    • Stop/turn lights: 4.2 amps per circuit
    • Tail lights: 7.5 amps per circuit
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Ford Edge's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed either within your rear cargo area or beneath your Ford Edge, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure if you are mounting it near the hitch.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Power Module

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your Ford Edge's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Ford Edge

Today on this 2009 Ford Edge we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118551. We are at the rear cargo area of the vehicle here. And we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting locations for our T- Connector. The connecting points are located directly behind the tail light assemblies. But to gain access to those we are actually going to be routing the wire from the interior, out through the grommet behind the tail light and then making our connections. So to get started we want to go ahead and disassemble the rear cargo area so that we have room to route our wires across. See I have already removed the cargo cover here. Okay then we also want to remove the rear threshold piece here and you can do that by just gently prying up on it to release the tabs that are holding it in. And that is going to allow us to pull back the interior panels here on each side. We want to remove the screw here at the end. We are going to do the same thing on the passenger side.

Now we are going to go ahead and remove the tail light assemblies. There are two inboard screws on the assembly itself that need to be removed that allow us to take those off. And you just want to gently rock it back and forth until you get the outboard clips to release. And with that removed you can see the large connector here. That is the one we are going to be connecting our T- Connector ring to on both sides. To get the wires from the inside to the outside we are going to need to put a little slit to the grommet here. Okay, now we are going to do the same thing for the driver- side tail light. Now we can go ahead and take our harness and feed it from the inside out. I am going to start here on the driver side. We want to take the set of connectors with the yellow and brown wires as well as the white wire with the ring terminal connected to it.

We also want to take off of our modulite box, the red wire and go ahead and connect it to the large, black bundle of wire that is included with the wiring harness. That black wire is also going to come out through this grommet here on the driver side and we are going to take it and route it up to the battery. Take and feed the other end of the black wire out through the grommet. I am going to go ahead and make my connection through the driver- side tail light assembly now. To do that we just want to push the tab here and then just pull the connector off. And we will just plug our harness in line. We are also going to want to go ahead and ground the white wire. We are just going to ground it to this metal surface here using the self- tapping screw that is provided in the installation kit. And then the last thing we want to do here on the driver side again is to run our black wire down through the opening. And that is actually going to be coming out down behind the mud flap here behind the rear tire here on the driver side. To do that we need to remove a few of the screws here that are holding the mud flap on. And we want to make sure we pull the full length of wire all the way out. I am actually going to feed that to the inboard side. We are going to be running it all the way up to the battery. Then we can go ahead and reassemble the mud flap and the driver- side tail light assembly.

Now that we have got the driver side put together we can go ahead and route the connector over right up behind the panel and make our connection in the tail light. And then we are going to slide the grommet back in here. Okay and the last thing we want to do before we route our wire up to the battery is to go ahead and mount the modulite box here to the inside of the vehicle. As you can see we have got double sided tape here on the back side of it. And you just peel that away. You can just peel away the cover here and you just want to adhere that to a clean, metal surface somewhere back behind the tail light assembly. And then with the 4- pole left over in here, leave it stored inside the rear cargo area here and you can pull it out the back hatch of the vehicle when you want to use it. All right now we can reinstall the interior of the vehicle and we will go underneath and route our wire.

Okay when routing the wire up to the front through the battery you want to make sure that we avoid any possible pinch points or hot spots that could damage the wire. All right now we are up under the hood, and you can see we have got our wire in all the way up to the battery. The next step is to go ahead and connect it to the positive terminal of the battery. Pull the cover back here. You can see we have got two auxiliary posts that we can connect to. And go ahead and loosen the nut on that. And next we are going to take our fuse holder that is provided with the harness. We are going to go ahead and just cut it in half. With one end connecting directly to the battery and the other end connecting to the black wire. We are going to strip off some of the jacketing on both ends. And one end we will apply the ring terminal, to the other end, a butt connector. Determine how much length we need of the black wire. And go ahead and cut that down. It will not hurt to put a little bit of tape around the connection. And then finally we will go ahead and add the fuse to the fuse holder. You want to tie up any lose wires you may have left over with the remaining zip ties and our installation will be complete. Part number 118551.

Install took longer than "advertised". Instructions supplied were not very helpful. However, the online video helped much more. The most time consuming parts were removing/reinstalling interior panels and running the hot wire up to the battery. After 1.5-2 hours, we finally had it installed on my 2010 Ford Edge and all lights worked (both on car and trailer).80380

This product worked great. We ran the four pole connector up through the weather stripping and into the trunk compartment on the 2011 Ford Escape. This way the connector is not subject to salt and road grime.79654

This installation was on a 2012 Ford Escape with back-up sensors and rear view camera. Received the harness when promised and all the pieces were there. The enclosed instructions are a little brief so I viewed the etrailer.com video for the installation which was quite helpful. Took a little over an hour to install working by myself. I liked that the harness wiring was plenty long enough, but not so much that you had to bundle up the extra. Tested after installation and everything worked as it should. I mounted the box on the frame with the attached pressure adhesive tape. I think it would have been a more permanent install if it had a metal band around it for attachment. Used all the included wire ties plus another 8 or 10. Would be nice if more were included in the kit. This is the second product I've purchased from etrailer.com. Each time they ask questions about your installation to make sure you get the product you need. They deliver the correct equipment and it's delivered when promised. You can't go wrong using these guys.72154

