Toyota FJ Cruiser Bike Rack Questions

  • If you are looking for a bike rack that will give you complete access to the rear cargo area of your vehicle I have a great solution for you. But the Rola # 59401 would not tilt far enough forward to allow you to access the cargo area of your vehicle. Instead I would recommend the Thule Vertex Swing bike rack part # TH9031XT as it can swing out and away from the back of your vehicle to give you complete access to the rear door with bikes loaded. Check out the review video I...

  • In order to determine if there is enough clearance to access the black T-bolt handle on the Yakima Swing Daddy # Y02464, you will want to take a quick measurement on your 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser. By using a yard stick held at the rearmost point of your FJ Cruiser and a tape measure, you can determine what clearance is needed for the rack to clear the back of your vehicle. I've attached a help article on how to find this clearance for you. The T-bolt handle sits 6 inches...

  • The Yakima SpareTime bike rack part # Y02598 that you referenced has been confirmed as a fit for your 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser so it would fit. This is an excellent spare tire mounted bike rack so I would recommend it for you. I attached a review video that shows how it installs and it's features for you to check out as well. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out...

  • The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier # HRSR1 should work just fine on your 2013 FJ Cruiser with a backup camera. It will fit around the wheel and would not interfere with the camera aside from its view being mostly blocked by your bikes. On an FJ forum there was a guy who removed the camera and mounted it to the bike rack frame so that the camera would be use-able with bikes loaded. Also, I do not recommend you have your bikes loaded on the rack while you open and close...

  • There is a quick way to take a measurement on your 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser to see if you have the clearance for a bike carrier. You will need a tape masure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Place the straight edge vertically against the back of the spare tire, letting it extend below the trailer hitch receiver opening. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin to the straight edge. This will give you the distance you need to clear the spare tire. I have attached...

  • The Thule Vertex Swing 4 Bike Rack # TH9031XT that you referenced has a distance of 14 inches from the center of it's hitch pin hole to the back of the upright mast on the bike rack so it should easily clear the spare of your 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser.

  • From my research I found that the rear door on an FJ Cruiser opens with the hinge on the driver side of the vehicle. I recommend The SportRack Ridge Swing Bike Rack, part # SR2415. This bike carrier swings away from the rear of the vehicle allowing you room for full access to the back of your Cruiser. It has a weight capacity of 140 lbs. To help deter theft of the bike carrier or the bikes I recommend part # A32022. This includes both a hitch lock and a cable lock and is keyed-alike....

  • I believe I have a swing away 4 bike rack that will work on your 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser, but the Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Carrier # TH9027 that you referenced will not have enough clearance to clear your spare tire. We have an FJ Cruiser in our parking lot that has a distance of 8-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest part of the spare tire. Since the # TH9027 has a distance of 7-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the nearest portion of the...

  • On similar 2012 Toyota FJ Cruisers we have found that the distance from the center of the hitch-pin to the outer most edge of the spare tire is 8 inches. The Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Carrier # TH9027 has a distance of 10-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of arms of the rack so it should have plenty of clearance and work very well for you. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also. If you plan on carrying any womens or...

  • If you are okay with not using the back up camera while carrying bikes I recommend going with the Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier - Spare Tire Mount, part # HRSR1, which you reference. You will have to remove the plastic cover from the spare tire for it to fit. Since you plan on carrying a womens bikes, I recommend picking up the Bike Frame Adapter Bar, # HRBA-PRO. Bikes with small or angled frames can be difficult to load on a bike rack and cause ground clearance issues....

  • The Swagman Titan 3 bike rack # S63405 is an excellent choice for a bike rack that has many of the features as some of the more expensive racks. For the money I think it is one of the best racks we offer and I believe it would work very well for you. I already checked and you should have plenty of hitch-to-bumper clearance for this rack to fit on your vehicle as well. I attached a review video for you to check out also. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative...

  • The Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack # Y02457 that fits both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches does tilt down for better access to the rear of your FJ Cruiser. We have not had a chance to test fit this particular rack on your particular vehicle but since it does tilt down about 45-degrees it will provide enough clearance for rear hatch opening on most vehicles. We have tested the rack on several SUVs (please see the linked videos) and when unloaded the rack's tilt is enough for full hatch...

  • To determine if the Thule Apex swinging trailer hitch mount bike rack will fit your 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser you will need to take some measurements. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire and bumper. I have linked a how to article that shows how to take the measurement. Once you have the relevant measurements you can compare them to the ones below to determine fit: Distance from center of hitch pin hole...

  • If the backup camera is mounted anywhere on the spare tire or spare tire carrier of your 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser the Thule Spare Me, # TH963PRO, will not fit. Otherwise it is listed as a fit. If your FJ Cruiser does have a back up camera that is mounted right in the center of the spare then I recommend using Hollywood Racks spare tire mount bike rack # HRSR1 instead. But you will have to remove the plastic cover from the spare tire for it to fit. I have linked video reviews...

  • To determine if the Thule Helium Aero # TH9042 will fit your 2011 FJ Cruiser, you will need to take an important measurement. Measure from the center of the trailer hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire. If this distance is less than 10-3/4 inches then the bike rack will fit. I do have another option. The Thule Spare Me, # TH963PRO, is listed as a fit for your 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I have included a link to a video review of the rack...

  • If the backup camera on your 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser is located at the center of the spare tire then you will not be able to use a spare tire mounted bike carrier. If the camera is located elsewhere then you can and I have included a link to all of the spare tire carriers that will fit. If the camera is located at the spare tire then the best option to carry bikes is a trailer hitch. The most popular option is # 75461. Please note that none of the hitches will fit if your FJ...

  • The easiest way to find out if any hitch accessory will work with your rear-mounted spare on your FJ Cruiser is to take a quick measurement. You will need a tape measure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Place the straight edge vertically against the back of the bumper or spare tire, letting it extend below the trailer hitch receiver opening. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin to the straight edge. This will give you the distance you need to clear...

  • Yes, indeed! We can help you select a 2-inch hitch-mount bike rack for use on your 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser with rear-mounted spare tire. We offer a range of 4-bike hitch racks that will fit the 2-inch Class III hitch on your FJ. First, you will want to take one simple measurement of the vehicle. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the vehicle; in your case this will likely be the spare tire cover. The linked article illustrates how to take...

  • The Thule Spare Me 2 Bike Rack, part # TH963PRO mounting plate will need to be removed in order to mount the SportRack 3 Bike Rack, part # SR2813. If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product...
