Video Transcript for Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118450 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118450. This is the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. This part is a custom-fit part number. It is designed to fit the 2008 to 2012 Buick Enclave, all models, the 2009 to 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, all models and the 2008 to 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, excluding the LTZ version. It does come with everything shown here on the table, comes with the wiring harness, set of detailed instructions, some zip ties and a grounding screw. This will provide a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It does connect quickly and easily.

There's no cutting or splicing of wires. They use these plug-in T connectors. Basically, you just locate the connection points behind the tail lights on your vehicle, plug these in to behind your tail lights on each side, ground this wire, run this out the back and you'll be ready to plug in to your trailer. The wire for the four-way is a 16-gauge bonded wire. The four-way, you can see, comes with this nice rubber dust cap that you can put right over it when you're not using it to protect it from any damage and from the elements. The specs on this harness, the maximum amperage is 7.5 amps per circuit. Basically, when you go to install this, what you'll do is go to the back of the vehicle and behind the driver's side and the passenger side tail lights, what you'll do is access them and unplug the connectors and then these would T right in.

You just plug this in to the tail light and this to the harness. What you do is start with this one, this has the yellow wire in it, that's the driver's side. You also have this extra white wire that you want to connect to a good clean ground on the vehicle and, again, they do give you a grounding screw if you need to drill a hole and make one. Then what you'll do is take this other T connector with the green wire, this runs over to the passenger side, so you run this all the way over to the passenger side and do the same thing behind the tail light, plug this in to the harness. Then just run your length of bonded wire back in the back of the car. Run this out of the car when you need to plug it into the trailer.

When you're not using it, you can store it inside the vehicle. Again, it comes with some zip ties that will take up any extra slack in the wire, and it comes with, again, this nice set of detailed instructions that would show a lot of the points where you're going to be connecting it to. That should do it for the review of part number 118450, the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. .

eTrailer totally rocks! !! First of all, I only discovered your website as a result of trying to price a wiring harness for my vehicle. I had gone to the local store to get an estimate for installing a wiring harness on my 2010 Chevy Traverse, and was appalled that they wanted to charge me $79.99 for the wiring harness and then $100 labor!!! I couldn’t believe it – and went home and googled wiring harnesses, and I found your website among the search results. Right there on the page for my wiring harness was a 4-minute video with beautifully detailed instructions for how to install the harness on my vehicle. Without hesitation, I ordered the part from your website, and days later I had it delivered to my door. I recently had knee surgery, so I enlisted the help of my 12-year-old daughter, who, after watching your instructional video, was ready to go... In no time at all, she had the wiring harness completely installed. Not only did she gain a sense of accomplishment, she also gained $10 to add to her piggy bank. THANK YOU eTRAILER! I will be recommending you to everyone! 47299

etrailer staff went out of their way to get the shipment shipped out late tuesday. arrived Friday evening. The installation video made the installation a snap. Installed in about 30 minutes by removing the taillight lenses and cafefully routing wires away from exaust and tie-wrapped to hitch. First quality wiring kit for 2010 Chevy traverse. Saved time and money. I am very pleased and will make eTrailer my first call for my trailer needs. I couldn't be happier. 114314

The product arrived in great shape, was easily installed and I am completely satisfied!! I will definitely use again and recommend them to my family and friends. Thank you!! Dave C. 132381

This custom wiring harness took all the angst out of tying in to our new Enclave's wiring. I watched the installation video, first, which was most helpful. Recommendations to others, who might purchase this product for the Buick Enclave or similar vehicles: 1. You may need wire ties that are longer than those provided with the kit. I had to secure the wiring to a Hidden Hitch frame, which required 10 inch wire ties. (I doubled up on 8 inch ties.) 2. If you use a drill for the self-drilling screw provided for the ground wire, as demonstrated in the installation video, use caution, as it is easy to strip the hole in the thin sheet metal behind the tail light. I hand-tightened, on my second try. Total installation time was about 30 minutes, including 10 minutes to find the stash of long wire ties in my shop. 108186

