Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2011 Kia Sorento

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2011 Kia Sorento

Today, on a 2011 Kia Sorento, were going to install part number 118506 from inaudible. First thing well do is were going to remove the two tail lights. Well remove two screws here and here. To disconnect the harness, first inaudible the right here, and pull the part. Well put those aside and repeat the same process over on the passengers side. The next thing well do is remove this plastic ring right here.

That fastener will not be reused. Well take the wire harness dropped between the body work and the body. That will be the same thing with our T-connector with the red wire. Alright. Next, were going to go ahead and test our black wire that come from the kit to our red wire here and this eventually get run to the front of the vehicle to the battery.

Then well take the black wire and do the same thing with other wires. Well inaudible through here and pull the wires down. inaudible and test the module. The module has a bracket with a threaded hole in the end and inaudible hardware into it inaudible main fasteners that allows to cool and to face you back a little bit more so you can run the module underneath. Well put the two fasteners back in, now Ill take the white wire inaudible terminal and inaudible to the body.

Now well take the wire harness, plug it into the factory wire harness, snap it together and then well go ahead and install the inaudible. Then well take the wire harness and well run it behind the support for the bumper cover then down to our hitch. With the red and green wire, were actually going to run it above the bumper bracket over to this wire thats a little bit on the short side. Then were going to run a piece of tubing and well use that to help pull the wire over the bumper bracket. Then well run it the same way to the passengers side. So when you run the wire direct to rout as possible because theres very little leftover.

Theyre going to be attached to the wire harness thats attached to the tail light. Now were going to run the black wire and roll it up to the front of the car and to the battery. Make sure it stays away from anything thats moving or anything that gets hot like the exhaust. And when you run it to the engine compartment, the same thing applies as you run it to the battery. Well run the wire to the inaudible side of the battery well be attaching it to this terminal here so well cut our wire short .

Prroduct arrived within a week. The installation videos were a tremendous help. I installed the hitch myself and use 2 hydraulic bottle jacks to raise the hitch, which is quite heavy, into position until I was able to thread a bolt in on each end. After getting the unit suspended on 2 bolts, I was able to center the hitch side to side, install the last 2 bolts and use the jacks to raise the hitch firmly to the car frame so I could snug the boltsup. I used a short piece of 2x4 to wedge between the muffler and auto frame to give room to get a socket wrench on the last bolt to tighten it. The muffler only needed to be shoved out of the way slightly. No need to remove ot from its hangers. It would be easier to install with a helper but not difficult by myself. No need to cut bumper. Wiring was a challeng only because of difficulty of getting it threaded up the passenger side fender. You need a skinny flexible length of whatever u have to push down thru the fender till it exits below. Then tape your wire harness to it and wrestle it up to the light. I chose to route the power cable thru the car interior and that was a chore. Easier to route under car but more exposed to elements and damage. I found one wire under the dash that penetrated the firewall and was able to punch the power line thru its rubber boot seal with an awl that got the power cable into the engine compartment. The connection to the batter was easy. I recommend this hitch for the DIYer. 75443

A year ago we purchased a hitch from etrailer, and also a curt wiring harness. After the curt harness failed, and etrailer sent me another one which ultimately failed (both times the right brake signal light stuck on, and would wigwag flash against the left when the left signal was used), I decided that maybe a different brand harness would be a wiser choice, but winter came and I didn't need it as we'd missed the camping season. I recently ordered this T-One unit, and found it to be much bulkier than the curt unit, but the circuit was split differently, and it felt all around much sturdier. It works great, and I look forward to hopefully getting many years of use out of it. It will be nice being able to go camping this year as a family. So looking forward to it, and the service that etrailer has provided has been second to none as always, and if you own a Kia Sorento, I would recommend the T-One unit. 133770

Perfect fit! I just installed today and working so far. I say that because I had installed a curt harness and only lasted a month. Unfortunately I purchased it on ebay and didn't bother trying to contact them. I'm trusting you that if I have problems I can call. Thanks for quick delivery!! 40980

I had the same problem with the Curt harness. The first one was messed up the second day on the job, and now the second one is bad two months down the line, and I havent even had the trailer connected to it. Im taking the trailer across country in two weeks. Im going to junk the the Curt module, and buy this one. E-trailer has been great, they sent the replacement right away after the first, but Ive had enough, no more Curt products for me. Im not going to try for a 3rd strike. Especially when I know the problem isnt a result of the trailer. The curt modules just dont do it, and even despite the excellent service from E-trailer, I really dont want to have to keep crawling under my Sorento to remove the box every six months!

The hitch installed in about half an hour on a hydraulic lift. There is a good inch between the hitch and the muffler. The wiring took over two hours hiding all the wires. It could be done in less than an hour if i had to do it again. 16060

Item arrived in 4 days. All parts fit as advertised. Hardest part of installation was routing wires through the chasis, as there are some tight spots around the tail lights. While the installation video was helpful, I think some more video under the car for routing the wires would have been helpful. Installation took about two hours because of some trial and error. Overall it was not too hard of an installation. Dealer wanted $575 to install wiring and hitch on my 2012 Sorento. By installing myself, the cost was roughly $240 for the hitch and wiring assembly. The cost difference will pay for the utility trailer I have been looking to buy. Thanks etrailer for a good experience. 111359

This installation went mostly okay. Everything plugged into place as described. I agree with some other comments on this forum that if you follow the installation instructions exactly, there isn't enough wire to reach the passenger side lights. I ended up running mine right behind the bumper hugging the rear door seal. That made it work out just right. The real bear of the installation was running the power supply up to the battery. I had trouble with this and am not 100% satisfied that it looks professional. That one part took 70% of the time to install. 15070

