Today on our 2011 Audi Q5, well be installing a Curt Power Convertor Four-Pole Wiring Kit, part number c56200kit. First, well need to remove the access panel or cover panel on the passenger side. This will gain us access to the manufacturers wiring that well connect to. Well need to locate the tail light left turn and right turn signals. Keep in mind the tail and break light are a combined system. More specifically, well be locating the Audi T17P pin.
Its the larger can connector that connects to the module here. Now before we can make this connection, Im going to go ahead and take my utility knife and cut back some of the manufacturers tape to give us a little more working room. At this manufacturers connection point, well be able to locate a grey wire with a black tracer; this will be the signal for our stop and tail light. We can go ahead and take our quick connector and splice the red wire from our convertor box into the manufacturers again, grey wire with a black tracer. Now with that connection made, well move to the lower manufacturers connector.
Once again, well go ahead and cut back some of the electrical tape to give us a little more working room and then make the connection with our quick connector and our yellow wire from our convertor box. This is the Audi T17o more specifically, pin number 12, a black wire with a blue tracer. Our next connection will be back up at the turn connector or the T17p connector; this will be pin number 13, a black wire with a green tracer. To it, well connect the green wire from our convertor box. Now that we have all the signal functions, well need to go ahead and hook up the ground wire from our convertor box; it will be the white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal.
Well go ahead and take the self-tapping screw provided in our install kit and ground it the body or sheet metal of the vehicle. Here behind the manufacturers wiring is a perfect location where the sheet metal doubles up. Now with that done, well need 6to connect the power to our convertor box. Using the bug connector, well add the additional wire supplied with our install kit. To give battery power to the convertor box, well first need to uncover the battery; its located in a lower storage compartment underneath the spare tire.
Well go ahead and remove the necessary interior panels and cargo compartments to gain access to the battery. Now as you can see, weve gained access to the positive battery terminal here at the battery. Near the main battery post is also an empty terminal that we can use to attach our ring terminal to. Next, well need to go ahead and get our wire fished through the interior trim panels, to do this; Im going to use a piece of air tubing. You can also use a stiff piece of wire to assist in routing your power wire from the corridor panel into the rear cargo area. Now with my air tubing in place, well simply go ahead and install the power wire inside the air tubing and pulling it through into the corridor panel. Now that weve got our power wire in place, well go ahead and remove the air tubing, strip back the end of the power wire and use the yellow bug connector provided with the install kit and connect it to the power wire form our convertor box. Now with that done, Im going to go ahead and give you a quick tech tip. I recommend to wrap up this bug connector connection as it will assist in keeping out moisture dirt and debris that can build up over time. Next, well find a suitable, flat, clean surface to mount the module box. Once youve located a flat surface and cleaned it off, we can go ahead and peel away the two-way adhesive and firmly press the convertor box into place. Now well go back and start making our connection to the battery. To do this, well need to install an in-line fuse holder thats provided with our install kit. Well first go ahead and cut the fuse holder in half and strip back both ends then well our bug connector to one end and the other end of bug connector to our power wire. Now to the other end of our fuse holder, well add our ring terminal and once again wrapping up this connection with some black electrical tape. Attach it to the positive battery terminal post thats empty here. Now with our battery connection made, we can go ahead and install the 10amp fuse provided with our install kit. Well close the cap on the fuse holder and reinstall the interior trim components. Just like that, weve completed our install. Now lets go ahead and show you how to use your new four-pole wiring. Simply take it out of the rear cargo area, run it out to the center of the vehicle and down to the hitcher accessory. Be careful and stay away fro the latch as pinching it off on the3 latch can damage the wire however, the weather stripping is thick enough that it wont. Once you are finished using your four-pole connection, simply open up the cargo door, roll it up and store it into the rear interior tray components. There you have it for the install of the Curt Power Convertor Four-Pole Wiring Kit, part number c56200kit on our 2001 Audi Q5.

Instructions were dar generic, and omit an available factory grounding location and instruct you to drill a ground screw in the body instead. Also omitted us recommended routing of the 12v power cable. After quite a bit of hunting I routed it inside the car along the drivers side and out the existing firewall grommet. 82157

The wiring kit arrived promptly and was just what I ordered. The hardest part of the installation was removing the trim panels from the trunk area of my VW Golf TDI to expose the car's wiring. After that was done it was easy to make the connections and install the converter. I made soldered connections rather than using the blue crimp connectors that I have found to be less reliable. It is very helpful to have a lift to raise the car when running the power wire from the battery to the converter. The wiring kit works just as advertised. Thanks for a good product.56899

It works but is not exactly custom fit to the 2006 BMW X3. It is not plug in so you have to splice all the wires. The factory unit that come with the factory hitch assembly is a plug in with no splicing. 54051

Installed on a '10 VW GTI. It's a little tricky to get the power wire through the firewall, but I ultimately punctured the rubber gasket that surrounds the main wiring loom and ran the cable through it which worked quite well. On the OEM plugs to the rear lights the outermost wire is for the signal, the middle wire is the ground (Brown) and the inner wire is for the running/brake lights. It worked perfectly once installed with no troubleshooting required.80041