This product saved me. We bought a 2009 Chevy Traverse and had the dealer put in the trailer hitch with the 7 pin socket for trailer lights. Unfortunately the wiring harness for the trailer lights, the way it comes from the factory on vehicles without the factory tow package, was not connected to the fuse box, and the fuse box doesn't even support it. Entire sockets are missing. And thus, there was no power at the socket for the lights. In a bind, i found this product, and hooked it up in about an hour, without the need for a new fuse box or any nonsense type modifications. Etrailer shipped it out to me overnight since I needed it because we were going on a trip on the weekend. Got the part on time, and put it in, and all was right with the world again. 66826

When I first installed the wiring harness the passenger side rear turn signal would not operate. This caused a number of other malfunctions, e.g. the ignition key could not be removed, the power windows would not operate, the power sunroof was inop., etc. It confused me as I did not know what had occurred to cause all these things to go wrong. After some online research I found that somehow the fuse had blown and caused all of the related malfunctions. Upon replacing the fuse all was well. I subsequently hooked onto a rental trailer, towed it near 1,700 miles and hitch and wiring system worked perfectly. In summary, even after an initial scare and anxiety over the blown fuse, I would definitely recommend your products. 158866

I received the harness to wire my 2011 Chevy Traverse to tow my cargo trailer. The product came quickly, was well packaged, and the wires seemed durable. The harness plugs into the tail light connections so no splicing or any other electrical work is required. A screw had to be drilled into the sheet metal to ground the lights but that’s the only real work required other than removing and re-installing the tail light fixtures. After watching the installation video produced by eTrailer, I went out and had no issues installing the product. Excellent video! The product is great, but the best thing for a DIY install is the video demonstrating the installation. Excellent video and easy to install product. 135066

This wiring harness was shipped quickly and was as easy as anything to install. It's difficult to muster the courage to take apart newer vehicles these days, but the videos associated with the harness along with the impeccable design made the project easy and should be well within anyone's capability and comfort zone. Professional quality, great design, fast and easy installation = excellent product. On a side note, this company is great to work with. Flawless purchasing experience and tons of correspondence kept me informed on the status of my parts. For what my two cents are worth, I highly recommend using this company for any towing/hitch/accessory needs! 87975

The product is very simple to install and easy to use. I will be towing a pop up camper with my Buick Enclave and what i liked most about this wire harnes is that i did not have to cut any wires on my car the plugs fit perfectely and i was able to install it with in 10 mins. 49951

Do you have a V92 towing package on your Enclave? I have a 2009 Enclave without a towing package and am looking to install a pop up camper as well. What is the weight of your pop up camper? What components did you install in order to tow the pop up camper? I just want to make sure I am not missing something. Thanks!

Had a lot of trouble putting wire harness over the bumper bracket as stated in the video. The person doing the video ( I had my computer alongside me under my 2011 Buick Enclave) seemed to just be doing this with his hand. After a half hour of that I tried another half hour of using a fish tape to pull it through. Still no luck. I took a mirror to look at the opening and it didn't look even close as to getting the plugs through so I gave up and installed the harness using a different route with a lot of ties to keep it off the exhaust system. 22346

I have ordered from eTrailer before. Everything I have ordered from them has shipped fast and packed well. I also have seen their YouTube video's for installation on this hitch and wiring harness and that was what sold me on buying from them. It only took around 20 minutes or so to put this hitch and wiring harness on. Fit on our 2012 Chevy Traverse is excellent and until you remove the plastic hitch cover on the bumper you cant see it. I put a receiver hitch on all my vehicles and this has to be the easiest installs I have every done. 86298

Bought the wiring harness and hitch from etrailer. It said in the video that it would take about 30 minutes for the hitch and 15 minutes for the harness. I believe the whole thing tool us about 25 minutes to do. The holes for the hitch were spot on, the harness went in with no issues at all. The only thing that was lacking were the zip ties needed to be longer than in the package to go around the frame correctly. I had some to use so it really didn't stop anything. Thank you once again for the quick delivery and the outstanding products. 82722

