Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your GMC Terrain's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your GMC Terrain, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your GMC Terrain's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your GMC Terrain operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your GMC Terrain's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 GMC Terrain

Today on our 2010 GMC Terrain, we're going to install the Tow Ready T-One Connector part number 118494. First, we'll need to access the rear cargo area. We'll remove the two tail light screw lens covers and then we're going to remove the two fasteners. With our fasteners removed, we can go ahead and gently pry the lens away from the body of the vehicle. See, now exposes the tail light wiring harness. We can go ahead and disconnect the tail light lens.

With the driver side wiring exposed, we can go ahead and take our new T-One connector and plug in line with the manufacturers. On the driver side, we use the yellow and brown wiring end connectors.Next, we'll go ahead and take the remaining part of our wiring harness feed down through the cabin between the bumper cover and the sheet metal. All right, next we need to feed our green wire over the passenger side. Anytime your routing your wires, take precautions so stay away from the excess feed such as the exhaust or moving components such as the steering or suspension. So for routing the green wire, we're going to go in the bumper structure and then feed through it over the passenger side.I'm using the piece of tubing or piece of step wire as the pole wire so we can get it over to the passenger side.

Once, you get your pole wire fed over to the passenger side, let me take a piece of black electrical tape, tape my green wire off to my pole wire. Now, we'll fed over the passenger side. I'm going to go ahead and use my same pole wire to feed it up between the bumper cover and a sheet metal, guess, we fed it down on the driver side. Now, we're up behind the tail light, we'll go ahead and remove the electrical tape and our pole wire, make our connection with the manufacturers. We'll be plugging in line with the manufacturer's connection.

Now, here on the passenger side we're going to go ahead and reinstall our tail light lens. All right, now before I can go ahead and mount my converter box, I want to install the black wire onto our red power wire coming out on the converter box while the butt connector that connected to.So, first we need to strip back the wire. Now, we can go ahead and connected to with the butt connector. All right, now before you might the converter box here's the quick tech tip I recommend to go ahead and tape up the butt connector connection, this will help keep out any moisture, dirt and debris from our electrical connection. Now, we've got our connections main we're going to go ahead and mount our converter box.

Looking for our solid flat mount surface typically a piece of sheet metal. So go ahead and peel back the double side of easel up behind the bumper cover below the driver side tail light as a good flat clean surface for me to go ahead and mount the converter box to. With our converter box, we can now go ahead and run our 4-pole over the center of the hitch. To secure our wiring I just fuse the black zip ties. Okay, a little bit pole wiring that we're going to need for this application so I'm going to double it up and secure it here above the hitch. Next here on the driver side behind the tail light, we're going to mount the ground wire. Ground wire, the white wire with the ring terminal are already connected. Now, in mounting the ground wire it's best to go through at least two layers of sheet metal. Be peeled back the tape here covering an access hole, you can see that the sheet metal doubles up. So go ahead and mount there underneath the tape using the self tapping screw provided in our install kit. Then, we can just reinstall our tape. Now, we can go ahead and make my connection with the tail light and reinstall it. Once we complete that, we can begin routing our black power wire up to the vehicle's battery. With our wire pulled up into the hinge compartment, we're going to go ahead and remove the fuse box cover which will have the battery terminal post that we can connect to. Here's the post that we can go ahead and attach our power wire tube, all we do that we're going to go ahead and secure our wire and our fuse holder. Our fuse holder will take and cut in half, strip back both sides of the wire, one side will get the butt connector and add to our power wire the other side will get the ring terminal that will attach to the positive battery terminal. Now before I attach my power wire, we can go ahead and cut our power wire to length and if we dont need to hold the excess. With the excess of our power wire cut-off and our wire strip back, we can go ahead and add our butt connector. Then, we can add our fuse holder. Now, go ahead and remove the battery post so we can install the ring terminal on to the positive battery. Now, we can go ahead and reinstall the fuse cover. All right, with our fuse cover reinstall we can now go ahead and add the fuse to our fuse holder. With our fuse holder can be installed that completes the installation of our Tow Ready T-One Connector part number 118494 on our 2010 GMC Terrain. .