Installation of hitch and full wiring harness went smoothly. No issues that others had mentioned, didn't have to drill out frame or cut away at center of bumper. Also, had plenty of wire, didn't have to splice any additional...trick was to hug the inside of bumper. Watching videos helped to simplify the installation, along with a little patience. Toughest part was to fish the wiring up through the passenger side tail light opening, bent coat hanger worked well. Would strongly recommend etrailer, price was reasonable and installation straightforward. 35562

I did not have enough wire to connect to the passenger side tail light without more disassembly of my new vehicle than I really wanted to perform. l-added jumper inline with the wiring-potential ground point. Also, in order to allow more room for the installation I made up the butt connector for the battery positive wire before mounting the harness behind the driver's side tail light. Running to the battery was fine, not professional by any means but should work. Maybe some mounts and adhesive would help to make it more professional. Works as described. 15283

Received my hitch for my 2013 Kia Sorento in about three days after placing my order. Everything was there and in good shape. The delivery company did a job on the box but the merchandize was fine. Only question is the instructions for the $72.00 wiring harness were a little shy on instructions but I think I can figure them out. Would be nice to see more info in the installation of the wiring harness. Your employee Gail was very helpful and efficient and I will give your company a 9 our of 10. Keep up the good work. 98835

I can't believe how easy etrailer makes the installation of the products. I love the videos that show you how to install the product on your vehicle. Very easy to install both the hitch and wiring. Product shipped on time. I even received an email at 1:00 am saying the product had shipped, which was only a couple hours after I ordered it. I would definitely order from this company again. Right prices and awesome service. Great Job guys. 47976

This product installed perfectly and components all fit well, just as advertised. Being a novice, I followed a U-tube video or I may have had slight difficulty. All the lights check out perfectly. Supplied lengths were plenty adequate and did not require stretching it thin or working on extremely taught wires. I am impressed. 90056

The last one I installed lasted only two years.the best part was etrailer fast delivery and great service thanks! 127325

The harness was simple in nature to install. The hardest part was fishing the wires behind the bumper and running the negative to the front of the truck. It took over an hour to do bc of tight spaces and trying to figure out where to run everything. I could probably cut 30 mins off if I had to do it again. 48852

Ordered for a 2011 kia sorento, overall easy install, but a bit time consuming. Control box was a tight squeeze to fit in the space and running a power line to the battery was a task. But in the end it makes for a very solid and clean install. Probably took about an hour and a half to run all the cables. 18596

The wiring that runs from the drivers side to the passenger side is short. There is an alternative path, but it is difficult to reach without small hands. I would suggest either making the wiring a little longer 5 inches? or more clearly showing the alternative path. 77036

Product was as advertised, and as they mention in the video, you do not have very much play went you string it over to the passenger side. Took me a few times till I got enough to hook up. Other than that, awesome product, great site and excellent customer service! 120891

Very easy to install once you figure out how to run the power to the battery. Other than that everything went well. I ended up following the brake lines from the rear to the under the hood area. Get a lot of zip ties to make sure everything stays snug. 42537

Tight fit behind the lighting assembly. Someone should note "exactly" where to route the wires as there are two choices down in the body panels. One leaves the wires too short, one is just right....... I routed wires twice.... no big deal. 35753

If your Sorento was equipped with the factory tow package, you would use the # 118269 you referenced. If your vehicle does not have the factory tow package, then the connectors you located under the vehicle are most likely not active, and you would need to use # 118506, which would plug inline with the factory wiring harness feeding...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch for a 2011 Kia Sorento to Carry a Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier
  • In order to use the MaxxTow carrier, # MT70106, you will need a Class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver. The most popular Class III hitch for your 2011 Kia Sorento is # 87574. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. The hitch has as tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds so the combined weight of the carrier and the cargo loaded on it cannot exceed 350 pounds or the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle, whichever is lower. If...

  • Is the Power Wire Needed for Custom Wiring on a 2011 Kia Sorento and is there a 5-Flat Adapter
  • The wiring harness for your 2011 Kia Sorento is the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118506, and it comes with the power wire. It is necessary to install the power wire because the converter requires power directly from the battery in order to distribute that power to the harness and protect your vehicles sensitive wiring. This harness can be used with an adapter for your 5-flat trailer connector. You will need the Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 20036. The included...

  • Will The Hidden Hitch Class III Hitch Fit 2011 KIA Sorento SX
  • Our representative at Hidden Hitch has confirmed in the past that the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch for the 2011 Kia Sorento, part # 87574 will fit the 2011 Kia Sorento SX models. Our Draw-Tite representative has also confirmed in the past that the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 75684, will also fit the SX model. However, both part # 87574 and part # 75684 will not fit the SX models that have dual exhaust, or an exhaust tip on the driver side and the passenger side. This does not mean...

  • Differences Between Hitch Options and Recommendations for 2013 Kia Sorento
  • All the hitches available for your 2013 Sorento have the same 3500 lb towing/350 lb tongue weight capacity. Although they're designed a bit differently, in my opinion none of the hitches would have a strength or quality advantage over another. All the hitches, the Hidden Hitch # 87574, Draw-Tite # 75684 and the Curt # C13073 would be partially visible under the back bumper, but most feel that the round tube Curt # C13073 looks better. None of the hitches would be a fit for vehicles with...

  • Tips for Routing Trailer Wiring Harness Power Wire to Battery on a 2011 Kia SOrento
  • Wire loom is not necessary but it can be used to protect the wire. You can get a 10 foot long section # 7509-10. You would likely need more than 10 feet though. Routing the wire on any vehicle is a matter of preference. There are basically 3 ways to do it: under the vehicle exposed, under the vehicle not exposed or partially exposed, and through the vehicle interior. I have included a link to the right to a help article I wrote with tips on routing the power wire.
