Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the passenger's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

I bought this specifically for my 1997 Grand Cherokee with the tow package. Like alot of people who bought this (as i later found out) it had an extra connector that didnt fit anywhere in my jeep. My jeep had a big 8 pin connector behind the spare tire, but this kit has a small 2 pin connector that had nowhere to go. I emailed customer support and never got a response from them. I ended up buying another one somewhere else that did fit.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

the included instructions from the manufacture are wrong. for my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee the proper vehicle harnesses are located on the driver's side behind the spare, not the passenger side. You will see an access panel there. Open it and both connections are there. You need to switch the yellow and green wires for proper operation. plugs are on the harness
I have called curt mfg. to have them correct their instructions I hope you will correct your web site. otherwise the product works great.

As soon as Curt updates the instructions, we will have an updated copy on our site.

I got just what I ordered and it was delivered on time. Everything went smoothly until I went to install the harness in my Jeep. That’s when I realized I ordered the wrong harness. My Jeep has a towing package but it did not come with a factory towing package. I ordered the harness for the factory towing package and it does not fit. It’s my fault. But YES I recommend this seller because they did as promised and the harness was in perfect brand new condition.

by:

Easy to order, quick receipt of product, and super easy install. The included instructions didn't exactly match my vehicle, but there were several benefits online. It literally involved plugging in 3 plugs and that's it.

I am installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Wiring Connector Kit 55260 and i dont see where the black plug goes. The one with two spades in it.

Patrick B.

It should be behind the trim panel on the passenger side in the rear cargo area. Keep in mind, this wiring kit is designed for models that came from the factory with a towing package. If yours does not have a factory towing package, the connectors may not be there or may not be active. In which case you would need part 118349 or part C55349.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It almost the correct Product. My fault, I ordered the factry installed
rather than a new install. Cable leading to the right side was too short.
I'm gonna see if I can modify it to make it about at least 1 1/2 ' longer.

If not I'll just order the correct product.

Thank you.
Rudolph

  • Curt Trailer Wiring Harness Installation on a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Factory Tow Package
On the product page for Curt trailer wiring harness # C55260 there is a section below Features called Installation that reads "This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Jeep Grand Cherokee's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the passenger's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area." • Trailer Turn Signals and Brake Lights do not Work on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Limited 5.9
Since your 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee came with the factory tow package, I would guess you have blown fuses for the tow package turn signals and brake lights. Typically, you will have one fuse for the tow package or trailer left turn signal and brake light and one fuse for the right turn signal and brake light. I recommend checking your owners manual or fuse box legend to locate the tow package fuses and look for blown fuses. This should solve your problem without having to install a separate...

  • Which Trailer Wiring Harness Will Fit a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee With 5.2L Engine
The correct harness for your 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee will depend on if you have the factory tow package or not. This can be verified by contacting a Jeep dealer and having them run your VIN. What they say will determine which is correct. If you end up having the tow package, I suggest going with the Curt # C55260. This is a plug and play option and will take very little time to get installed and using. If you do not end up having the factory tow package, I suggest going with the Tekonsha...

  • Cant Find All of the Connection to Install Curt Trailer Wiring Harness on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Curt trailer wiring harness # C55260 is designed for models of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee that came with the factory tow package. It is possible that yours does not have the factory tow package so not all of the wiring is present. If you have searched and cannot find that connector anywhere then that is likely what is going on. So instead of harness # C55260 you would need a different harness, # 118349. I have included a link to a video review of this harness for you.

For your 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C55349 if you do not have the factory tow package or part # C55260 if you do have the factory tow package.