Purchase the Curt #56094 (listed as-"Alternate Wiring Harness") instead, don't purchase this one. Check the videos on both. With this one (118494), you have to run a wire all the way from the back of the vehicle to the front and then make a Battery connection. This one costs quite a bit more and isn't worth it. The Curt #56094 is an excellent, quality product that is very quick and easy to install. Save yourself both time and money. Curt trailer products are second to none.26060

Instaling the hitch to the car was very easy and the instuctions were very clear.. Installing the wiring harness was easy also but I think the attachment of the mudule via double sided tape needs more work... not sure if that is going to stay attached with just the tape... Over all it was an easy installation and am very pleased with the products...40549

The printed instructions and video are spot on. Good product, pretty easy to install if you are comfortable and/or familiar with minor electrical work (splicing and crimping). The only reason I did not rate as excellent is because I could not mount the T-connector black box behind the taillight (where the instructions suggested) because the wiring harness was not long enough. I had to mount on the undercarriage and may I may need to retrofit with some sort of securing device because I am not sure how long the double side tape will last. My only other challenge was deciding where I wanted to route the wire running from the battery terminal back to the driver side taillight. Additionally, you may want to have some extra and longer zip ties on hand. I used several more than what was supplied and found that I need some longer zip ties based on where I routed the wire along the frame. Overall I am satisfied with the end result, they work perfectly!38058

Instructions should include exact placement of the module behind the tail light. Green wire harness going to the right tail light could have been six inches longer. I had to tuck it behind the weatherstripping at the bottom of the tailgate opening to have enough. Otherwise it worked out fine. 20798

After watching the video it was pretty easy. Took longer than the hitch itself (about an hour) due to taking the needed time to ensure the green wire on passenger side was secure, and routing and securing the black wire to the battery. If I would have had the vehicle on a lift, it would have been quicker. Looks as if it was professionally installed. Great product, great service from etrailer.20191

This kit was exactly perfect on the install, fit and function. It went great w/ my new etailer hitch, put this on a 2011 Chevy Equinox and it looks great. The online video, and transcript were very helpful and a good idea to watch before trying it on your own. Just by watching you learn the little tricks you need to know. 19072

The product works perfectly on my 2010 Chevy Equinox. It is a bit of a pain to run the power wire from the back of the vehicle to the front. However, it just takes a bit of time to make sure the wire is routed and secured properly.18764

Too bad there is not a rating higher than Excellent. This product worked well. The installation video on YouTube was most excellent and VERY helpful. Watching the videos helped me decide to buy from trailer.com on both the Curt hitch and trailer wiring module package. I installed my hitch in about 45 minutes on 2012 Equinox and the trailer wiring kit in about the same time. Also I had occasion to call and speak with one of the agents at trailer.com, she was very helpful and cordial. Great place to order from and to deal with, the best !!! I do not have any photos to post but the YT Videos do a great job of showing how it really looks.47005

I work for a nationwide hitch sales and installation business. unfortunately my store does not carry full lines of lighting products. I found your site, was so impressed with your inventory and selection that I ordered a light kit for a customer, delivered it to him, showed him the instructions, and he installed it himself. Please dont tell anyone, (I will use you again, thanks)45541

Product easily installed and works well. Directions very clear although I did route the right rear connection a bid different than presented and connected the main power to a line previously used by and original installer. He did not use the fuse but I did as directed. I think that is why I needed to install a new unit.25527

  • There are 2 options for wiring your Equinox for flat towing. The first would be to use either a Magnetic Towing Light Kit, part # C-ATL20A or the E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit, part # EZT20B. These kits have the benefit of being very easy to install. The wiring remains completely independent of the wiring system of the Equinox.