Easy install, great install video, only a couple of complaints... #1: the zip-ties are too small to actually zip-tie anything to the hitch. They need to be a couple inches longer. #2: the wiring kit has no bracket to affix the plug to the hitch. I used a couple of the zip-ties that were too small to use on the hitch itself as a patch until I can figure something permanent to do. Overall though, easy install, only took an hour or so to fully install both hitch and wiring and I'm mechanically stupid. 50084

Very simple install. It's totally plug and play. The video of the install is 100% right on. One thing about the etrailer group. There use to be a day where businesses took customer service as first priority, those days have seemed to slip away, but not with etrailer. These folks have gone above and beyond customer service. They are more worried about your satisfaction than the actual sale. It it’s truly refreshing to see customer service is still alive and well. Thanks etrailer! 33401

The trailer harness wiring adaptor I ordered for my 2010 Chevy Malibu was excellent. Easy website to search and order, Arrived nicely packaged, arrived quickly. Great instructions, fit perfect, worked perfect. It plugged in perfectly to the stock GM vehicle connectors, and worked 100% the first time.the price was reasonable for the quality of the wiring harness I received. All connectors had water-tight seals for long dependable life. I'll definitely order again from 49905

I did the wiring harness and trailer hitch receiver myself. I'm not that handy around cars however it between the 2 things, it took me about an hour to instal myself. I didn't have anyone to help me- if I did, it probably would have shaved off maybe 15 mins and less likely to have something fall on my face. Overall, very easy, instructions were great. I installed this on my 2012 Chevy Traverse. I saved a bunch of money- best deal around that I could find!! 26588

Wiring in the harness was as simple as the video demonstrated on my 2011 Buick Enclave. One of the connectors did not want to stay connected in the tail light - I had to 'massage' it a little to finally get it to click and stay connected. Also, the 3 tie wraps provided in package were not long enough to wrap around the hitch as the most logical place to tie. Not a big deal - overall. Very happy with the quick shipment and product is as expected. 75287

i bought the package, hitch, harness and ball mount. the harness took a couple hours, i had trouble getting the taillight assembly out of my traverse, no fault of the product. installation was easy and perfect. i recommend this product to all. 183863

- 118450

by: Doug G.02/07/2011

It was easy to install, and it looks just like the picture. The only drawback was that the supplied tie wraps weren't long enough to go around the tube of the U-hual trailer hitch-not something that they should have foreseen, just how it worked out for my particular application. The electrical connector plugs worked just fine-very plug and play- except that I did need to drill a hole in the sheet metal to mount the ground wire. 6771

Thank you Vince for your help when making my purchase of the trailer wiring for my Buick Enclave. It assembled as instucted and by watching the video and useing a coathanger i was able to pull connectors up through the fender well without loosening anything. It would have been nice if the wire ties had been long enough to go around the rear frame tube, but everything went together and works perfectly. 134357

Very easy to install, and you get exactly what you ordered. I had nothing but trouble trying to buy a harness for my 2009 Chevy Traverse. My Chevrolet dealer couldn't find the harness and sent me the wrong part time after time. I ordered from E-Trailer and had the correct harness in two days, and for less money than from my dealership. Excellent customer service and follow up. Thanks E-Trailer! 17978

Great product. Absolutely a breeze to install. But the best part of this order was the etrailer team. Ordered it on Sunday, rec'd it in Thursday. Will not hesitate to recommend etrailer to anyone and will most likely order more accessories for my Traverse I'm the future. I have my eye on a backup camera. Sorry, no photos. I ordered and received confirmations that my items (receiver hitch and wiring kit) were pulled and ready to ship on the same day, a Saturday no less! The installation video was a great help. However, I'd suggest having a buddy assist with feeding the wiring through the the body panels. There are a couple points were the wiring can get hung up. Having one person wiggle the wiring harness while the other operates the clothes hanger or hook would speed the operation. Using a flashlight was also helpful. 61446

