Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - 2012 Terrain by GMC

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your GMC Terrain with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting, splicing or tapping required.

  • Provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your GMC Terrain to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing of wires
    • Locate connection points behind tail lights
    • Plug in T-connector
  • Comes with dust cap for 4-way flat connector
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited 1-year warranty

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your GMC Terrain's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your GMC Terrain, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 GMC Terrain

Today in our 2012 GMC Terrain, well be installing the Curt T-Connector 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part number 56094. To begin our install, well first go ahead and open up the rear cargo hatch. Well need to remove both rear taillight assemblies and to do this there are two fasteners that have plastic caps and then the fasteners to remove. Well go ahead and use a small screwdriver to remove the plastic caps and then we can remove the two screw fasteners underneath. Once we removed the screw fasteners, well then go ahead and pop the taillight assembly out of its current position being careful not to break the alignment tabs underneath. Now with the taillight assembly removed, well go ahead and press the manufacturers wire connector locking tab and remove it from the taillight assembly. Well go ahead and set the taillight assembly aside for reinstallation.

Now with one side done, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. With both taillights out of the way, we can now take our new wiring harness and start putting it into position. Well take the 4-pole connector and feed it down between the bumper fascia and the body or sheet metal of the vehicle until it drops down underneath. As were starting here on the driver side, well then take the green wire connector and follow the 4-pole connector leaving the yellow and brown connector behind the driver side taillight assembly where we can plug into the manufacturers wiring. Once weve plugged into the wiring, we can then go ahead and plug the connector back into the driver side taillight assembly and reinstall it. Next well get underneath the vehicle and well take our 4-pole connector and green wire connector, start routing to the center of the vehicle and the passenger side, keep in mind when routing your wire to stay away from any moving components such as steering or suspension or excessive heat such as exhaust. Now that we have the green wire connector over on the passenger side, well go ahead and feed it up behind the passenger side taillight assembly.

Now well go ahead and take the new wiring harness, plug it into the manufacturers wiring and the other end into the back of the passenger side taillight assembly. Next well take our white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal and this will be ground wire for our new 4-pole connector. Well need to secure it to the body of the vehicle. Note I recommend to locate an area where the sheet metal doubles up here behind the passenger side taillight assembly. Using a self-tapping screw, well go ahead and secure the ring terminal now. Once completed, well go ahead and reinstall the passenger side taillight assembly.

Next well get back underneath the vehicle and start securing our wire. Well use the black zip ties provided with the install kit to secure the wiring behind the bumper to the fascia brackets. Well then use some longer zip ties and secure the wiring to the hitch as it runs to the center of the vehicle. Well then take our 4-pole connector and wrap it up with some black electrical tape to help bundle up our wires as we route it over the hitch and secure it to the chain loop with the cap provided. Now that weve completed securing our wiring, well go ahead and cut off the excess zip ties to clean up our install look and now we can check for operation of the new 4-pole connector. With the ignition on and our test light grounded to the open terminal of the 4-pole, well test the first cover terminal which will be the brown wire for our running light circuit, the second will be the yellow wire for the left turn signal, left braking and the third will be the green wire for the right turn signal, right braking. Now that we know our 4-pole connector is ready to go, were ready to hit the road and that does it for the install of the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness 4-Pole Flat Connector part number 56094 on our 2012 GMC Terrain.

This wiring harness is very easy to install. I had a bit of trouble getting the tail lights out of our 2012 equinox but with a a second set of hand they slipped out without doing any damage. I used extra zip ties and wire loom to help protect the wire. Be sure to keep it away from the exhaust if you have a V6 with duel exhaust tips. I modified a Curt rubber tube cover to secure the harness to the receiver. I made sure to leave extra wire in behind the hitch so that I can pull it through when I need it. 63065

I've seen many aftermarket hitches that are obviously not built for a specific car, and they look terrible when installed. The hitch I purchased from was a perfect fit for my car. It was built by Curt Mfg., and was surprisingly easy to install. I had the wiring harness installed in about 45 minutes, and it just plugs into existing wiring (no splicing). And the hitch bolted onto the car with no cutting, drilling or hammering. It was done in about an hour. The finished installation looks like it came with the new car ! The process was much less expensive than having the dealer install it. Excellent product !! 137454

Look, I have no doubt that the product is excellent. After all, it fits perfectly into and with the original equipment. The installation (I took my laptop out to my Equinox and ran through it, step by step) went without a misstep--well, I did drop a screw that held the rear light bracket in place and spent a while retrieving it from inside the car frame, but that was my fault. I also want to note that the video is correct in suggesting using longer zip ties, but I was able to make use of the provided ties, supplementing them with a few of my own. But here's the real deal: The staff at babysit you all the way from order to delivery and beyond. Amazon's a great way to shop, BUT I've ordered twice from etrailer and I'm convinced it is the place to go if you want the right part and SERVICE. Seriously. 135638

