Today we're going to be taking at look at the Tow Ready upgraded circuit protected ModuLite with the four pole harness and hard wire kit. This unit is going to provide a four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights, and it's going to include everything that you need for a full installation. It's going to offer short circuit protection which is going to safeguard itself and the tow vehicle against harmful electrical shorts and miswire situations. It's going to virtually eliminate draw on the vehicle tail light circuit, so that's a great advantage to have with this system. The tail light circuit on this unit has been upgraded to work with vehicles using PWM which is pulse width modulation, allowing the converter to turn on fully giving the trailer maximum light brightness. This unit's going to power the trailer stop, turn, tail and running lights directory from the tow vehicle battery. It's going to prevent feedback from trailer to vehicle systems.
It can be used on two and three wire systems. Just keep in mind when used on a two wire system, the thin red wire which is going to be your brake wire, must be grounded. It's going to adapt a three wire system on the towing vehicle to a two wire system on your trailer. It will work on vehicle and trailers with either LED's, incandescent or standard bulb tail lights. It's also going to work with most vehicles that use a multiplex wiring system for lighting. Again, we're going to go over the components that it all includes.
When using this system, you're going to have a maximum amperage of 2.1 amps per side for the stop and turn lights and 5.6 amps for the tail lights. Included with the kit, you're going to get your four way connector. You can see we've got the wire bundled up here so that way you can extend the amount that you need out the back of your vehicle to make your connection to power your trailer signal lights. It's going to have the dust cap. That way we can protect the connection points when the connector is not being used. We can cover those up and that's going to help prevent any type of corrosion from settling into our connection terminals. The black box is going to be a converter box.
This is simply going to help avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. Then on this side, you're going to have all your wires. Your green wire is going to be for the passenger side turn signal. Your yellow wire is going to be for the driver's side turn signal. Your brown wire is going to be for your running lights.
The thin red wire is going to be for the brakes. The white wire with the ring terminal attached to it, this is going to be for your ground connection. Some vehicles that this unit will work with is going to have a grounding post in which you can slide this over the post and reinstall the hardware to make the ground connection. Some vehicles with not have that post. They include a self tapping screw so you can make that connection to a nice clean, metal surface. Then you're going to have your thick red wire. This is going to be your 12 volt power wire. It's going to connect to the bundled black wire here. This is going to be 20 feet of 12 gauge wiring. This is going to be the power wire that runs all the way to the vehicle battery. So the red wire is going to connect to the black wire using the included butt connector. It's also going to include a heat strength butt connector. Then you're going to have your fuse holder. Fuse holders are going to get cut right here in the middle. One end is going to connect to the other end of the black wire with the other butt connector. The other end of the wire is going to get one of the two ring terminals attached to it. That's going to connect to the positive post on the vehicle's battery. You're going to have a half inch ring terminal for side terminals and you're going to have a three eighth inch ring terminal for top terminals on the battery. You pick which one works best for your particular situation. You're also going to get the included 10 amp fuse. You're going to get some double sided adhesive tape. It's going to get applied to the back of the converter box here. That way you can stick it to a nice clean surface, keep it up and out of the way. Again, two butt connectors, two ring terminals. You're going to get five quick splice wiring connectors. This makes tapping into the wires quick and easy. Very simple system to use. You're going to get your grounding, self tapping screw and you're going to get your circuit tester. This is going to help find the wire functions behind the vehicle's tail lights to ensure that you are connecting everything correctly. Really nice system. Again, it's going to come complete with everything that you need for a full installation. They're even going to include some zip ties. That way you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring for a nice, clean appearance for your installation. I purchased this kit to install in my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. This wiring kit is just the ticket for getting your hitch up & running. You need a wire stripper/crimping tool, some black electrical tape, and definitely a creeper when you run the wire from the module to the battery. I would also recommend a set of trim removal pry bars as demonstrated in the eTrailer video. This kit installs easily, but take your time, especially when routing the wire to the battery. Make sure you protect the wire from the rough/sharp edges you WILL encounter! I wrapped electrical tape around the sharp edges and around the wire, should last a while. Also, use the included zip ties where necessary so it doesn't get hung up on something. To use the tester, ground it out (see pic) and come through the insulation at an angle instead of straight down (the lead will 'give' otherwise). I routed the battery wire through the rubber body plug, since there wasn't an easier way I could find. I will probably buy another plug and make a small cut for the wire to pass through later (a little silicone or rubber cement will seal it off). This kit might cost more than you might like to spend, but I highly recommend it for a proper and safe wiring job. 19791
Product arrive as promised very well packaged. They have good videos of installations for the BMW you are looking for. I installed on my 2007 BMW 328i Sedan. The product fit like a glove perfect and I only had to cut a little bit of the plastic cover underneath close to the exhaust. I had done the job my self with the car on jack stands on the rear only. If you are patient on the 2007 you don't even need to remove the rear bumper, there is enough space on this model to remove the bolts on the bumper from underneath the car. It is not easy but it is not terrible difficult. The good part is when the bolts are removed the etrailer hitch goes in like a glove, one person not much space the things just slid in. The piece is precise and made for a BMW is clearly a good product. I did buy one of their trailler lights package and it went without any problems, connecting signal left, signal right, tail light and brake light signals. Tested on the trailer and everything worked like it says. The best part is when the joint ball connection is removed the hitch is barely noticeable on the bimmer that is so cool, so can barely see a little square underneath the bumper, so your bimmer is still so cool looking. It was a lit bit more expensive than other offers, but with results on installing myself I can tell the product is really and they know what they are doing and offering and I didn't have to ask for help on anything, their videos give you all the information you need. 330339

