Today, we're going to review the Thule Gate Mate 62-inch Model for full-sized trucks, part number TH824. The Gate Mate is an inexpensive way to transport a lot of bikes where you can load and unload quickly. The Gate Mate is padded all the way around to not only protect your truck but also protect the bikes that you're carrying. There are two blocks at the top to act as stops to keep your bikes from sliding too far to the left or to the right. There's a strap that's stitched in to the top of our Gate Mate that we can use as an anchor point when we're ready to secure our bikes after we load them up. There's a built in handle hood with hook and loop fasteners so you can access the tailgate handle of your truck.
It's secured by three straps that run around the tailgate through the bottom and into the bed where they attach to buckles on the other side of the Gate Mate. The underside of the Gate Mate has a soft liner to help prevent scratching your tailgate. The exterior of the Gate Mate is a durable vinyl and there's foam padding in the interior. Now, we'll show you how to load up a bike. We'll pick up our bike by the frame, place the rear wheel into the truck bed, and leave the front wheel hanging out from our tailgate.
We'll turn the wheel all the way to the left so that we have room to stock the next bike in place. You can transport several bikes using the Gate Mate. How many just depends on the shape and size of the bikes you're carrying. Once you have the bikes positioned where you want them, you can use any strap such as the Thule Knife with Low Strap, part number TH521, to secure the frames of the bike to the tie-down straps stitched into the top of our Gate Mate. Now, we'll take it on a test drive to see how it does.
That does it for the Thule Gate Mate Tailgate Pad and Bike Rack, part number TH924 for full-sized trucks.

Somehow managed to lose a set of these and after a few weeks of using my backup set (12 ft with no covering on the metal buckles) decided to replace them. The main reason is to protect the car when throwing the strap and buckle around... Also ordered a spare set of buckle protectors, which ends up being all I really needed - they fit on the other set of tie-down straps. 78443

Nicely made straps and easy to use. Perfect for tying a canoe or kayak to the top of your car or any other strapping needs you have. Rubber end caps are nice so the buckles do not scratch the paint on your vehicle. I'm using on a Toyota Highlander to hold down a canoe. Perfect strap for this application.37478
