Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller with General Motors Adapter (1999-2002) - 2002 Tahoe by Chevrolet

Tekonsha Prodigy Electric Trailer Brake Controller with General Motors Adapter (1999-2002)

Tekonsha introduces Prodigy, one of the most advanced and intelligent approaches to trailer brake controls. Prodigy, requiring no manual leveling, is a technological breakthrough among inertia-activated brake controls. Equipped with a self-adjusting sensing device similar to the one used in guided-missile technology to allow for easy, flexible installation - from nearly horizontal to nearly vertical - the Tekonsha Prodigy constantly adjusts itself to the position of the tow Chevrolet Tahoe.

Features:
  • Applies power to the trailer brakes in proportion to Chevrolet Tahoe's deceleration.
  • No level adjustment necessary - it adjusts itself to varying terrain as you drive.
  • Works proportionally in reverse - great for backing into tough spots.
  • Digital display depicts voltage delivery to trailer during braking.
  • Continual diagnostics check for proper connection, shorted magnet condition and much more.
  • "Boost" feature gives users the ability to apply more initial trailer braking power when towing heavier trailers.
  • Power-saving mode reduces drain on battery when Chevrolet Tahoe is not in use.
  • Unique pocket mount allows for flexible mounting options.
  • Quick and easy disconnect feature allows user to remove and store the control when not in use.
    • Vehicle specific wiring adapter is included to make installation simple
  • Rotary manual brake adjustment lever
  • Limited lifetime warranty
Specs:
  • Dimensions: 3-1/8" Wide x 5-1/8" Long x 1-3/16" High
  • Made for up to 4-axle trailer brake systems (2 to 8 Brakes)
  • Can be mounted between 0 degrees (level) and 70 degrees
  • Boost levels increase power up 0%, 13% and 25%
  • Power saving sleep mode draws 3.6 milliamp
  • Version 2.6
Installation:

The Chevrolet Tahoe specific adapter has one end that plugs into the back of the brake controller while the other end plugs into the port in the black box located under the dash.
Note: If your Chevrolet Tahoe has a factory installed hitch and 7-way connector, then all of the wires for the brake controller have already been run. If not, additional parts will be required to complete the installation of the brake controller.

Expert Answers about Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller with General Motors Adapter (1999-2002) - 90185-3025P Do you have a question about this Brake Controller with Wiring?

  • Wiring a 7-Way Trailer Connector After Installing a Brake Controller on a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado
  • We have a how to page that explains how this is done. All of the needed wires are already run to the rear of the vehicle, and are located above the spare tire. You will also need a 4 way to 7 way adapter, part # 37185. (Although you will probably have to cut off the 4 way connector on the adapter.)

  • Prodigy Brake Controller, part # 90185, disconnected, but read-out says connected
  • I spoke with our technical advisor and he said to start with the 7-way plug on the back of your Silverado. Unplug the 7-way plug from the factory plug beneath your rear bumper. If your Prodigy brake controller, part # 90185, shows the two dots, then the 7-way plug is the problem. If you still do not have the two dots on your brake controller when disconnected from the trailer, you will need to check the wires on the back of your brake controller. Follow these wires along the underside of your

  • Brake Failure on a Trailer Behind a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado
  • First thing to check is ground connections. Check to see if you can find the ground wires coming of the 7-Ways and see if they are grounded properly. If it is a factory harness, it could run all the way up to the battery so it may not be a problem. The next thing I would check is the fuse block in the engine bay. Factory tow wiring will have some fuses or relays for the system. If it is just the brake function that has gone out on the 7-Way, it is probably the fuse or breaker that provides po

  • Brake Controller has No Power, No 12 Volt or Trailer Brake Connections at Rear of 2002 Chevy Pickup
  • Your problem is both well documented and easily overcome. The good news is that you are looking in the right place. The bad news, well, there is no bad news! Here is what you need to do. Under the hood, where you found those red and blue wires, you will need to make some connections. Place the red wire with the ring terminal onto the nearest positive post. Place a 30 amp fuse in the spot closest to the positive post. Next, clip off that connector you saw on the blue wire. If you have not d

  • Install Aftermarket Trailer Brake Controller, 2011 GMC Sierra w/Factory Integrated Brake Controller
  • There are several steps to follow when installing an aftermarket brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy, # 90185, on a 2011 GMC Sierra with a factory integrated brake controller. The factory installed controller will not need to be disconnected to install the Prodigy. You will need to find the 4 or 5 blunt cut wires under the dash, slightly to the left and above the brake pedal. They will be held together with a white tag that should list the functions of the wires. It is these wires you

  • 2001 Chevy Suburban Tow Package Left Trailer Turn Signal and Brake Light Circuit Not Functioning
  • If all the tow package fuses are good, and you have checked the wiring behind the 7-way and are not getting any signal to the left turn/brake light pin on the trailer connector, there is a break in the wiring somewhere between the fuse box and the connector. You can trace the wiring if you care to, using a circuit tester working your way back up toward the front of the vehicle until you find the break in the wire. A simpler solution would be to simply bypass the lighting portion of the tow packa
