Proportional brake controller can be mounted within a 360-degree vertical range. Digital display indicates braking action of trailer. Fine-tune power adjustment has 5 levels so that you can set braking intensity to suit your towing needs.
With a proportional brake controller, you can get heavy-duty emergency braking, general braking or slow-to-an-idle braking for your trailer automatically. The intensity with which your trailer brakes are activated and the rate at which they are applied are dependent on the deceleration of your tow vehicle. This means that, unlike time-delay controllers - which send the same amount of preset power to your trailer brakes every time - proportional controllers are able to adapt to every braking situation differently. So, if you slam on the brakes in your truck, your trailer brakes will activate with that same extreme intensity. And if you merely slow down as you approach a red light, your trailer will gradually brake in the same manner.
As long as the Agility controller sits level on a horizontal plane and is pointed in the direction of travel, it will sense - via an internal inertia sensor - how your tow vehicle brakes. This inertia-based sensor responds to the deceleration of your tow vehicle as you brake by signaling the controller to send out enough power to your trailer brakes so that they are activated with an intensity that matches. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.
Getting the braking power you need for your application is simple with the Agility. First, set the overall power so that you can achieve maximum braking without locking up your trailer brakes.
Once you have the overall power set, you can fine-tune the power output by adjusting the sensitivity of the internal sensor. Use the adjustment buttons on the top of the controller to achieve your desired degree of intensity. There are 5 levels to choose from. The first level offers the least amount of sensitivity, making it ideal for lightweight setups. The heavier your load, the higher you will want to take the sensitivity. At level 5, the sensitivity of the internal sensor is as high as it can go. This level provides the most aggressive braking and is ideal for heavy loads.
On the front of the Agility there is a digital display that is designed to keep you aware of the braking action of your trailer. This screen shows your sensitivity level, overall power percentage and error codes for issues such as a short circuit.
The Hopkins Agility can be mounted anywhere within 360 degrees vertically, but it is recommended that it be mounted in your cab at an angle that is between -20 degrees and 70 degrees to make it easier to access.
Note: The Agility must be mounted on a level horizontal (side-to-side) plane and must be lined up with the direction of travel for the internal sensor to function properly.
To install the Agility, a vehicle-specific wiring adapter (sold separately) is required. These custom kits are available for most newer trucks and SUVs. One end of the custom adapter plugs into your Chevrolet Tahoe, and the other end plugs into the controller - no hardwiring required.

Today we are going to review part number HM47294. This is the Hopkins agility proportional trailer brake controllers designed for trailers with one to four axles. Comes with everything showing here, the controller, the mounting bracket, and the mounting hardware. Now, this brake controller will activate your trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer braking based on your deceleration of the tow vehicle and it does activate immediately so there is no pausing like with your time delayed brake controllers. It does have multiple mounting options. The agility must be mounted on a level, horizontal side to side plane. In other words, you do not want it this way or like this.
You want it to be horizontal and you want it to be going in the direction of travel so the internal sensor will function properly. It can be positioned at any angle, up or down, in a vertical plane. Basically it could do 360 degrees, but it is recommended to be able to view the screen that you mount it between a minus 20 down and a 70 degrees up. That is your recommended mounting. Now, it does have a digital display right up here. It is a very easy to read. The screen shows your sensitivity level, overall power percentage, and it even shows air codes for issues such as a short circuit. Now, on top has the power adjustment buttons, a plus and a minus, this will adjust your power sent to the trailer brakes.
It will be displayed as a percentage on the digital display from 5 to 99 in increments of 5 percent. The sensitivity feature which is right here on the side, it is a button, you push that. It has 5 different settings and that will make your trailer braking response more or less sensitive. Setting one would your least sensitive and setting 5 would be the most sensitive and then the air code SC, if it shows on here, would mean it is a short circuit. I am going to hook this up here in a minute just to show you those. It has a built in right up here manual override lever.
You can see this button when you push down that will override it and give you an immediate response to the brakes. It has a plug here on the controller. Now we do recommend when you install this to get a plug in vehicle specific brake controller adapter. We do sell those separately. to see if there is one for your vehicle we recommend you go to our website and under our fit guide check your year and model vehicle to see if there is one available. It is required to install this. Now we also sell a plug in that will plug into this if you cannot use a vehicle-specific adapter we do also sell one that is a plug to plug into this and the other end would be a four pigtail wires that you could hard wire into your vehicle.
We also sell those separately. Again, the application on this is for trailers with up to four axles or 8 brake assemblies and this is designed for use with electric brakes only. Here is what I am going to do is I have a connector hooked up to a 12 volt power source. I will go ahead and plug this in and then what you are going to notice when I turn it on, I have all the wires hooked up, you are going to see first comes on to set and then it will go to just a single red dot and when it shows a single red dot that is meaning the trailer is connected and you are ready to go. Now, if that dot did not show that would mean the trailer is not connected. You would have to make sure the trailer is connected. So with it in that position you are ready to go. Now, as far as the top, the power adjustments you can see here is the plus, so right now it is at 50. So you could do 55, 60, 65 and again, you go by 5 percent or you can go down 65, 60, 55, 50. And on this side we mentioned the sensitivity. If you push that you will see 2, 3, 4, 5 and then back to one. So you got 5 sensitivity features. And, then again, your manual override it if you have to apply the brakes immediately. You just push down on it. You can see that if you push it down gradually, it will ramp up gradually. But that should do it for the review on part number HM47294. The Hopkins agility porportional trailer brake controller with trailers with one to four axles. .

Excellent. I hooked this Hopkins controller up with the specified harness and after plugging it into the Factory OEM plus on my Honda Ridgline, all I had to do was add a 20amp fuse as they don't put it in the Ridgeline from the factory, but the manual does list that. Worked like a champ! This proportional controller allows my Ridgeline with the trailer to feel as if there is nothing on the truck when I'm breaking. Seems as if there is no trailer connected as compared to when I have pulled with electronic braking where you never seem to get the settings just right. 54187

Installed the HM47294 with the GM Brake Wiring Adapter HM47795 on my 2005 Yukon XL. Installation took only about 15 minutes and works perfectly. Great product. Very impressed with how fast the delivery was processed and delivered. Ordered on Tuesday - delivered on Thursday. Great email communication throughout. Thanks again. 19923

Fast service. Relatively easy to install (once you decide where to mount it). I haven't used it on my trailer yet, but I anticipate that it will work fine. I used the Plug in harness even tho' my Toyota Tacoma came with one, because I would rather not cut the wires from the controller and splice the wires from the harness. 110484
This product was very easy to install and it works fantastic on my 2014 Dodge Ram. I use it to pull a 20' trailer and a tractor. This product is priced right and does what it is designed to do.I would recommend it to anyone that tows or hauls for braking assurance.Thank you etrailer. 153607

I was able to install the brake controller in less than five minutes once I located the plug underneath my dash. Etrailer had a video that even showed where to look on my vehicle. This unit is very easy to adjust and it is flawless so far. I had already purchased a controller in a local retailer's store but they didn't carry the adapter I needed in order to install the unit. Etrailer.com had both units in stock and $20.00 less than my local store. I chose this unit because of the plug and play features and I know that if I want to change vehicles, I just need to purchase the corresponding adapter and I can easily transfer my Agility controller into my new vehicle. The shipping was fast and low cost. Etrailer.com was my last stop during this project but they will be my first stop for my next trailer project!! 35377

Looking forward to many a miles use of the Hopkins Agility. Install was a snap ... recommend using sockets vs. a screw driver to secure the screws to the unit. 79000
