Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Today on our 2012 Chevy Traverse, we'll be installing the Curt T Connector Wiring Kit, part number C56027. To begin with, we'll need to raise the rear hatch of the vehicle. Then we're going to go ahead an remove both of the taillight assemblies. To do this, there are 2 small plastic tabs that we'll need to remove from each side. They will not be completely removed, as they are connected by a small plastic tether, which you'll need to lift them out of the way so you can remove the one screw that is in each hole. Once you have the screws removed and you pull the light assembly off the vehicle, you need to remove the wiring harness from the back of the light. To do this, you'll squeeze the tab and pull the wiring harness free.

Make sure that you don't break the tab off of the wiring harness. Now that we've got both light assemblies removed from the vehicle and the wires disconnected, now we're ready to go ahead and route our wires. First we'll begin on the driver's side, where we'll fish the green and the white wire as well as the four flat section down behind the rear bumper fascia, behind the driver's taillight. You'll also feed most of the yellow and brown wiring down below as well. Once you have this done, you go ahead and make your connections with your factory witing harness, and plug it into the back light assembly. With your wiring connections made, we'll go ahead and put the light back into place.

To help us route our wire underneath the rear bumper fascia, we're going to go ahead and remove the lower center section by turning the two tabs here, pulling downward a little bit, and the whole center section will come off. With the center section removed, it'll expose the hitch that's already on this vehicle, as well as where we'll be connecting the four flat once our wiring is completed. Now we'll go ahead and fish our wire underneath the vehicle and run our green and white wire over to the passenger side. Now to pull the green and white wire up on the passenger side, we went ahead and used an old section of air tubing that we had to help fish the wire up so we could make our connections. Now that we've got our wire routed up to where the light assembly goes, we'll go ahead and make our connections, as well as mounting our ground screw. To do this, we use the self typing screw that is supplied, and use the ring terminal on the white wire, and find a doubled up section of the body. Now with our ground in place and our connections made, now we're ready to put this light assembly back in place as well.

Now we'll go back underneath the vehicle and finish zip tying up the excess wire, as well as doing a little tape work to help keep the wire secure and protect it a little bit near the end of the four flat. We also went ahead and used a little section of wire loom, about a foot in total, part number 459075-1, to help protect the wire on a couple sharp edges that we found in routing the wire. Now that our wires are zipped up and secured, we can go ahead and test the wiring. With the running lights on, when you touch the brown connection, you should get a constant beep or a light that stays on. For the left turn, which is the yellow wire, you should get an intermittent beep, or light flash. For the right turn, which is the green wire or the passenger side, you should get the same thing, intermittent beep or a flash.

Now for testing the brakes, you will use both the green and the yellow, and there should be a solid light or a constant beep with the brake lights on. Now we'll go ahead and use the extra protective cover to help secure it to the hitch, and help keep it out of the way. Now that we've checked to make sure our four flat works, we can go ahead and put the lower fascia piece that covers up both the wiring and the hitch that's on this vehicle. To do that, you just slip the four tabs that are in the top into place, and turn the two tabs when they line up with the slots, turn them 90 degrees. With that, that'll complete the installation of our Curt T Connector Wiring Kit, part number C56027 on our 2012 Chevy Traverse. .

I'm just your run-of-the-mill exceptionally satisfied customer. Full disclosure: I'm a cheapa$$. After I found what I wanted from etrailer, I surfed the part numbers looking for a cheaper source. After a few minutes, I asked myself "what the heck am I doing? has put up the money and time in a great website and fantastic how-to videos, and even if they're more expensive, they *deserve* my business - they earned it." So I bought. Additional full disclosure: nobody was cheaper. Don't waste your time looking. Oh, the hitch and wiring kit fit perfectly. What else would you expect? 64624

Hitch is everything I could want. It was so easy to install took about 30 minutes like you stated on the web. Finish is extraordinary. fit perfect. The wiring harness was also easy to install and of excellent quality. I couldn't believe it got here so fast 2nd day from when ordered. I was able to fit my rear bumper door back on the car hiding the hitch completely from view. The video presentation was so helpful with the installation. Your CEO should be very proud of the well trained, organized and sincere staff representing e-trailer. I will certainly recommend your company to all I know. 94868

I had never installed a trailer wiring kit before, but it was a very easy install. It fit my 2010 Traverse perfectly. If I had a question it was addressed in the instructional video posted on the website. I looked at other wiring kits, but they were much more expensive, and you had to buy the 4 pole connector cover seperate (this one comes with one). All around very satisified. I also bought the mounting bracket (18144), and the hole placement was an exact fit with my hidden hitch (no drilling required). 63311

So my phone call started out... "I'm a single mom and I have no clue what I need but I know what I want to do...." Nicole got me exactly what would fit for my car and all of the additional accessories to make it work long term. Couldn't be happier - everything arrived exactly as ordered and early!! Terrific company! and whoever Nicole is... she deserves a raise! 181509

This was the easiest install ever. The hitch bolted directly to the hole pattern on my Chevy Traverse as advertised. The instructions on you tube were as easy to understand as the instructions they sent. The wiring harness is plug and play easy. Two hour install by myself. I recommend this product to everyone. The quality of this hitch is second to none. I am impressed! 124378

My mother received the package, but the box was torn to pieces. I will not know if anything is missing till I get to her home, in about 2 weeks. So, based upon what she said, I would suggest a second wrapping of cardboard on heavy item when shipping. I will let you know the real condition and it anything is missing when I get there. Thanks, Jason 173205

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Left Tail Light on 2010 Chevy Traverse Stopped Working After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness
  • Trailer wiring harness # C56027 is a T-connector, a pass-through device that doesn't draw any power itself so the only way that it could be causing the tail light to not work is if a pin inside one of the connectors is bent or broken, dirt or corrosion is in one of the plugs, or the unit does not have a sufficient ground. You will want to unplug the connectors and check the vehicle side and trailer harness connectors to see if any pins are damaged or if anything is dirty. For the...