I recently installed the 13591 Curt hitch onto my 2015 GMC Terrain with T connector harness. The hitch fit perfectly and was easy to install. As for the T connector harness, the provided connector were a perfect fit into the GM factory harness. Wire routing was easy by using the carriage bolt wire (provided with the Curt hitch) as a retrieval tool for the passenger side. The only thing I could suggest to add to the kit is a trailer connector bracket and a piece of adhesive backed foam to put between the harness connector and vehicle body. I used a piece of foam weather strip to prevent rattles caused by the connectors hitting against the body panels. 167501

I need a wiring product for my 2012 terrain the the local didn't stock the right one. To order One would take three to four days and I needed it quicker then that (poor planning on my part) and they ask over double the price that I got from you. You also gave an option on shipping te and cost. I was very pleased with your service You can always purchase like products but when it comes to service your company stands out. I will be purchasing a flat tow bar in the near future and be ordering it from you. Keep up the good excellent service. Thanks Jim 52012

To EASY to install. I purchased this product for my 2012 GMC Terrain AWD 4 Cylinder. Just like the instructions I removed the screws for the tail lights, popped them off (you need to pull straight back and a little hard because the tail lights have straight clips behind them, they won't break, the clips go straight into the vehicle body) and clipped in the harness as directed. Too EASY. When putting the tail lights back on be cautious not to smash the rubber lining which runs above the tail lights on the vehicle itself. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!!!! 46024

The wiring is very easy to install and worked perfectly for me the first time I used it. The video walkthrough was spot on, it only takes about 15-20 minutes to install and doesn't require you to run a wire up to your batterey at the front end of the vehicle. Besides installing the ground wire with the self-tapping screw, the rest of the instalation only involves plugging in the 4-way adapters to your existing taillight wiring. The product arrived as decribed and I would absolutely reccomend this product. 82234

I found the products I purchased from etrailer to be very good, easy to install at a reasonable price . I was pleased with my customer service from placing the order to delivery and follow up. I highly recommend etrailor and next time a purchase auto accessories I will start with etrailor. 156554

Pretty Easy. The Chevy Equinox tail light assembly has only two screws each. Easy to remove with a phillips screw driver. The wiring harness is pretty self explanatory. The wire coloring matched the basic wiring from the tail light, making it easy to match up. The harness has more than enough length to reach the hitch. It was a little tricky finding metal to drill for the ground but all and all a good product. The entire wiring project took me less than an hour. 143748

Of the two Wire Harness's available for the Terrain and Equinox from etrailer, the Curt #56094 is absolutely the one to purchase. With this one, you do not have to run a wire all the way from the back of the vehicle to the front and make a Battery connection, like you have to with the other harness available. Excellent quality and installs easily, without the hassle of running a wire to the Battery. Curt trailer products are second to none. 25947

I bought this for my 2014 equinox, not being very mechanically gifted I had worry if I could actually do this but after reading what other customers had written I thought I would give it a try. Was I ever surprised at the ease of installing it. Any time I need something I will alway head straight to I was so impressed with the quality and instructions I must give them an A++ and a at-a-boy 129725

The product was just like what I saw in the video and just as easy to install. I installed the trailer hitch and the wiring myself with my brother's help. We finished in less time than was estimated and checked out the wiring with a voltmeter. Everything worked just fine. Thanks for the installation video. I would not have tried the install myself if it were not for your video. Thanks. 131864

I had the chevy dealer install the hitch and wiring harness. They told me that the equipment was of great quality and easy to install. I was able to do these type things years ago, but at 75, a person has to admit it's time to let the younger guy's do the work. This is the second hitch and harness I've gotten from you. I have recomended you to several of my frends. Thanks Bob C. 127132

The install went without a hitch, (No pun intended). I liked the product for the 2013 Equinox and the fit was perfect. I would recommend you finish protecting the wire with either plastic spiral wrap or the plastic split wrap to protect the wire from wearing against any sharp edges under the vehicle. It is readily available from your big box hardware store. 86044

This was a small challenge. I did it myself and have very few tools. additionally at 75 with knee replacements I cannot get up and down very well, nor can I sit on my knees. (Butt only) Other than the minor adjustments normal for metal sizing once treated all went very well. Zero issues...."IF" you don't count some pain. Very well constructed product. 105845

Quick delivery. Clear instructions, good quality (good powder coating job). Easy to install (you don't need to move the tail pipe). Make sure weld nuts on the vehicle are cleaned out well before starting. A little grease to the bolts also makes them thread easier. Used with a trailer light kit. As always, very satisfied w/ products. 34262

Received hitch and wiring harness very quick. It took me about an hour to install both. Th Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness were both quality products. Simple installation...I mean SIMPLE!!! The only suggestion that I could make would be to have some sort of mounting bracked for the trailer connector instead of letting it dangle loose. I know the instructions show the rubber cap keeping it in place, but that is still a little flimsy. Otherwise, very easy and took 15 mins to install. 32587

Both the hitch and the wiring harness were a breeze to install. Watched both install video's before attempting to the job and it made it very easy. I received the towing hardware a few days earlier than I thought I might. I read the instructions a couple of times and had the hardware installed, by myself, within 30 minutes. It took me about the same amount of time to install the wiring harness. There were no surprises and I could not be happier. 124906

