The Prodigy P2 electric brake controller supplies power to your trailer brakes proportionally. It levels automatically and offers a variety of mounting options.
The Prodigy P2 electric brake controller supplies power to your tow Ford F-150's brakes proportionally. This means that your trailer brakes at the same time and with the same strength as your Ford F-150 - even in reverse gear. So if you have to slam on your truck's brakes, the trailer's brakes respond instantly, too - there's no delay. Thus your Ford F-150's brakes aren't overworked from trying to stop the entire load, and they suffer less wear and tear. The P2 also cuts power to the trailer's brakes when your Ford F-150 is stopped - extending the life of the magnets and brake shoes in the trailer's brake assemblies.
Aside from smoother, more efficient braking that results from proportional application of stopping power, the Prodigy P2 also has a boost feature that gives you more initial braking power for those times when you're towing heavier loads. That's when more braking power is needed to stop the trailer at the same time as the tow Ford F-150. The boost setting sends 13 or 25 percent more power (depending on which setting you choose) back to the trailer brakes, thus compensating for heavier loads. You can boost the power manually at the push of a button as well. The boost feature gets more power to the trailer brakes exactly when you need it most, and your fully loaded rig brakes smoothly and comfortably.
This brake controller levels automatically as you drive, so there's no problem using it on steep hills or when towing through the mountains. The self-leveling feature also makes the Prodigy easy to install: Simply mount it in your cab at any vertical angle (it has 360-degree rotation). It's easy to see the display and to access the pivoting manual override lever on the bottom of the unit.
The P2's continuous diagnostic check monitors your connection and magnet condition, so you can fix any problems before they land you on the side of the road. This newest version of Tekonsha's popular Prodigy brake controller has reverse battery protection to preserve the unit and accessory systems. And the power-save mode reduces battery drain when the controller isn't in use.
The included mounting pocket and Ford F-150-specific wiring harness make your brake controller portable. Your unit slides out of the pocket mount for easy transfer of the brake controller to another Ford F-150. And one end of the adapter harness plugs directly into your Ford F-150, while the other plugs into your P2 - no hard-wiring required. Just unplug the unit to move it to another Ford F-150 or for storage. An instructional DVD that is included with the brake controller's written instructions allows you to take full advantage of all the features.
Installation:The Ford F-150 specific adapter has one end that plugs into the back of the brake controller. On most Ford F-150s, the other end of the adapter plugs into a port located under the dashboard, near the center console. The port for the Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer is behind the Ford F-150's glove box on the passenger's side. Some of the Explorers will have the plug on the driver's side behind the instrument panel, by the brake pedal. For full-size Ford vans, the port is underneath and to the left of the steering column.
Note: If your Ford F-150 has a factory-installed trailer hitch and 7-way connector, then all the wires for the brake controller have already been run. If not, additional parts will be required to complete the installation of the brake controller.

Today, on our 2008 Ford F-150, well be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller. In conjunction with the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for electric brake controllers for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury, Part Number 90885-3035P.To begin with, we will need to locate a suitable location where well mount our brake controller. On this particular vehicle, the customer has asked that we put the brake controller in the center pocket just above the manual shifter for the two and four-wheel drive selector.To begin with, well need to remove the lower fascia that goes around the interior dash. Youll need to remove the two push pins, one on each side to remove this. Now that we have this side out of the way, well go ahead and check up behind where we want to mount our brake controller and make sure that there are no wires or anything else that we can potentially damage when we mount our brackets.Now that weve checked this out and make sure that everything is clear behind it, well go ahead and take a suitable location in the pocket. As you will see in this particular vehicle, theres already a little switch just to the left of where we need to mount the brake controller.We need to make sure that we leave plenty of room to still reach that switch.
Now to route our wire through the back of this pocket, were going to use a small rotary tool. Now, that we have the hole made, to push our wires through, well go ahead and push our wires through so we can make sure that we get the right location to mount our brackets.In this case, were going to use the quick connect bracket or you can disconnect the brake controller just by pulling the two tabs, one on each side and slide the brake controller out.Now that we have our hole drilled for our wire in the pocket and the center of the dash, were going to go ahead and hold the bracket up, mark two locations followed by putting two small pilot holes at the drill for our screws that will hold the bracket in place. Now that we have our holes drilled, well go ahead and use the two small Phillips head screws that come with the kit and screw the bracket to the dash.Now that we have the bracket in place, well go ahead and push the wire up through the hole that we just drilled in the pocket of the dash then through the back of the bracket. Next, well go ahead and plug it into the back of the brake controller.When you plug this in, make sure that it snaps into place and that the locking tab actually snaps over the little clip. With that done, well go ahead and put the brake controller back into the bracket making sure that the two tabs, one on each side line up with what would be the screw holes on the side of the brake controller.
Youll also want to pull the excess wire back down up underneath the dash.Now that we have that done, well go ahead and locate the factory plugs thats located here underneath the center of the dash, just below the steering wheel. Its a grey plug and thats what well plug it into.Now that we have the connection made into the factory harness, we can go ahead and use a couple of zip ties to hold up any excess wire that might be on the way. Now that we have all these connections made, well go ahead and put the interior back together on the truck.Now that we have the interior back together, well need to go ahead and install the relay that comes from the factory. The relay will be installed in the fuse box that is located in the foot well on the passenger side of the vehicle.To access this fuse box, youll need to remove the interior panel and then remove the cover of the fuse box. The relay will be inserted into this slot on the fuse box.
Now that we have the relay in, go ahead and put the fuse box cover back on as well as the interior trim panel.Now, were ready to go ahead and test to make sure that our brake controller works properly. To do this, we will be using our tester. Seeing here, when theres nothing plugged into your 7-way at the back of your vehicle, it will say NC for no connection, meaning the trailer is not connected.Once you plug your trailer in, itll give you a C on the screen that means your trailer is connected. Now, before you tow, you want to make sure that you pull the manual override to make sure that you're getting a digital readout saying your power is being sent back to the electric brakes on the trailer.Now that weve tested our brake controller, thatll complete the installation of Part Number 90885-3035P on our 2008 Ford F-150.

I have not used the product in any towing yet.I will comment on the prompt shipping and the precise instalation guide. They were right on for everything they said. Great product. The price was perfect and item was delivered quickly. The install of the brake controller is easy. However, it requires tuning once the trailer is hooked up. This us a little tricky but can be done. You must drive and do hard stops then dial in the proper pressures.13499
