Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Today on this 2011 Chevrolet Traverse, we're going to show you the Curt Key Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a four pole flat trailer connector, part number C56027. These are the parts you get with the kit. First off, we've got the T connectors here. This is the yellow that goes over to the driver's side, behind the tail light. The other half with the green wire, that goes over behind the passenger side tail light. We also have a white wire for ground which goes to the sheet metal first ground.

This is our four pole end right here. Also comes with a cover for it when it's not being used. And also some zip ties and a ground screw as well. Okay let's go ahead and install the wire harness. It'll be relatively simple.

First off, we need to go ahead and open up the back hatch. Then we can go ahead and start to work on removing the tail lights. The hardware to remove the tail lights from behind these two little covers here, so pop it loose with a little flat blade screwdriver. We'll go ahead and remove the screws inside. We use a 7 millimeter socket to remove the screws. You can grip it from the top here and pull it back and it pops loose.

Okay, disconnect the electrical. We'll go ahead and pull . Push down this little tab right here and pull it apart. All right, the passenger side is done. Let's do the same thing over on the driver's side.

Okay, let's go ahead and start working with our wire harness. We're going to drop the four pole end down the driver's side first. Try to work it all the way out towards the bottom. Now we want to do the same thing with the T connector green wire. We'll run that down out the bottom as well. Kind of helps inaudible 00:01:50 goes towards the front of the vehicle. Let's go ahead and pull it down. And we're going to take a four pole wire harness brought to the center hitch. We'll just leave it there for now, and we'll continue on with our green wire T connector and route that to the other side and back up to the tail light on the passenger side. Now pull the wire up. We're going to use a pole wire to help us do that. I'm just using an old piece of airline tubing. This also can be any piece of wire to hold the shape and guide it down towards the bottom. Go ahead and take our T connector, we're going to attach it to our pole wire and bring it back up to the top. After we bring it to the top, we'll go ahead and make our connections to the factory wire harness on our vehicle. We'll push it together until it makes a click. Then we'll take a moment to take our white wire with the ring terminal and ground it to the sheet metal right here. This is our self tacking screw. We'll use a quarter inch nut driver on it and go ahead and attach it to the sheet metal. Go ahead and start it by itself first, and then add our wire. All right, at this point, we can go ahead and reinstall our tail light on the passenger side. Now we'll go back over to the driver's side and make our connection there as well. All right, now at this point, we can go ahead and start securing our wires. To make things a little bit easier, we're going to take off the bumper cover here. There's a little panel that hides the hitch. For starters, we're going to take a length of the wire, maybe about this much right here and go ahead and zip tie it to the hitch. I'm using an extra long zip tie that doesn't come with the kit. It's always a good idea to get some extra zip ties for a situation like this. Let's go ahead and take some of the small zip ties that came with the kit, and we'll bundle up our excess wire. We'll use some more long zip ties to secure it to the hitch. All right, when this side is done, let's go ahead and do our other side. Okay, now we're going to zip tie our wires. We also want to make sure that our wire this close to the exhaust is far enough away. We'll go ahead and cut off our tails to our zip ties. All right, one of our last steps . Let's go ahead and put the cap on our four pole. Just slide it over it in place. I think we're going to use the cap to help hold it to the hitch. It's always a good idea to go ahead and try out your four pole wire harness before you plug it into the trailer to verify that it's working. First, we'll go ahead and check the ground wire for a running light circuit, and then yellow for a left turn signal. Green for a right turn signal, and then our brake signal will be a constant signal on the green and yellow wires. Looks like everything works. All right, with that, that'll finish for the Curt Key Connector Vehicle Wire Harness with a four pole flat trailer connector, part number C56027 on our 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. .

I'm just your run-of-the-mill exceptionally satisfied customer. Full disclosure: I'm a cheapa$$. After I found what I wanted from etrailer, I surfed the part numbers looking for a cheaper source. After a few minutes, I asked myself "what the heck am I doing? etrailer.com has put up the money and time in a great website and fantastic how-to videos, and even if they're more expensive, they *deserve* my business - they earned it." So I bought. Additional full disclosure: nobody was cheaper. Don't waste your time looking. Oh, the hitch and wiring kit fit perfectly. What else would you expect? 64624

Hitch is everything I could want. It was so easy to install took about 30 minutes like you stated on the web. Finish is extraordinary. fit perfect. The wiring harness was also easy to install and of excellent quality. I couldn't believe it got here so fast 2nd day from when ordered. I was able to fit my rear bumper door back on the car hiding the hitch completely from view. The video presentation was so helpful with the installation. Your CEO should be very proud of the well trained, organized and sincere staff representing e-trailer. I will certainly recommend your company to all I know. 94868

I had never installed a trailer wiring kit before, but it was a very easy install. It fit my 2010 Traverse perfectly. If I had a question it was addressed in the instructional video posted on the website. I looked at other wiring kits, but they were much more expensive, and you had to buy the 4 pole connector cover seperate (this one comes with one). All around very satisified. I also bought the mounting bracket (18144), and the hole placement was an exact fit with my hidden hitch (no drilling required). 63311

So my phone call started out... "I'm a single mom and I have no clue what I need but I know what I want to do...." Nicole got me exactly what would fit for my car and all of the additional accessories to make it work long term. Couldn't be happier - everything arrived exactly as ordered and early!! Terrific company! and whoever Nicole is... she deserves a raise! 181509

This was the easiest install ever. The hitch bolted directly to the hole pattern on my Chevy Traverse as advertised. The instructions on you tube were as easy to understand as the instructions they sent. The wiring harness is plug and play easy. Two hour install by myself. I recommend this product to everyone. The quality of this hitch is second to none. I am impressed! 124378

My mother received the package, but the box was torn to pieces. I will not know if anything is missing till I get to her home, in about 2 weeks. So, based upon what she said, I would suggest a second wrapping of cardboard on heavy item when shipping. I will let you know the real condition and it anything is missing when I get there. Thanks, Jason 173205

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Left Tail Light on 2010 Chevy Traverse Stopped Working After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness
  • Trailer wiring harness # C56027 is a T-connector, a pass-through device that doesn't draw any power itself so the only way that it could be causing the tail light to not work is if a pin inside one of the connectors is bent or broken, dirt or corrosion is in one of the plugs, or the unit does not have a sufficient ground. You will want to unplug the connectors and check the vehicle side and trailer harness connectors to see if any pins are damaged or if anything is dirty. For the...