I bought the trailer electrical kit on the same order as a Curt hitch for my 2014 VW Jetta Wagon. Both items arrived on time packed in the same box and in good shape. I will use the hitch and light hook up to tow a small sailing dingy. I watched the install videos for both products and I found them very accurate as well as helpful. The hitch was installed as planned in about an hour. The light hook up took a little longer as I had to jack up one whole side of my car for access running a power wire up to the battery. It does what you need. I'm about to purchase my third of these - so I must be happy with it. The first two were on my '94 F150. When towing a trailer that has more than just a single pair of stop-turn lights, you need a powered adapter to keep from "dimming out" the tail lights/signal lights on the truck. My first one failed after a few years (tail lights always on, even when the truck lights were off!) so I bought a replacement. It would be nice if they lasted the life of the vehicle, but that's just not the standard for aftermarket and towing electronics - presumably because we consumers are so cost-sensitive. Now I've sold that truck and bought a new Tacoma. After installing the "plug and play" adapter, I find the tail and clearance lights are bit dim (6 bulbs total on the trailer) and while the factory setup has enough power to power either turn signals, it can't do the emergency flashers. I WAS AMAZED AT THE SPEED OF DELIVERY. I HAVEN'T INSTALLED IT YET BECAUSE I AM ILL AND IT IS TOO COLD, BUT THE VIDEO MAKES IT SEEM EASY TO DO. This kit is very complete. It even includes a probe light so you can test for the correct wires before making the connections. The instructions, however, are another matter. They are very poor. Minimal, at best. Thankfully, etrailer has a some very nice videos showing how to install it on several different vehicles. My vehicle, a Cadillac SRX, is one that has a video, and it was very helpful to me with the install. I did have one issue, which I still haven't completely solved. The control box is so large that my tail light does not fit flush with the body like it did before the install. I had the tail light on and off several times to reposition the control box in an effort to improve the fit. It is better than initially, but not as good as it was before the install. The control box needs to be made smaller. Otherwise the kit works as it should. I gave it a good rating, because of the poor instructions and the impact on the fit of the tail light. 46411

Both the dealer and U Haul said they couldn't do a wire package for a 2013 Infiniti EX37. This kit worked just fine. Could have used instructions for the lighting adapter, but watching the video a couple of times and taking notes for which color did what seems to have worked. Delivery was quick. I'm only sorry I didn't take photos of the installation of the trailer wiring. I have to say, it was the easiest most enjoyable install I may have ever done of this kind. I'm not the handiest when it comes to this type of thing, but coupled with the complete wiring and hardware setup, it really made all the difference. The video that accompanied my specific vehicle also made a world of difference, major high marks for this. The only thing that may have helped was a bit longer wire for the passenger side (green) wire, but that's probably not even worth mentioning though I did. I'm putting together a tow package for hauling a light motorcycle trailer, so I figured I'd try this myself and I'm glad I did, great instructions make all the difference! These guys include everything right down to the wire ties and it's all top quality heavy gauge wire. Thanks again and I'll be using you guys for sure in the near future. Graham 240723

