Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Chrysler Town and Country's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.


Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your Chrysler Town and Country, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.


It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.


Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Today we're going to review part number C56150. This is the Curt T-connector, vehicle wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now, this part is a custom-fit part number. It is designed to fit the Chrysler Town & Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan, starting in 2011. What I would recommend on a custom-fit part number is go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this part will work for your application. This does provide this four-way flat trailer connector to the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It does connect quickly and easily.

Use these plug-in T-connectors and you just located your connection points behind your taillights, plug them in, run this hot lead to your battery, ground the white wire, and you'd be ready to go. It does include this powered taillight converter right here, this black box, and this will connect directly to the battery, and that avoids overloading your vehicles electrical system. This converter right here is constructed using a SMT, or surface-mount technology. It gives you consistent, reliable performance and it does maximize your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat. It also ensures superior operation in any rough road conditions. For the four-way, it does come with this included dust cap. It helps protect the four-way when you're not using it.

Basically, what you would do with the dust cap, you could just put this around it, go ahead and slide that down over the base of it, just like that. And then when you're not using the four-way, you just put the dust cap right over the terminals, and that'll help protect the terminals from any damage and also from the elements. A few specs on this wiring harness; the maximum amperage in the stop and turn light circuit is 3 amps per circuit. On the taillights, it's 6 amps per circuit. This part includes everything shown here. It comes with the wiring harness. It comes with an extra set of wire.

This is a length of wire to run to your battery. It comes with a nice set of detailed instructions that show you the connection points, tells you how to hook everything up; in-line fuse holder; a 10-amp fuse; a grounding screw; eyelet connector; two butt connectors; a piece of double-faced tape, that's for attaching your converter to your vehicle; and then a couple extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring. What I'm going to show you now is briefly how this would attach to your vehicle. What you're going to do is go to the back of the vehicle, and then behind your driver's light and passengers' taillights, what you'd want to do is start with the driver's side. This T-connector with the yellow wire in it, that would be for your driver's side, so you go behind your taillight, unplug it, match up your connectors, T this plug-in connector into there. Then what you want to do, it has a white wire on it, you do want to make this a ground. You do need this as a good clean ground for this harness to work.

So if you have a screw already in the vehicle that you can use, if not, they include a grounding screw that you can make your own ground. Then what you'll do is you'll take this T-connector. It has this length of green wire. This will run over to the passenger's side. And same thing, you'll, behind the taillights, you'll plug in this T-connector. Then what you want to do is you want to attach this converter down so it doesn't bounce around, so again, you just take this double-faced tape, stick it on there, peel it off and adhere that to the vehicle. Then your connection here is the black wire that comes out of this converter. This is your power wire. This is going to go to your battery in the front of your vehicle. What you'll want to do there is take this length of wire, use one of these butt connectors, attach your power wire to one end. Let's pull out both ends here. There we go. We've got an end here and an end here. You'll take that butt connector, put it to the power wire, connect it to one end of the length of wire, and then you'd run this up to the front of the vehicle. When you get up there with this end, you'll take this other butt connector and put it one. You're not going to hook it to the battery yet. What you're going to want to do is connect this in-line fuse holder to the butt connector and then the other end of the in-line fuse holder, you'll get this eyelet connector, put it on and then that's what'll connect to the positive post of your battery. Then what you'll want to do, pop open the in-line fuse holder, take this 10-amp fuse, go ahead and push it into the holder, put the cap back on it and that'll protect your system that's hooked up to your vehicle. Again, there's some cable ties to take up any length of this wire that might be hanging down that you want to tie up. That should do it for the review on part number C56150. I purchased this Curt wiring harness (made in USA) over the other cheaper option, and it was a good decision. The installation went reasonably well and most importantly when I got all done it worked. You really need to plan where all the wires are going to be routed before you start. The flat connector and the black power wire I routed inside the car, and the right light taillight under the frame. I put the flat connector inside the compartment where the jack is stored and when I need it I just pull it out. Hints: Review the online video before you start, it gives you a good overview of what to expect. Make sure you install the control box as low as possible in the light well otherwise you will not have enough green wire to run to the other light. Use black tape on all the connectors to make sure they do not come apart. Running the wire inside the vehicle was pretty easy. I fished the wire under all the inside trim panels and went through the firewall in the same place the hood release cable did. It was a lot cleaner and I did not have to deal with where to attach the wire under the car. Areas that could be better: The installation instructions are pretty basic, and could use some help. Make sure you stare at the wiring diagram before you start the install. The green wire that goes to the right side light needs to be at least a foot longer. You have to be real creative in routing the wire to get it to fit. I had to re-run the wire several times to get it to fit. The double stick tape to attach the control box to the light compartment does not work well. The area you need to put the box in is not flat thus making the tape unusable. I ended up putting two strips of duct tape on it to hold it in place 38115

