Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Nissan Frontier

Today in our 2012 Nissan Frontier, we'll be installing the tow ready T1 connector part number 118263. First, we'll need to locate the manufacturer's plug located on the inside of the drivers side frame rail. As you can see here, there are two plugs. We are going to remove the cap off the gray plug. Now with the cap removed we can go ahead and take our new inaudible harness and plug it directly into the manufacturer's wiring. As we install our plug we'll make sure, we have it firmly pressed into the connector and locked in place.

Now with the plug installed we can go ahead and run our wire over to the center of the hitch and secure it with some black zip ties. All right now with our wires secured we'll just go ahead and take our side cutters and cut back the excess in the zip ties. Now this will complete the install of our new tow ready T1 connectors part number 118263 on our 2012 Nissan Frontier.

The part that I purchased is good. The harness fits and seem to be very good quality. My Exterra had the connector in the back to plug into. I thought that this harness was all I needed to make a connection to a trailer. After connecting the harness I only had turn and break lights. I did not have running lights. I needed to purchase a receiver hitch tow harness kit from nissan (part # 999T8-N5005). This kit includes the relays that are needed to safely run the running lights on this car. Wiring into the running lights as a shortcut can cause damage to the computer. 15330

CAN U RUN THE PLUG WITH OUT [RUNNING LIGHTS ].OR WILL IT DAMAGE THE SYSTEM. AND WHAT WAS THE COST OF THE RELAY KIT FROM NISSAN $$

If all you are missing is the running light function, you will need one additional relay to activate the running lights. That single relay is part 38666-1

I received my Hidden Hitch and OEM wiring harness for a 2012 Nissan Frontier faster than expected as I took advantage of the free shipping. The hitch bolted right in place with no difficulties and the wiring harness fit correctly. I haven't had a chance to use either as yet but I'm confident everything will work as expected. When I purchased my new truck it was the truck salesman who recommended etrailer to me and I am glad he did.79528

Ask the Experts about this Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Installing T-1 Harness, Part # 118263 on 2005 Xterra Without Tow Package
  • In order to use the T-1 Harness, part # 118263 on an Xterra without the factory tow package, in addition to the relay, you will also need the jumper harness. The harness is a dealer supplied part. Once you purchase the T-1, the relay, and the jumper harness you will have spent quite a few dollars, when you could purchase the Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 43605. You would spend a bit more time installing it, but it would probably be less expensive.

This is a circuit protected converter that draws most of the power needed by the trailer from the vehicle battery rather than through the tail light wiring. I have included a link to the installation details and a video showing a typical installation for you to view.

The truck you are looking at should already have a factory 4-way if its says it is pre-wired and you should not need this product.

  • Providing 12-volt Accessory Circuit on a 2009 Nissan Frontier to Maintain a Trailer-Mounted Battery
  • Which trailer connector does the trailer use? Typically a 7-way connector is used on a trailer in the event that the trailer requires additional circuits other than the directionals, brake lights and running lights provided by the 4-pole connector. If the trailer has a 4-pole connector, the correct way to provide a 12-volt circuit to maintain the battery would be to remove the existing 4-pole connector from the trailer, and replace it with a 7-way like part # HM48500. This will determine if the problem is in the truck or the trailer. If there is not voltage on the brown wire I would recommend that you check the connection of the # 118263 to your 2011 Nissan Frontier.