Nice product. The video I found before I ordered the product was great. The written instructions were not as good, in that product changes were not updated in the installation instructions. (said there was a red wire which turned out to be black. In the end the harness worked well.57811

Product was fine And install went fine save one issue. The instructional video said to stick the modulator unit to the inside of the bumper and THEN connect the black power lead. The lead was too short to connect at that point since you can't get both hands inside the bumper Either the video should be changed or the black lead coming off the modulator needs to be long enough so the connection can be done outside the bumper and then stuffed back in. Easy install. Connectors are OEM quality. Not having to splice into existing wiring was very nice. The only negative part of the process was running a 12V supply line from the battery under the vehicle back to the tail lights. There should be a closer supply solution available. Works great.57059

Great product simplifies trailer wiring with no splicing needed. The only time consuming part is running a 12v power wire to the light controller module. If you're real picky (like me) you will spend more time dressing the wires than installing the trailer hitch. 57019

Easy to install and all the parts are there. Installed it with some friends over some beer and MNF so it took a little longer than what was listed. Wondering though if there is a different wiring harness kit for an Escape with AWD like mine. Ford has a connector for trailer lights that you could have easily spliced into rather than run the main power up to the battery. Regardless, it was easy to install and the videos are accurate and so easy to follow. The only thing I have to figure out is why my LH turn signal blinks faster than the RH. IF someone can tell me that would be great. Otherwise, I'll just have to deal with it. 55027

worked Great and easy to do. just wished there were a plug in pigtail for 2012 e-350 brake switch,or a better way to hard wire brake controler, switch is hard to get to,and it has 4 wires, what Wire is it and how do you unplug it,seems like a good place to use a mercury switch were you would not have to cut into truck brake wire.just clip onto brake pedal arm.54126

The wiring harness for my 2011 Ford Escape Limited was literally a snap to install. The instruction video was right on. Anyone who can change a light bulb or bake cookies can do this. The local price quotes for wiring my hitch ranged from $50-$90 for the labor alone. Total wiring time for me was 45 min. Excellent product and fine service from Etrailer...I recommend them to everyone. 36333

The product is awesome. It was easy to find on the website, shipped quickly, arrived in perfect condition...and installation was easy. All that at a great price! What I really liked was the OUTSTANDING communication and service. From order confirmation all the way through the shipping process, I was kept up to speed. That's pretty rare in today's "e-commerce world." I'll be a returning customer for sure!68426

Easy "plug and play" install. Hardest part is running the power wire from the battery to the rear of the vehicle. Factory claims it is a 45 minute job , it took more like 1 1/2 hour, for just the wiring. Buy different wire connectors (splice connectors) for the power wire the factory one are cheap and do not clamp the wires firmly. Also the battery connection end has a hole to small to go around the battery terminal. 33298

118551 Harness: Very easy to install, instructions were unambiguous, pictures were helpful. A second terminal lug would have been nice, i.e., sized for a #10 - #12 screw. 36501 Hitch Receiver: Again, very easy to install, no drilling required. This turned out to be a great experience! Tony P.31404

  • Why is a Hot Wire Needed for Trailer Hitch Wiring On a 2009 Ford Escape
  • The hot wire to the battery, for trailer wiring on your 2009 Ford Escape, is needed to protect the wiring in your vehicle. Vehicle manufacturers have started using thinner and thinner wiring due to advances in circuitry. When additional load is placed on these wires it can affect the sensitive circuitry in the vehicle. The power wire provides the power to the trailer lights and the vehicle wiring is used as a switch to tell the converter box which circuit is activated. This system also protects

  • Why the Power Wire for a T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Needs a Direct Connection to the Battery
  • T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118551, requires a direct connection to the battery. This is because if it is tapped into another power source whatever else is using that power source could cause it to overload, damaging the sensitive wiring, taillights, and any number of other electrical components in the vehicle. The protection that the modulite supplies is dependent on the battery connection. This is so that the vehicles sensitive wiring is not used to provide power to the trailer. Your 20

You can use either the passenger or the driver side, it makes no difference. In order to determine which wire you need to splice into, you will either need to use a circuit tester, like part # 3808, or since there is only two wires you can just go by trial and error. You need to find the wire that goes hot or active when you put the Mariner into reverse. The

Use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, and determine if all of the functions are present at the 4-Way connector. If all functions are working properly, then the trouble is on the trailer that you used to test the harness. • Usually when you see lights acting strangely, such as coming on or turning off at the wrong times, this is typically a sign that you have a bad ground connection. I recommend that you check the white ground wire and make sure it is firmly attached to a clean, unpainted metal surface. If you are using a factory ground screw, make sure that no other blade or ring connectors are between the ground wire from the harness and the grounding surface. You can also inspect the wiring to make sure t

Typically, the problem occurs on the trailer. To rule out the vehicle, start by using a circuit tester like part # 3808 on the trailer connector on the vehicle, as each function is being operated. If you determine that you do indeed have the tow package, use the # 118251 harness that plugs into the connector behind the rear bumper at the drivers side frame member. The only gray area in the instructions is running the power wire forward to the vehicle battery. • Why Does Trailer Wiring for a 2011 Ford E-350 Van Require a Converter and Power Wire

A 3 wire system has separate turn signals and brake lights. Three wire systems require a converter to change the signal over to a 2 wire system which is what a trailer uses. Also, on some vehicles it has been determined that the electrical system cannot or should not handle the load from its own tail ligh