Installation was straight forward and took me about an hour. I routed the passenger side tail light wiring before securing the module in the drivers side tail light space. The green wire was long enough as I made sure it was on top of the bumper ledge and trailer hitch brackets after reading the other reviews. It is very easy to route it so it will be to short. I purchased 20 ft of small wire loom for the power cord and secured it with wire ties under the car. It was pretty easy but there were not enough wire ties in the kit. I used about 15 wire ties for a very neat installation of the power cable. I also cut a slit in the rubber grommet in the drivers side tail light well and ran the trailer hook up wire into the car jack compartment. This made the wire a little short but I was able to purchase an extension. For me it is much better to have the trailer wire inside of the mini van rather than trying to find a spot to secure it underneath the van when not in use. Every thing works no problems. 90973

The harness was delivered quickly. The install instructions were good. I found the video was extremely helpful. The only issue I ran into was the green wire to the passenger side tail-light was too short. I read about this in other reviews and was prepared for this. I had to splice in about 18" of green wire. The longest part of the install was routing the power wire to the battery. I found it useful to jack up the driver side rear to get more clearance for routing the power wire. That being said it might have taken me about an hour to install. 134384

With the video it was a pretty straightforward installation. Like some others I felt the green wire was too short. Rather than spend time to find the perfect routing, I just spliced in an extra foot of wire and everything fit. The most time consuming part was running the power wire to the battery. Again the video helped in that, but if you don't have a lift you will have to spend some time on you back getting it all done. I had some zip ties with mounting holes in them and I used them on the wires coming out of the control box, so that even if the self adhesive tape doesn't work the box is held in place by wire ties. I probably spent 2 hours on the wiring installation. 88285

I ordered my hitch and wiring for my new 2012 dodge caravan se monday after noon and it was delivered to my home in nekoosa , wisconsin within 48 hours! My son and i jacked up the rear end and lowered the exaust to access the 5 bolts that would be used to properly install the hitch. I lay on my back and bench pressed the hitch up to the bolt holes so my son could install the provided bolts. This part of the installation took about 40 minutes. I was very impressed with the appearance of the hitch, it looks great and is very well finished. Before attempting to install the hitch and wiring kit my son and i watched both instructional dvds. Believe me i am not a tech guy . Without the instructionals i probably would have had the dealer install the hitch and wiring at the quoted price of $450 dollars! The cost of my doing the project was $250 saved! Wiring took about one hour. The only hard part was crawling along the cold concrete floor to run the power wire up to the battery. I am 76 years old and found this project easy because your videos were easy to follow step by step. I had my tablet sitting on the bed of the van while we worked. 167156

I did have to lengthen the green wire going to the PS Rear and I ran the wires through loom. Trailer hitch was very easy to install. Backed van up incline until rear wheels were in garage. removed two exhaust hanger bolts and five bolts for hitch.had plenty of room without jacking. Used small stool to raise right side of hitch close to final area and then used scissors jack to lift driver side into position.loosley replaced bolts on driver side first then moved scissors jack to right side and finished lifting hitch into position. Exhaust pipe didn't move very much but overcame that by using socket with universal. replaced hanger bolts tightened all bolts. Done! Wiring harness went very smoothly as chrysler provided a nice opening on rear quarter interior behind jack storage to mount module on their module. a rubber and plastic exhaust air opening provided room to put wires out to hitch and to rear lights, only issue there as others have noted is green wire is too short. Only time consuming issue was routing wire up to battery without jacking vehicle. I also spent $3.00 to put plastic shielding over wire to battery. The trailer hitch and wiring kit for my 2013 Grand Caravan is installed and looks and works great! The hitch installed without...well, "a hitch". The wiring kit took awhile to get right. The instuctions over-complicate things, but are otherwise effective except that the wiring itself isn't long enough to install it as recommended. The "little black box" that they tell you to adhere to the frame can't reach that far, so I installed it in the driver's side tail-light opening. I think this is a better, more protected location anyway. The ground is very short. I drilled a hole and installed it on the corner of the hitch itself. Other than those two short wire complaints, I thought the kit was great...just takes a bit of creativity and patience to make a clean looking install. It took me well over 3 hrs to install. 1. The green wire is about 2" too short. I cut and spliced in 4" and added plastic protective looms. If you do not do this the tight wire will cut and short on the sharp metal through which is the only possible path. (HOW MUCH MONEY did they save by making this wire 2" short?? Screwing with this took most of my installation time...trying diff paths, splicing etc. etc.) 2. The adhesive strip is a joke ..held only for about 10 minutes. I got desperate and used Liquid Nails...doesn't move ..yet. 3.ran black power wire through where the jack is kept then tucked it between the carpet and rocker panel step and out aside the hood release grommet. I have not yet hitched up a trailer to test. 83160

This was put on the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. Just like everyone else the green wire was def to short to have the box fit correctly on the drivers side. I did not jack up the vehicle so maybe there could have been a better way to route the wire but i did the best i thought i could. Everything else went just like the video showed for my specific vehicle. An extra set of hands def helps since it pretty tight under most of the vehicle. Only one issue the T connector the hooks up into the drivers side light is very touchy had to mess with it a bit to get the left turn signal on the van to work everything else worked fine. Took a little over and hour start to finish just taking my time running the wire and making sure to wire tie and secure it into place correctly. 182347