This wiring harness was easy to install. Instructions were easy to understand and had I needed it, the video would have been very helpful. I installed this on a 2011 Buick Enclave. The plug in wiring is great. Much easier than trying to find the correct wire in a factory wiring harness. Had some issues with routing wiring over the frame. Might have been easier if I started at the hitch and fished the wires up to each tail light instead of starting on the driver side tail light. 122869

I ordered the trailer hitch, wiring harness, and bracket to mount harness. It took me about 30 minutes to install hitch, route wiring harness into cars circuitry, and mount plug. Very simple to install, but I recommendation piece of string to pull the harness up through the quarter panel on the Traverse I installed the harness on....took 10-15 minutes after watching the YouTube video they have.....makes it SUPER easy. Thanks for a great transaction, and I saved over $100 installing the hitch and harness myself! 79280

Hitch arrived quick, instillation was as easy as the video showed. As was previously stated, removal of the exhaust was not necessary. I was able to get the bolts in by just pushing it aside. On the 2011 Traverse, I put the rear plastic cover back on, you can't even see the hitch at all. Have yet to do the wiring portion. 60403

I put it on today and tested it, It is very simple to install, I haven't hooked up to my boat yet, I hope it will light the lights good as I only found 6 volts to brown wires. That will be my problem. I also will buy some kind of wire protector as it will need it on both bottom corners. Thanks Jack. 32939

Everything hooked up just fine. I have used these kits before. Just be aware that they try to cut costs by only putting just enough wire to make it to the other taillight. This means that you must route the green wire in the straightest possible line, or it will be to tight to plug in. 148846

Too easy to do. Excellent video explaning how to do it. Completed in under 15 minutes. Got to love the plug-n-play design! The one issue I encountered is that the tail lights are secured in with 7mm hex screws. This is mentioned no where and I had to figure it out myself. 73255

Received the trailer lighting system and had it installed within ten minutes. The only issue was getting the line up from the passenger side, and as is noted in every review, the zip ties are too short to go around the tubeo a longer version would be helful. 136204

Little harder to install than the T plug on my 93 chevy pickup. Getting the pass side plug up between the bumper and the body, I had to use a wire to fish the plug and wire to the opening. In all it's alot easier than spliceing and tapeing the wires. 18889

  • Once you install a Brake Controller adapter # 3026-P under the dash the wires run to the brake switch and the fuse block like you figured out. After that, the fuse block sends out the voltage on a wire to the brake circuit on the 7-pin at the rear of your vehicle. If you wanted to see where it goes check out the back of the 7-pin and trace the brake circuit wire back from the connector to through your vehicle. If you are looking at the back of the connector the circuit you will be looking...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Installation Difficulty and Details for a 2010 Chevy Traverse
  • We have a difficulty rating system based on how long it would take the average person to install a hitch. For the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75528, and your 2010 Chevy Traverse, we rate the difficulty at a 3 out of 10 meaning it should take about 30 minutes. There is no drilling required. You will have to temporarily detach the rubber exhaust hangars to put the hitch in position. I can tell you that with the proper tools, and someone to help you lift and position the hitch, this is...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2014 Chevy Traverse
  • For trailer wiring for your 2014 Chevy Traverse you would want the Tow Ready Wiring Harness part # 118270. If you need a hitch you would want the Draw Tite hitch part # 75528. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.

  • Can Rear Fascia Panel be Replaced After Installing Curt Trailer Hitch # 13424, 2011 Chevy Traverse
  • You will notice in the instructions that I have linked for Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13424, that it states that the panel in question may be reinstalled on some models. So I spoke with my contact at Curt to determine if the 2011 Chevy Traverse was a model that it could be reinstalled on. He stated that they did not have information on the 2011 but on the 2010 it can be reinstalled. Basically, if the rear fascia is the same on the 2011, then it will fit. But if it has been redesigned, it...

