Specs:

Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath your vehicle, near the rear driver's-side tire. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, insert the provided fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2013 Kia Sorento

All right today on this 2013 Kia Sorento, we are going to install part number 118541. One quick note before we start, we did do this before installing the hitch to make things a little easier to see. Our first step is to go ahead open up the back hatch and remove the driver side tail light, there will be a couple of screws we have to remove and then we can go ahead and remove the taillight, you pull back, straight back and it will unseat from the other snaps. Alright with our tail light loosened up, we will go ahead and push in a tab right here that will disconnect the wire harness from the taillight. Next we will go ahead and remove the plastic push pin as closest to the tail gate weather strip. Right now we can go ahead and start installing the T-1 harness.

We are going to show it on the outside of the vehicle first. Our wire harness is going to hang from the inside as shown here. The four pole wire will actually get wired closer to the center of the vehicle and then wires the plug into the factory tow ports, underneath it will be wired towards the side of the vehicle. We will go ahead and push them in one side at a time and run wires in as far as possible. Again underneath the vehicle, we will go ahead and pull them out.

To help get the wire pulled out we actually use a piece of stiff wire and with the hook on the end to help pull out. We will pull out a full pull wire first and then we will go ahead and pull out the wires to the other side that will go to the factory port. Alright now we will go back to the top and install the module to the existing reinforcing bracket. The module is going to be mounted to the original place where we had the plastic push pin that we removed. Now we are going to need to pull back the fascia a little bit more to give it some more room to work it in there, so we are going to remove the remaining plastic push pin and the screw that is located behind the taillight.

That will give us enough flexibility to work it into place. We what we need to do is push down behind the plastic, again the module with the built in lug nut, you just catch it on the finger and kind of work it underneath there and then install the new bolt. We will go ahead and tighten down the bolt and then reinstall the plastic push pin and just screw it behind on the taillight. Then we will go ahead and reinstall our taillight. All right now lets go ahead underneath the vehicle and go ahead and run our wires.

We will take our four pole wire, run it to the center of the bumper, and keep it out of the way until the hitch is installed. We will go over to the driver side where the factory tow port is located. Number two plugs, we will go ahead and remove the caps. Again there is a small button that we have to push in the caps will release. Then we will match just match it to the T connectors from the bar harness and plug them back into the ports. With that, it will finish it for install. Now we will go ahead and use a test light to go ahead and check the wires to make sure everything is working. We will go ahead and take our test light, and ground it to the ground pin on the four pole connector, and we will test the ground wire first for running lights, and then green for right turn, and yellow for left turn, and then we will have someone hold the brake down, and we will check for left and right turn for a constant signal. Okay, with that it will finish it for our install of part number, 118541 from Tow Ready on our 2013 Kia Sorento.

This appears to be an excellent product. However it was not possible to install it as per the instructions. The instructions were for a 2013 Kia Sorento. I was installing it in a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. While these two vehicles are very similar, they are not identical. Specifically, the electrical connectors all mated up properly, but the Hyundai does not have anywhere near the space available below the driver's side rear taillight assembly to house the converter module. It is a much smaller space than what appears in the Kia photos. I mounted the module in a different location.79222

I spoke with two Kia dealers over several days, and even stopped in to explain what I needed for my 2013 Sorento and couldn't get what e-trailer provided in a matter of minutes. Looking up what I needed was easy, ordering was easy, and the follow up emails from e-trailer were fantastic to let me know my order had been placed, shipped, and delivered. You've got my highest recommendation.78820

Worked perfectly. The instructions and video were accurate and helpful. As noted in these, it is a snug fit under the taillight, but it fit. Most places I checked wanted to charge around $40 for a splice in harness and $70 for the install. With this, no splicing so you don't have to worry about taillights not working/shorting, you save money and it just plugs in to the existing wiring. Great product!63563

You would swear it was made by KIA! The video was a big help. Fits 2013 KIA, but the electronic box goes in a little harder than video shows and it can not be bolted to bumper like in video. Package says "not for LX" but it has the same part number as the one for the LX, and it worked! Love it.63561

Everything worked and fit great from the trailer hitch to the wiring harness. Excellent delivery time and NO tax or shipping. What more could you ask for? Also, the video for installation on the order page is a tremendous idea. It helped me select which hitch I wanted and wiring too.Didn't even need the instructions after viewing the video. Definitly recommend. 63167

Works fine but unnecessarily difficult to install. Why is it necessary to mount the box in the taillight void when all the connections are underneath the vehicle? If the box were weatherproof and could be secured underneath, all the work could be done in less than 10 minutes instead 45 minutes.61854

I bought this hoping that the 2012 Sorento we have was prewired for installation. Everyone from Kia said that it wasn't but I could see a wiring setup to plug into. Turns out, it is prewired. The only thing I had to find was a bolt that would work to set up the ground wire. I connected the ground wire to a bolt near the light. Etrailer prices were great and delivery was very quick. Highly recommended. 59147

This is a plug-n-play installation. Only problem I had was in squeezing the control box into the alotted space. I removed an extra fastener and that gave the fascia enough play that the box slid right in. I was done in under 15 minutes. 55924

Very easy to install, plugged right into the pre-wired plugs. Use a small rope to fish module through body. The smaller plug could use about 1 inch more of wire at the end to make plugging easier.46147

Outstanding!!! My Sorento had the trailer plugs near the roadside rear tire and a fuse in the trailer slot of the engine compartment fuse box. I didn't test the wiring... But ordered the harness anyway. Installation was a breeze. Instructions were accurate and easy to follow. Everything lit up nicely. I purchased the short bracket and 4 flat connector mount. When I was all done it looked like it could have been a factory install. Very clean look. I love it! Thank you etrailer!!!!!41785

Before ordering I looked under my Sorento LX V6 AWD to see if I had the two plugs attached by the left frame rail behind the rear wheel to see if I had the tow prep already there. Fortunately for me they were there and I proceeded to order with kit along with the Curt 13073 receiver. Both items arrived in just a couple days and were well packaged. I was a little concerned when I looked at the light kit blister pack as the label said "2011+ Sorento (except LX)" as that is exactly what I had. However once I began the installation I was pleased to see that because I had the tow prep already that this kit would work just fine. Installation was super simple although did require some minor fenangling to get the control unit in place under the left taillight. It took about 10-15 minutes to get it installed and ziptie the trailer wire along the back side of the receiver frame. The two connectors mated up nicely to the OEM tow prep connectors under the car and the flat 4 trailer connector with its integrated cap reaches the hitch area nicely. I should mention that the trailer wire is a little on the short side so if the wire on the trailer you are towing is also on the short side you may need to use an extension. Prime example, I went to hookup a little uhaul utility trailer and an extension harness was needed. I just keep the extension in the bag with the ball mount and pin when not in use.40336

Easy install and works well with 2011 Sorento SX. I was very skeptical as to what I should buy after reading forums, reviews on other sites, etc. The shipping was super fast and everything was exactly as described. And, NO, you do not have to run a separate power wire with LED tailights. Just plugged them in to the factory plugs on the frame rail. Took me about :30 mins start to finish.21569
