    • Also includes a pigtail wiring harness that can be hard-wired into another vehicle
  • Levels automatically
    • Self-adjusts to varying terrain
    • Eases installation and allows for more mounting options
  • Offers "boost" feature that adds more initial braking power when you're towing heavier trailers
  • Features a continuous diagnostic check
    • Monitors proper connection and magnet condition so that you can find problems before you hit the road
  • Furnishes protection for battery and brake-control functions
    • Reverse battery protection defends your brake controller and trailer breakaway systems from shorts
    • Power-saving mode reduces drain on the battery when vehicle is not in use - draws only 3.6 milliamps
  • Shows voltage delivery to trailer brakes on a blue digital LED display
  • Has a built-in, rotary manual override lever
  • Detaches for easy portability - just unplug the brake controller from the brake-control adapter

Specs:

  • Application: up to 4-axle trailer brake systems (8 brake assemblies total)
    • Works with electric-over-hydraulic systems
  • Dimensions: 3-1/8" wide x 5-1/8" long x 1-3/16" high
  • Boost power increase: 0 percent, 14 percent and 28 percent
  • Mounting: 360-degree vertical range
  • Pigtail wiring harness length: about 34"
  • Limited lifetime warranty

The Prodigy P2 electric brake controller supplies power to your tow vehicle's brakes proportionally. This means that your trailer brakes at the same time and with the same strength as your vehicle - even in reverse gear. So if you have to slam on your truck's brakes, the trailer's brakes respond instantly, too - there's no delay. Thus your vehicle's brakes aren't overworked from trying to stop the entire load, and they suffer less wear and tear. The P2 also cuts power to the trailer's brakes when your vehicle is stopped - extending the life of the magnets and brake shoes in the trailer's brake assemblies.

Aside from smoother, more efficient braking that results from proportional application of stopping power, the Prodigy P2 also has a boost feature that gives you more initial braking power for those times when you're towing heavier loads. That's when more braking power is needed to stop the trailer at the same time as the tow vehicle. The boost setting sends 13 or 25 percent more power (depending on which setting you choose) back to the trailer brakes, thus compensating for heavier loads. You can boost the power manually at the push of a button as well. The boost feature gets more power to the trailer brakes exactly when you need it most, and your fully loaded rig brakes smoothly and comfortably.

This brake controller levels automatically as you drive, so there's no problem using it on steep hills or when towing through the mountains. The self-leveling feature also makes the Prodigy easy to install: Simply mount it in your cab at any vertical angle (it has 360-degree rotation). It's easy to see the display and to access the pivoting manual override lever on the bottom of the unit.

The P2's continuous diagnostic check monitors your connection and magnet condition, so you can fix any problems before they land you on the side of the road. This newest version of Tekonsha's popular Prodigy brake controller has reverse battery protection to preserve the unit and accessory systems. And the power-save mode reduces battery drain when the controller isn't in use.

The included mounting pocket and vehicle-specific wiring harness make your brake controller portable. Your unit slides out of the pocket mount for easy transfer of the brake controller to another vehicle. And one end of the adapter harness plugs directly into your vehicle, while the other plugs into your P2 - no hard-wiring required. Just unplug the unit to move it to another vehicle or for storage. An instructional DVD that is included with the brake controller's written instructions allows you to take full advantage of all the features.

How the Prodigy P2 Is Different from the Original Prodigy

  • More mounting options - 360-degree vertical rotation
  • Better protection - reverse battery protection for vehicle and trailer breakaway systems
  • Versatility - works with electric-over-hydraulic trailer brake systems
  • Blue LED digital display

Installation:

The vehicle specific adapter has one end that plugs into the back of the brake controller, while the other end plugs into the port located under the dashboard, to the left of the steering column. It will be taped to another harness near the brake pedal.

Note: If your vehicle has a factory-installed trailer hitch and 7-way connector, then all the wires for the brake controller have already been run. If not, additional parts will be required to complete the installation of the brake controller.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2012 Honda Pilot

Video Transcript for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2012 Honda Pilot

Today on our 2012 Honda Pilot we'll be installing Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller with direct fit wiring harness part number 90885-3070P.To begin our install we'll first locate the manufacturers plug up underneath the dash. This plus is located above the kick panel on the drivers side, taped to the manufacturers wire. It's a grey plug with some black electrical tape and maybe also indicated with blue electrical tape. Now we've located it lets go ahead and cut the electrical tape so we can plug the plug down and gain access to it. Next, we'll take our direct fit wiring harness and plug directly into the manufacturers connector. The other other end of our harness will plug directly into the break controller. Now with our wire connected to the manufacturers wire we'll go ahead and mount our bracket, or in this case, a pocket, for our break controller to sit in. We'll be mounting it to the right of the steering wheel near the console, out of the way, but easily accessible to the driver.

Using the hardware provided with out install kit we'll go ahead and mount it now.Next we'll go ahead and start routing our wire over to the pocket. Note I will be taking some black electrical tape and wrapping up the end of the wire, just to clean up our install look. Note when routing your wire you'll want to stay away from any moving components, such as the break peddle or steering linkage. Now we'll feed it through the pocket and then we can plug our break controller, drop it in the pocket and lock it in place.Next I'll go ahead an use some black zip ties to secure my wiring up underneath the dash. Now to clean up our install look we'll go ahead and cut off the excess from the zip ties.Next we'll move underneath the hood.

Here we'll need to locate the secondary fuse panel just below the air intake. Pressing on the three locking tabs we can go ahead and remove the cover. Looking for pin position number 14 we'll add a 20 amp fuse. This will send power to our brake controller. Now with the fuse installed, we'll go ahead and replace the cover and verify that we now have power to our brake controller. As you can see we do and this will complete the install for the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller with direct fit wiring harness part number 90885-3070P on our 2012 Honda Pilot..

Ok, so I usually do not write reviews. But I have to give etrailer a double thumbs up. I have not installed the product I received yet but the customer service I received was great. I have had 3-4 emails from the customer service dept regarding my shipping from the day it shipped to arrival and I received upgraded shipping, FREE. I also received a notice from Katie to inform me my package had arrived, no less than 1 hour after it's arrival. And it's all there as promised. I will trust Tekonsha's installation will go as planned. Great job, great offers and great follow up. Thanks, etrailer.7001

Ridgeline WOW. Dealing with etrailer.com is like dealing with family. The product offering was exactly what I needed and wanted. It plugs into my truck with no wire spliceing needed. It was on my doorstep on the 4th day from my order, was exactly as described. Oh and after ordering it from etrailer.com I checked a major internet site for pricing. etrailer.com had beat their price. Try them you'll be glad you did.5542

  • Parts Needed to Install a Prodigy P2 Brake Controller on a 2008 Honda Ridgeline
  • 2008 Honda Ridgeline models that did not come with a factory 7-Way may not have a brake controller plug under the dash. It is common to see 7-Way plugs that only get partially installed to power br

  • Parts Needed to Install a Tekonsha P2 Trailer Brake Controller on a 2011 Honda Pilot
  • Since your 2011 Honda Pilot came with a factory installed 7-Way, all you will need to install the brake controller is the brake controller itself, # 90885 that you have referenced, and the wiring harness, # 3070-P. This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector on your vehicles built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the brake pedal.