I bought the Draw-tite hitch and the Modulite wiring harness for my new 2013 KIA Soul and was overall very pleased with the service and the product ..... I'm glad I watched the installation videos when I ordered the items as I was unable to find them when I went back in to doublecheck a couple of details ..... the Modulite wiring harness did not come with any instructions at all ! And the hitch instructions didn't show the secret trick about lowering the muffler .... the videos were VERY helpful but I don't understand why I couldn't find them when I went back in ( admittedly, on a different computer ) to check .... This is a clever device that I never knew about but it isolates the trailer light load from the auto system, the auto only supplying low power signals to the trailer light controller. I suggest a bunch of YouTube viewing to see how this is installed, they are excellent. Also see your owners manual for a trailer power wire to the trunk. My Volvo has this as fuse #14, and can be traced to the right taillight area, very handy. This big (red) wire supplies the power for the "controller" to distribute correctly to the trailer plug when you signal or brake, etc. No running the new wire supplied under carpet, the car body or anywhere. It works as designed and is not hard to put in overall. 1 Hour You Tube, 1/2 hr. trunk guts removal, 15 min. detecting which wires with the little tester supplied, 1 hr. installing, 1hr. putting trunk guts back and checking all out. It's very small, didn't use the tie-wraps. 272044

I purchased this product so that I could tow a small sailboat trailer behind my '94 Civic coupe. After finalizing my order online, I realized I had made a mistake and needed to change my order. I called the customer service line and a human customer service representative resolved the issue within minutes. Service was friendly and excellent, and shipping was prompt. Since the harness fits multiple makes and models a reference manual (Haynes, Chilton, etc.) for your specific vehicle is recommended to review wiring diagrams and find suitable wire routes. Ample wire is provided, and the attachment hardware was more than sufficient to make installation clean and secure. First of all let me preface by stating the light kit came in 48hrs after ordering!! Now on to the juicy stuff. I installed this light kit on a 1998 Honda Civic. Connecting the turning signals wires was a snap (haha) Now the brake lights on-the-other hand is another story. I didn't have any help when installing the harness so when i needed to find the brake light wire I used a baseball bat to wedge into the brake pedal to keep the signal while I probed to find the wire. Good idea right? well it was until i left the bat in place when i went to snap the brake light wire to the wire in the harness.... I blew the fuse on the car... But after 2 phone calls to etrailer tech support we tracked down the issue, 1 fuse later it all works great!! tip: have at least 1 other person to help 10448

Trailer lights ...well what can you say...they never work. BUT I have a 2001 Cadillac Deville that I needed trailer lights on . Late on a SATURDAY NIGHT I serfed the internet for a solution . I googled "2001 Cadillac Deville trailer lights" and found an etrailer site . On it was a guy installing a light kit on MY CAR. It looked easy enough. I ordered the kit. It came on MONDAY....yes... 2 days....and one was Sunday. The installation was exactly like on the video on the website. The hitch installation went better than could be expected. Thirty minutes or so and I had the hitch installed. The wiring kit for my 04 Volvo XC70 was a little different story. I had read that the Volvo's had a towing package connector near the spare tire. I found it but was curious about what pin went where, A check of the web revealed that all the wire signals were there and already were buffered with relays and fused. I thought long and hard about using the wiring kit but decided to use it anyway. Once I had all the wiring figured out the rest was easy. The customer service person (Rebecca) really knew her stuff and was great to work with. The shipping was fast and it met all my expectations. You can't go wrong with etrailer. 86760
Product delivered very quickly, as described. I found no installation instructions included but after a call to etrailer I was directed to a link where I could print my own copy of the installation instructions. This kit was going on a Infiniti EX35. Access to the inside area behind the tail lights was a mystery and not wanting to damage or break anything in the process, I opted to have my Infiniti dealer install the after market parts. The installation took the technician around 2.5 hours, mostly to disassemble and reassemble the back of the car. The wiring part is easy. This was not cheap, but it's done and works fine. This would be a good car for etrailer to do an installation profile on for the skilled DYIer. 126836
The product works well. I just pull a 4x8 trailer with my car. I ran the 12v supply under the car as I thought it easier. I had plenty of wire. I ran any exposed wire though tubing that I glued to the bottom of the car. I had all the parts,clips,connectors needed to complete the job. The only thing that I tought could be improved was the instructions. at least the portion for installin the wiring to the automobile. I just states to follow the instructions and really, you had to read the front of the module to know which wire went where. Excellent customer support. Quality of the installation video was also excellent. Regarding the product, I was a bit surprised at the wire harness length that connects to the trailer is designed to be pulled out of the back of the car and the rear hatch closed down on it (appears rinky-dink) rather than routed under the car and mounted to the hitch, but I think I will get used to it. Also, a nice touch would have been to include the grommet and clamps recommended in the video in the kit for a few more dollars. Unless you view the complete video prior to placing your order, you end up needing to improvise along the way when installing the product. 167492
Compact well designed product I really like the module as it is very compact, well labelled, and works very well. I was missing the tester in the kit but had my own. There were no instruction either. The wires are labelled so well you really don't need instructions in most cases. The only problem I had was hooking up the Stop lights on my 06 Jetta. I connected to the Black/Red wire (which is Tail lights and Brake) and did not work. I came back to the etrailer web site and found an Expert note on how to hook the brake wire to the ground. I did this and now works perfectly. I recommend this product to anyone with a volkswagon Jetta. 3272

