Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Jeep Liberty's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your Jeep Liberty, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your Jeep Liberty's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your Jeep Liberty operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your Jeep Liberty's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Today on our 2005 Jeep liberty well be installing the Tow Ready T1 connector part #: 118524. Our first step, well need to open up the rear cargo door. This will allow us to access the two fasteners on each side securing the taillight assemblies. Starting here on the passenger side well go ahead and remove the two fasteners and then the taillight assembly. Be careful when prying the taillight assembly away from the body of the vehicle not to break the alignment tabs as you can see here. Next well go ahead and remove the manufacturers wiring from the taillight assembly.

First using the leverage of a flat bladed screwdriver well go ahead and unlock the red locking tab. Then pressing on the connector lock remove it from the taillight assembly. Now well go ahead and move over to the driver side and repeat the same process of removing the two fasteners and then the wiring connector. You can also remove the wire hold down and go ahead and set the taillight assembly aside as were going to do here. Now were ready to go ahead and start making connections with our new T1 connector.

Taking the brown and yellow wire were going to feed it up from underneath the vehicle between the bumper cover and the sheet metal of the vehicle. This will allow us to put it up behind the driver side taillight assembly and go ahead and make connection with the manufacturers wire. Now we can go ahead and get underneath the vehicle and start routing our wires. With our wiring underneath the vehicle well go ahead and take the black wire provided with the install kit, that will be our wire fed from our battery to our converter box. Using the Yellow but connector supplied with the install kit we can go ahead and strip back both the red wire from the converter box and the black wire from our install kit and use the but connector to connect the two.

Next, we need to mount our converter box. To do this well peal back the cover of the two sided adhesive and adhere it to a clean flat piece of sheet metal. Up behind the bumper cover against the body of the vehicle is a flat piece of sheet metal we can adhere to. Now with that done well go ahead and take our white wire with the preformed ring terminal, run it over to the frame using a self-tapping screw provided with our install kit and secure it for our ground. Now were ready to go ahead and start routing our wires.

When routing your wires youll need to be mindful of excessive heat such as the exhaust or moving components such as the steering or suspension. Well go ahead and take four pole over to the center of the vehicle down to the hitch and our green wire well follow the four pole over the top of the hitch to the passenger side up behind the passenger side taillight assembly just as we did here on the driver side. Next well go ahead and take some longer black zip ties and secure the wires to the hitch. Now to clean up my install look Ill go ahead and take a pair of side cutters and cut off the excess from the zip ties. Next we need to start routing our black power wire to the engine compartment. To do this were going to use a piece of pull wire to rout our power wire through the frame. For this application Ill be using a piece of air tube or airline. You can also use a stiff piece of wire, it works just as well. Now that Ive routed through the frame as far as I can go Im going to add a wire loom here to run my wire too away from the exhaust and then up into the engine compartment. Now were ready to go ahead and pull our power wire up into the engine compartment. Again, well be using our black zip ties to secure our wire as we rout it over to the positive battery terminal. Next well go ahead and cut off the excess wire as we need to add our fuse holder. To prepare our fuse holder well go ahead and cut it half, stripping back both sides and the end of our power wire. Now we can go ahead and add a ring terminal to one side and the but connector to the other. Then well take the other end of our but connector and patch it to our black power wire. Once again, Ill go ahead and use some black electric tape to wrap up this connection point. Now we can go ahead and rout the fuse holder over to the positive battery terminal and make our connection. With that done well go ahead and take a couple of black zip ties to secure our fuse holder to the manufacturers wiring. To clean up my install look once again Ill go ahead and clip off the excess from my zip ties. Now were ready to go ahead and install our fuse into the fuse holder. Well be using the blue 15 Amp fuse provided with our install kit. With that done we can go ahead and put the cap on our fuse holder and this will complete the installation of our Tow Ready T1 connector part #: 118524 on our 2006 Jeep Liberty.