  • Can Fascia Door Be Reinstalled after Hidden Hitch # 87435 is Installed on 2010 Buick Enclave
  • Once installed, the front face of the receiver will extend a bit too far rearward in order for the fascia door to be reinstalled. From what I have been able to determine in my research, the other fascia door you mentioned (with the hump in it) can be obtained from your Buick dealer, but it is intended to work with the OEM hitch because the aftermarket hitch receiver tubes extend a bit further rearward. So, you can install an aftermarket hitch and leave off the fascia door, or purchase...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2011 Buick Enclave without Factory Installed 7-Way
  • The replacement 7 and 4-Way trailer connector # HM40975 is designed to replace a factory 7-Way if your 2011 Buick Enclave came with one from the factory. If your Enclave did not come with a factory installed trailer connector and you want to add a 7-Way you would first need to install a 4-Way, # 118450. After the 4-Way is installed to add a 7-Way you would either need adapter # 37185 (if you do not need the electric brake or 12 volt functions to work on the trailer), and plug in the...

  • Without a factory tow package, you will need to hardwire the Prodigy P2 brake controller, # 90885 (installation details linked below) for your 2010 Chevy Traverse. First, you will need to install Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118450. I have included a video installation on a similar vehicle. Next you will need to install a 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. Plug the 4-Way you previously installed into the back of the ETBC7. There will then be 4 wires left to connect:...

  • No Green Light On the Power Trac Brake Controller When Trailer is Connected to a 2011 Chevy Traverse
  • The Electric Brake Controller Wiring Adapter, # 3026-P, is designed for use with the 2011 Chevy Traverse, if it has a factory installed 7-Way connector. Since you have a aftermarket 4-Way connector, like part # 118450, installed inline with the taillights and a 7-Way adapter, like part # 37185, that the 4-Way harness plugs into, you most likely will have to run at least one wire from the blue brake controller output wire to the blue electric brake feed wire on your 7-Way adapter at the...

  • What Size Trailer Can Be Towed With The Draw-Tite Hitch # 36479 On A 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
  • The Draw-Tite Class II 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 36479, will fit a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. It is a 1-1/4 inch hitch with a gross towing weight capacity of 3500 lbs. The 2008 Malibu will only have a towing capacity of 1000 lbs. So the vehicles towing capacity is what will limit you to how much you can tow. A towing systems capacity is limited by the lowest capacity in the whole system, in your case it is the vehicle at 1000 lbs. I am including a link to the installation instructions on...

  • Parts Needed to Install an Electric Trailer Brake Controller on a 2009 Chevy Traverse
  • The 7-Way RV style trailer connector is more common than a 6-Way. The 6-Way will not have a reverse light/accessory circuit pin. They both will have stop, tail, turn, 12 volt, brakes, and ground circuits. I recommend a 7-Way since it is the more common connector. But if the trailer has a 6-Way connector, then it would be better to go with a 6-Way on the vehicle as well. In order to install a brake controller on your 2009 Chevy Traverse, there are a few parts you will need. If the vehicle...

  • Transmission Cooler for 2011 Chevy Traverse
  • I would start by determining the towing capacity of the vehicle. I did some research, and saw a range of 2000-5200 lbs depending on how the vehicle was equipped. If you phone your Chevy dealer, they should be able to tell you the towing capacity of your Traverse based on its VIN. If you find that the fully loaded and ready to tow weight of the boat and trailer does not exceed the towing capacity of the vehicle, the only other thing I would consider essential would be an aftermarket transmission...

There are comparable units from Tekonsha, the brand we most often recommend, that offer easier set-up and operation, such as the Prodigy P2 # 90885. However, for occasional use the Hopkins may suit your needs well enough. If the trailer doesn't have brakes, you'll first install the # 118450. This provides easy access to the taillight circuits without needing to cut and splice into any wiring.