Bought this kit for my 04 WRX because it does not have any trailer wiring harness. Install was a sinch, especially for anyone somewhat knowledgable with automotive experience. Just pulled back the trunk lining and tapped into my tailights. As for the big wire you have to run to the battery, i suggest you take the time and pull your interior trim out and run it inside the vehicle and throught the firewall, dont just ziptie it up under the car. Works exactly as its said to, already have made two trips with my trailer and all lights have been in perfect working order. This kit worked great on our 2011 Nissan Quest. There wasn't a T-Connector kit available for the 2011 Quest so I had to go with this universal kit. ETrailer provided everything needed including the LED probe which made identifying the proper wires easy. FYI - I was able to easily identify the power feed for the OEM Nissan wiring harness that the dealer would sell you. I was able to feed the 119176KIT with that feed by installing a 10amp fuse in the vehicle fuse box. That allowed me to avoid running a direct power feed from the battery which can be a pain. Everything I needed to make the installation was there. The bolt leader worked like a charm and saved a ton of time. Completely installed the hitch in about 30 minutes. I was glad I had looked at the video on how to install. Wiring took several hours because of trying to run the wire from the battery to the modulite unit because I wanted to hide the wiring under interior moldings and make everything look very nice. The little test light in the kit was helpful and everything tested out very well. Very pleased with the quality of the hitch, the wiring kit, etc. 49233
First off I highly recommend eTrailer.com as they have been very helpful and informative with the whole purchase process and has products for vehicles that are hard to fit. Had the Volkswagen dealer install this in my 2012 Jetta Sportswagen as it is a more complicated than any wiring harness I have ever installed and wanted it done right as it could affect the electronics. Kit works as advertised. Bulbs all burn BRIGHTLY. Not like before when wired directly to the car lights. Also, and this is big, I think this unit acts as an isolator so if there are any faults in the trailer wiring you wont blow the ECM for your car. The ECM is very expensive to replace. One criticism: make the hook-up wires about 15" longer. My Subaru has no external wiring that is easy to get to. Also make the black battery wire about 15" longer (2003 Subaru Legacy Wagon - has NO external trailer hook-up like the Outback model). 17818

I bought the kit and installed it yesterday. It took about 3 and when I finished, it didn't work. I started checked voltage and eventually discovered that a poor ground was causing it not to work. First I grounded it to the a strip of metal reinforcing on the bed of the truck. When I changed it to the frame, it seems to be working now. Maybe this info will save someone some time. Very easy to install trailer wiring conversion kit. It even includes a test light to make things easier! Most of the connection points were fairly easily accessible (2006 Volvo V70). Big hands in small places is always a challenge. But it beats $600 for the Volvo-installed version! This one replaces one I installed in early 2006. I'm not sure what burned up over the six years, but the electronics work all the time, not just when the trailer is connected, so I didn't feel bad replacing the old one. 29473

My package may have been missing an instruction sheet. Nothing in the package told me which wire from the module was for left turn signal, etc. I was able to get that from watching one of the installation videos that are with the product description on the web site. My installation was probably easier than most, because my 2004 LeSabre has the battery under the back seat. The thing I like most about it is that I know whatever trailer I might hook up to, it won't blow any tow vehicle fuses. 179408

