown wire on the 4-Way) when the vehicle and lights are turned off. There should be no signal when the lights are off, and a signal when they are on. If there is a signal with the lights off, then there is a problem on the vehicle side. Check to make...

  • Parts Needed to Install an Electric Trailer Brake Controller on a 2007 Nissan Titan or Frontier
  • If you have a 2007 Nissan Titan or Frontier and the truck has a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector all you will need is the brake controller and vehicle specific wiring harness. I recommend going with a proportional brake controller that engages the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the truck is breaking. This will reduce wear and tear on the truck and trailer and make for safer braking situations. For a proportional controller with wiring harness, I recommend the Tekonsha...

  • Adding In-Bed 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Trailer Wiring on a 2013 Dodge Ram 3500
  • For the 2013 Dodge Ram 3500, if the truck came with a factory 7-Way trailer connector (most of them do), then there are 2 options for adding in-bed 5th wheel/gooseneck trailer wiring. First, you can use # 41157. This connector plugs in line with the factory 7-Way just behind the connector at the back of the truck. Second you can use # PK11893-11932. This harness also plugs in line with the factory connector but requires a little manual hardwiring as well. The diagram for this is on the...

  • Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota Tundra with Factory Tow Package
  • Yes, the # 5100 and # 3040-P brake controller will work after the vehicle specific wiring adapter is wired to the brake controller wires and plugged in to the connector stored near the vehicles emergency brake pedal under the dash, if your Tundra has a factory installed hitch and 7-way connector. If your Tundra does not have the factory installed options the brake controller will have to be hard wired to the vehicle and you will have to run wires and install a 4-way connector, # 119179KIT...

  • Wiring a 2011 Victory Motorcycle and Trailer for Towing
  • For simplicity, I would recommend wiring the motorcycle trailer as a vehicle trailer would be. A powered converter wiring kit, like part # 119179KIT, would be connected to the motorcycle, which would provide a 4-pole trailer connector. The converter combines the brake lamp and the directional signal onto one circuit. The 4-pole connector utilizes four circuits, the white wire which is the ground, the green wire carries the right turn and brake light combined on one circuit, the yellow...

We do not have an installation video for one of these vehicles yet, however, I will include links to the .pdf instruction files. These are the same instructions that come with the hitch. • How To Wire a Harley Ultra Classic with a 5-Pole Round and a Trailer with a 4 Pole Flat
  • I am guess that you have a connector similar to the 5-Pole round like part # PK11502. If this is the case, you have two options. You can either remove the 5-Pole round from your Harley and put a 4-Pole flat in place, or you can cut the connector of your trailer and use a 5-Pole connector for the trailer. I imagine the 5-Pole on the bike is mounted pretty well, so I would suggest replacing the trailer connector with a 5-Pole using part # PK11501. Using a circuit tester, like part # 3808,...