My experience with etrailer.com was a great one. The sales rep. Rebecca N. was so delightful and knowledgeable. She walked me through the entire process right down to installation. Installing the hitch and wiring harness was simple. Thank you Rebecca and etrailers.com! I will refer and do business with etrailer.com in the future. 62365

It seems bizarre that you write a review about somebody doing exactly what they said they would do for you. Well, my experience has been horrible with customer service in the last 5 years. Then along comes e-trailer. I ordered the part and it shipped the same day. I had a confirmation email letting me know what part was on the way along with the tracking info. I had an email letting me know it was delivered to my house. Installation was a snap with best directions I have used in a long time. This was a great experience and it was handled with best customer service experience in years. Thank you e-trailer.51088

Plugged right in! Couple quirks, needed a Torex 20 screwdriver and used more zip ties than what was included. Also, tried stuffing the control unit into the bumper area before I realized I could just stick it to the light housing itself. Much easier. Net took about 1.5 hours and most of that was crawling under the jeep routing the power line up to the battery. Easy.... 50411

Replaced a unit that stopped working and that did not take power from batery. Unit was just a matter of connecting 4 connectors and running a wire forward to the batery. No problems and unit works good.42898

Very easy installation on my 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport. I ran the wire from the battery underneath the vehicle along the same route as the rear brake lines up and over the rear axle and then to the trailer wiring harness.38734

Fit really well. Went to auto store in town first and was given the wrong part. E-Tailer got it correct first shot. Running power wire to front was a pill but works well. Thanks for your trouble. Jim (07 Jeep Liberty)38702

The plugs for the taillights are too big for the holes. it is easy to cut and splice them though. Other then that this is a great product and fairly easy to install. 32305

etrailer.com is great. Their customer is awesome and so are the products. I installed this on my 2007 Jeep Liberty. The hardest part was running the hot wire from the back to the front. Otherwise, everything was pretty straight forward and easy (instructions included).24171

Shipment arrived a day early, very easy to install. This is to replace one I bought from a different company and it burned out in a year. The quality of this T connector appears to be superior to the one I had. A tad bit more expensive then the old one (about $20.00 more), but a real bargain compared to the $180.00 Jeep wants for theirs. 21848

Shipping and Handling - Excellent Price - Good Ease of Installation - Good Product functionality - Excellent Suggestions: 1- Needs a longer ground wire (about 1-1/2 ft) to take advantage of pre-drilled frame holes for grounding screw. 2- Display module location layout in instructional illustration. 3- Provide better module securing method (2 sided tape not sufficient, did not work) 9983

  • T-One Wiring Harness 118524 for 2006 Jeep Liberty Fuses Blowing
  • There are a few different things that could be causing your fuses to blow. I would check to see if your trailer connectors have gotten wet. If they have, you might want to get a plug cover (part 30512). Check also for bare or pinched wires along the trailer frame. If your wires are frayed or damaged on the harness or trailer, they may need to be replaced. You might also double check the trailer ground as well to make sure that it is still grounded tightly to a clean surface on the frame.

  • Troubleshooting No Left Turn Signal on T-1 Wiring Harness for a 2006 Jeep Liberty
  • If you are checking the harness, item # 118524, without the trailer hooked up and there is no power on the yellow left turn circuit coming out of the converter, then you will need to check the ground wire on the vehicle and be sure it is securely connected to a good ground point. Then check the connectors behind the taillights and be sure they are securely connected. If all checks out then your converter has shorted out somehow and will need to be replaced. If you are checking the yellow wire

  • Troubleshooting A T-One Wiring Harness On a 2005 Jeep Liberty
  • It sounds like you have a dead short on the tail light circuit that is contacting the left blinker circuit in the converter box on your Liberty. I would use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, and check the wiring going into the converter box on the T-One wiring harness, after reconnecting the harness. You should have 5 wires to test (see video). The red wire should have power when the brake pedal is depressed. The green wire should have intermittent power when the right turn signal is

  • To pinpoint where the problem is actually occurring, I recommend using a circuit tester to check for function at the 4-Way plug on your 2007 Jeep Liberty, without your trailer connected. We offer part # 3808, if needed. With a helper in the cab of the vehicle and the tail lights on, check to see if you get a power reading on the yellow and green wire ports when the turn signal is flipped or the brake pedal is pressed, as these would be the turn and brake signal wires.