Curt T-Connector wire harness. Easily installed on my 2011 Chevy Equinox. Fit like a factory wire harness complete with waterproof connections. The video shows it all. Only thing I added was some black plastic wire loom to complete the illusion of a factory installation. Thanks for a great product. 14443

by: Darin R.03/17/2015

Couldn't of been an easier install, had it done within 15 minutes. Watched the videos on the website and everything laid out as suspected. Only thing I'd recommend is longer zip ties as they were not able to go around the hitch frame but I made them work through existing holes in the bumper rail. 178901

Excellent video instructions - installed as described without issues. Hint: Before you route the passenger side wire bundle back up into the tail light assembly, make sure you have routed the wiring package and connectors in/around the hitch assembly through the openings and holes that you desire. 99137

Perfect fit. Easy to install. Wish they made a 5-pin version for trailers that have back-up lights. I had to splice in the fifth wire. Also added my own ribbed flex conduit (identical to factory install) to protect the wires from chaffing. You should consider offer it on your site. 2678

Couldn't ask for a more elegant and efficient install. Took all of a half an hour, and it was that long only because of my arthritis. Those cable ties become a bear when you fingers don't work right. And the dealer had the audicity to want a hundred dollars to do the same thing. 20013

Check out the link to the video. At about the 30 second mark, our installer removes the driver side tail light. After that, you can see the two plastic pins, and their corresponding holes, close to the outside edge of the body. Wiggle slightly as you pull straight back, and you should be fine.

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, Circuit Protected vs Unprotected
  • We stock both the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118494, and the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 56094, because we have customers that request both styles. Many times customers do not want to run the extra wire to the vehicle battery, so they order the # 56094 harness. The Battery connection is the biggest advantage of the # 118494 harness for protecting the vehicle circuitry. I would use the circuit protected model, # 118494, because there is always a possibility of a short...

  • Does a T-Connector Trailer Harness Need to be Plugged into Vehicle ECU
  • Curt T-Connector harness part # 56094 does not need to be plugged into the computer of the vehicle. T-Connector style harnesses plug into the tail light wiring connectors with an additional wire that will need to be grounded to the vehicle body or chassis. Sometimes there is another wire that will need to be run to the battery.

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2013 GMC Terrain
  • The biggest difference between the Hidden Hitch part # 87572 and the Curt Hitch part # 13591 that you referenced is the round tube vs. square tube. Another difference is that the Hidden Hitch uses a couple more attachment points. Other than that it looks like the Curt costs a little less. Either would work great for you. If it was me, I would probably go with the Curt based on the price difference. To complete your towing setup you may also be interested in the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness...

  • Does the T-Connector Wiring Harness Violate the Warranty on 2010 Chevy Equinox
  • The T-Connector Wiring Harness for the 2010 Chevy Equinox, part # 56094, is very easy to install. You will simply plug it into the factory connectors behind your tail lights and you will be ready to tow. Installing a wiring harness will not interfere with your warranty. I would recommend two things. If you will be towing frequently, I suggest a mounting bracket like the 4 and 5-flat Trailer Connector Mounting Box, part # 18145, to keep your plug from dragging the ground. I also recommend...

  • Does the Computer have to be Reset to Install a Curt Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2012 GMC Terrain
  • I went over the installation instructions and you will not have to have the computer reset when you install the Curt wiring harness, # 56094, on your 2012 GMC Terrain. If you are apprehensive about it, you could always disconnect the negative battery cable prior to installing the harness. You will use any programmed information, like stereo presets, but that is easy enough to reset.

  • Trailer Lights do not Work with the Curt T-Connector Harness # 56094 on a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
  • According to Curt, the T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness, # 56094, that you installed is compatible with your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. It sounds like there may be an issue with the wiring harness itself since your trailer lights work with another vehicle. The first step I recommend taking is to inspect the connections for the wiring harness and make sure it is grounded properly. If you see any pinched, frayed or damaged wires, the harness could be shorting out, which would explain why...

  • If you tested the 4-way of the Curt Connector part # 56094 with a circuit tester like our part # 3808 and got no power out of any of the pins with the different taillight function applied the first thing I would do is make sure you grounded the white wire of the harness to a clean metal surface that touches the vehicle frame. The next thing I would do is make sure that all of the connectors are securely in place. You could even unplug them and then replug them back in. I attached an...

  • After Installing Brake Controller on 2011 Chevy Silverado, Trailer Brakes Lock Up Right Away
  • Do you happen to have a 6-Way trailer connector or are you using a 7-Way to 6-Way adapter? Usually when this happens and a 6-Way is involved it means that the 12 volt circuit and brake output circuit are switched. On just a 7-Way, there could be a short that is causing power draw to the brake output pin. And it could be a problem with the brake controller. There are some tests you can do to test the brake controller. In the truck cab you will need to sever the blue wire several inches...