Jim and I installed it yesterday and it was a little tricky getting it up under ,but we found the video to be so useful in the installation process. The only thing was on the directions you say to leave the one bolt in one the passenger side bolt in frame to hold bumper ,we read that after the fact, but we got it installed and are thrilled. We have not done the wiring harness yet but I will let you know how that goes. Unfortuntley ,I do not have the ability to send you any picture, but we highly recommend your product. This product was good except for the adhesive backing for the trailer module was not sticky enough to adhere the module to the inside of the bumper cover. I cleaned the surface as best as I could, but the adhesive material just didn't stick. Perhaps I couldn't get the enough of the rust-proofing spray off the bumper to allow it to stick, but I'm not sure. Also the module didn't have the sticker on it that describes what each wire is for. One way to make this product better is to provide extra butt connectors in case you accidentally cut through the ones provided when crimping (like I did). In the end, I was still happy with the product because it was designed well-enough to satisfy the requirement. 206733

Very please with the kit and ease of installation. I have added a wiring harness to four vans over 30 years, and this was the easiest. Even with having to run a wire to the battery. I did have to add 6" to the green wire, but wonder if undercoating lengthened the path. There appeared to be a slit that I could have slid the wire into as a shorter path, but it was clogged - and adding wire seemed to be easier. The online video was key - the packaged instructions are minimal if you have never installed a wiring kit. * The nut on my battery terminal is about an M6-1.00, not the larger nut listed in the video. I found a usable nut in my loose hardware drawer, so I don't have the exact size. 97802

Installation was a breeze, but on our second camping trip this wiring harness is failing. The wiring harness I purchased on 7/2/14 is failing. The right taillight of my trailer is always on and flashes like a strobe light when the brakes are applied or the right turn signal is on. With everything disconnected from the wiring harness except the ground and power, there is a constant 5 volts at the connector for the right side lights. I disconnected the power to the unit hoping it would reset, but that did not help. I unplug the trailer from the car at night when camping for fear of running down the mini-van battery. I always buy the vehicle specific wiring harnesses for the vehicles I tow with, the customized connections and considerations for wire routing saves a lot of headaches. My only complaint pertaining to this part is the wire for the T-Connector for the right side (passenger side) extension was too short, this wire (green) could stand to be ~12" longer for future production. I had to splice a 12" segment in order to make the connector reach my taillight housing, plus leave some slack to allow bulb change outs. If you buy this harness, I suggest having a couple extra butt connectors and a small piece of comparable gauge wire so you can extend it. 162892

Hitch was nice, had to remove 2 exhaust hangers to gain access to bolts on passenger side. Rubs bumper cover at bottom, but mounts solid so hopefully no damage. Wiring harness from Curt was tight to get from drivers taillight to passenger side underneath, not much room to maneuver taillight into place. About 2 1/2-3hrs to install hitch and wire everything up and test working by myself. Use 6 inch extension on ratchet and it will give you much more room to tighten down bolts for the hitch, especially with the torque wrench. 81210

Having read other reviews I knew the green wire was going to be short(you would think that after so many years and so many complaints about this that the mfg would add 12" more to make it easy.)Because of this, I started installing the green wire first and then the drivers side-everything came together perfect by doing it like that. I was stalling on this installation, I thought all my good fortune had been used when the receiver installed so easily. The wiring was a breeze, I installed the passenger side harness before mounting the adapter box and had just enough wire to make it fit. Running the +12V supply went smoothly. I cheated though, I ran a 12Ga wire back to a small water tight fuse distribution block. One fuse is feeding the adapter box and the other is for my 7 pin trailer connector. 90784

The trailer electrical package appears to work okay, however I would suggest you go back and take a look at the wiring lengths for the 2013 town and country van. I had to extend the two wires from the module to the tail light plug assembly in order to be able to mount the module. I had to take time to get 4 butt connectors I didn't have on hand. Bought a Curt Hitch and this T connector. The hitch went on in 45 minutes, without a jack, ramps, or anything. 7 bolts (5 for the hitch, and 2 to move the muffler out of the way temporarily) and it was done. The T connector took the same amount of time, and was simple to install. An hour and a half total, and I saved $700 off dealer charges, and $200 off the quote from a local hitch installer. Before you buy into the "green wire is too short" theory, remove the warning flag that is wrapped around the harness and route the green wire carefully. Do not buy. The harness length is too short for the passenger light. It is 80 inches or 6 feet 8 inches to go from driver's light down to bumper across to passenger side and up to passenger light. The length required is 120 inches or 10 feet. It also came without the fuse holder. However it did have all the warnings and instruction for the fuse holder in the plastic bag but no holder. 157988

This is the second wiring kit I have installed in a Dodge Grand Caravan. The difficulty I found was the green wire that connects the left tail light to the right was about 12 inches to short. I had read in other reviews that the wire to the passenger side T-connector was too short to reach the taillight assembly but had assumed that it was the result of installer error. Product arrived as scheduled. I watched the video first, so the installation went without any issues. The wire length from the left tail light to the module could be 2 inches longer, so the module could be glued to the inside of the fascia with more ease. If the green wire for passenger side had been long enough, the installation would have taken less than an hour, but splicing in about a foot of green wire slowed the process.
