Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Chevrolet Impala's wiring harness, which is located behind the passenger's-side tail light. You will have to remove some carpeting and the tail light assembly to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your Chevrolet Impala, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Today on our 2012 Chevy Impala we're going to install tow ready T1 Connector part number 118417. First we are going to need to access the rear cargo area. Then our first step will be removing the rear threshold. There are a couple of fasteners that will need to be removed first. Now we are going to get our trim tool or a flat headed screw driver to get underneath the threshold and just pry it up. There's several plastic fasteners underneath threshold still holding it in place.

Once we have it free we can go ahead and take it out and set it out of the way. Now we need to remove the passenger's side tail light to access the wiring. We'll remove the cargo hook here first. This will allow us to pull the cuffing back and access the other two fasteners holding in the tail light. We can go ahead and remove the passenger's side tail light.

With the tail light removed you can see we can now access the rear tail light wiring. We'll match identically with our tow ready connector. Underneath there's a locking tab that you'll need to press as you release the connector. Then we take our toll ready connector plug it in-line with the manufacture's. Now as you press them together securely locking them in place.

Now with the connections made we can take the other end of our four-pole connector we are going to run it down between the bumper cover and the sheet metal of the vehicle. Just down and over to our hitch. The white wire with a ring terminal preassembled with our ground wire. We'll take our self-tapping screw and run it directly into the sheet metal. With our ground wire is secured we can go and reinstall the tail light line assembly and into your trim components.

Now with the interior trim components reinstalled we can go ahead and get up under the vehicle and round our wire over to our hitch. Then I'll take some black zip ties and secure the wire to the top of the hitch. After I secure my wire I'll just take my pliers side cutters cut off the excess from the zip ties, clean up the install a little bit and that now completes the installation of our new tow ready T1 Connector part number 118417 on our 2012 Chevy Impala.