I bought the trailer hitch for a 2001 bmw after checking with a local installer and he said his price was $140 dollars more than what I would pay online. This excluded his install price. The id item number was the same as his so I ordered it. Installation was as described on the directions and video. It took about an hour but had to go buy a special narrow socket wrench to tighten the back two nuts hidden behind the bumper. Very well made, thick metal plates and strong enough for my towing needs. 36758

This was easy to install. It took longer to get the panel off inside my trunk to access the wires than it did to install this. The one thing the directions did not specify (but was answered on etrailer.com) was what to do with the "STOP" wire since my 2006 Jetta did not have a separate brake light. According to an answered question on the website, you connect the "STOP" wire to ground. Once I did this, it worked perfectly. I've only had it on for a day, but I'll update this if it has issues. 21708

A very nice and complete kit. Got this for a 2001 Civic. I'm fairly picky about how I wire things, so I upgraded to glue-lined heat shrink terminals for all connections. Don't be afraid to read the directions and pay attention to your wires and this is a snap to install. Also, a little dielectric grease in the quick splices is never a bad idea. Only con for this is the circuit tester, I already have a good one and wish I had the option of not getting something I'll end up throwing away. 36507

I wanted to pull a small trailer behind my VW Eos and the dealer said that vw had no wiring harness for my car. I found e trailer and found what I needed. The online video of an instalation along with the kit having all the items I needed made the job easier since I got to see what to do. Great kit. I've installed many hitches and wiring harnesses. This is a great kit with absolutely everything you need. The wiring guide is on the unit making installation easy and future use a snap without having to find the instruction manual. It's a must have product for vehicles with LED tailights, or any time you don't want to compromise your vehicle lighting system with lots of trailer lights because it uses a seperate power source. Fast Service I have recently bought wiring harness with the trailer hitch for my husband's new 2011 KIA Sportage as a xmas gift. The Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardware Kit- Includes Testers- 119176 KIT was as advertised. The included directions were not enough but the online site helped a great deal. Price was less than locally available. Could use a stronger discription of 2 bulb or 3 bulb installation and car modles for each. With 2 bulb system be sure to leave the red wire grounded even after all work is done. 40758

The install was a breeze with the exception of the wire that is run to the battery. The video shows the wire being run through the front of the vehicle and I did not have enough wire to do this. So, I ran the wire through the back of the firewall. Not sure if the wire will hold up to the heat of some of these hoses. I will keep checking it for the first few months to ensure it has not melted. All in all, you cant beat the price! 53089

This kit made the wiring installation pretty simple, and it comes with most all of the hardware you will need. If I have one complaint, it is that the crimps for the power wire are a bit unreliable and I ended up using some of my own. On the upside, the instructions are easy to understand, and an LED tester helps you to easily identify which wire on your vehicle corresponds to which signal. 20517
Needed trailer light "booster" for 2007 Volvo XC70 so the lights wouldn't short circut the "burned out bulb" system. Lookup tool took me to the right product and it worked as advertised. I'm sorry I didn't use this kind of "booster" for all my vehicles over the years as the trailer lights are now very bright and visable since they run directly off the battery. Item worked great, took some extra time to hook up but well worth it. The hardest part was routing the power wire to the battery and insuring that it cleared all moving and hot parts. I ran mine inside of a plastic conduit that I bought at a auto parts store for around 6 dollars for 15 feet. It just made me feel that it was better protected inside of the conduit. 61069

Product delivered onetime and in great shape. The "how to" videos on attaching the trailer hitch and the trailer wiring harness made for an easy install. Very thorough. Just one comment to note: the green wire going to the passenger side was about 12" short. Had to splice. That being said…very pleased with these products and the finished look. Thanks. 181815

I rated the product less than excellent because the first module I received was defective causing the trailer lights to occasionally function but mostly, they did not work. I contacted eTrailer and was promptly sent a new module. I installed the new unit and the trailer lights now function perfectly. Thanks eTrailer- great customer service job. 77749

Bought this harness along with a hitch. This wiring harness was easy to install but the instructions could have been a little clearer. The color of one wire in the harness was misstated in the instructions. Once installed, it worked perfectly and only took about an hour and a half. 83368
