Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on its 2010 Chevrolet Equinox were going to install part number 118264 from Tow Ready. This is the Wire Harness for vehicles that have a Tow package plug. First thing we do is go ahead and remove the bottom panel here and the threshold. Now the threshold pops up pretty easy from the back side here but many of the tool from the other side to pop it up. Now, the port is located underneath here behind this gray component and in this case we are going to go ahead and listen up this panel on the inside here. To make it a little bit easier to see.

We will go ahead and remove this two type points so we can move up the panel. That support we need to get to plug in our harness. Pop and loosen the fitting from the side, just pop it together, put back in place. Now for the interior back together and the wire harness will stay with the spare tire and we're not using a harness to stay like that. Now, we do need to use it simply pull out.

Just stay away from the latch and then shot the hatch on it. And pull out what you need to go down to your hitch. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number 118264 from Tow Ready.Filename: Page 1 of 1Order #: 144539532 .

Plugged right in to the existing connector on our 2011 Equinox LTZ V6. Unlike in the video, I was able to connect it without removing the panel, tested it with a voltage meter to be sure I wouldn't need the computer reprogrammed as someone else indicated. For now I left it stored right where it plugs in But plan to wire it out through the grommet and into the bumper.59071

I just purchased a new GM vehicle that did not come with a hitch. My expectations of ease in installing this hitch myself far exceeded what I expected. Installation was extremely easy, total time to install was less than 30 minutes. Parts were "high" quality. Instructions were very easy to understand. Shipping was quick and delivery confirmation included. My total experience with etrailer was extremely positive!!!!58528

Your videos helped in seeing what harness I needed. I did run the wiring different then in the video used one of the body plugs resealed it fasten it to hitch holes in the body panels. Instead of pulling it out of the hatch when needed.57216

This harness works great for my Terrain. I like how I can just hide it away in the spare tire compartment when not in use. I had to decide between this and the more expensive, more difficult to install harnesses meant for Terrains without the factory towing package. On a hunch, after viewing the installation video online for the harness with the factory towing package, I decided to see if the factory harness connector was actually in my Terrain. I have the highest-end SLT-2 package, which includes the power rear liftgate and other extra options toward the rear-end, so I thought I might get lucky and find the connector there. Sure enough, after removing the trim panels as in the video and feeling with my hand in the area noted on the video, the connector was there, attached to the sheet metal to prevent it from rattling around. All I had to do is pull it free from the sheet metal and I had all I needed. So for those of you who thought you didn't have this connector without the factory towing package, check for it anyway -- you may likely have it like I did if you have an up-option Terrain.54825

I own a 2010 Equinox 2LT with the 2.4,4 cyl engine, which did not come with a factory tow package not available with the 4 cyl engine. I also checked for the factory harness connector, and found it with no problem. The connector was live and it was a simple plug and play installation. I have heardread that some times the factory connector is there but not live and it requires a trip to the dealer to have the computor re-programed, but that was not the case with my vehicle. My daughter has just ordered a new 2013 Equinox without the tow package and I will be checking it as well... will post a report on that car as well.

The Black wire will draw 12 volt power. For the Black wire that connects from the rear of the 7-way to the battery it is recommended to use a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # PK54540. • What are the Differences Between Trailer Wiring Options for a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
  • The Curt wiring harness, # 56094 and the Tow Ready harness # 118264, are for different variations of a 2012 Chevy Equinox. Tow Ready harness # 118264 is designed for vehicles that have a factory tow package. Curt harness # 56094 is for a vehicle that does not have the factory tow package. You are correct in that the Curt harness would receive power through the vehicle wiring to the trailer lights. Any problem could affect the vehicle electrical system. • Trailer Wiring Harness Installation on a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox Without Factory Tow Package
  • I spoke with a local Chevrolet dealer and activating the tow package on your 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is more involved than having the fuses in place. They said depending on your specific vehicle, a few additional components may need to be added and the vehicle computer may need to be re-programmed for the tow package to work. The wiring harness, # 118264, that you referenced is designed to work with vehicles that already have the factory tow package. Instead, I would recommend looking at the

If I were you I would go with the # 87572 since it is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening that will have a larger carrying capacity and have more options for hitch accessories. I attached an FAQ article on hitch classifications also for you to check out also. The T-One Vehi
