Lexus GX 470 Bike Rack Questions

  • This battle really comes down to the Yakima FullSwing, # Y02465, and the Thule Apex, # TH9027. Yakima was recently here to visit us and they brought along with them the FullSwing. It is a good looking rack but other than that some of the features I did not care for. The mechanisms to fold the arms or whole rack can be difficult to use. The cradles are adjustable but the tops of the arms has detents that are not adjustable. So if you need more space between bikes you cannot...

  • Bike racks that tilt out away from the back of the vehicle are usually not the best option for a rear door that opens to the side of the vehicle. because of that, it eliminates the Vertex and the Softride. The FlipSide could work except that you would have to remove the bikes, tilt the rack, and then open the door which could be a hassle every time. What I recommend is a different type of bike rack that would be perfect for this application. Take a look at the swinging Vertex,...

  • Yes, in order to mount the Thule Hitching Post Pro Folding Tilting 4 Bike Rack, # TH934XTR, on your 2007 Lexus GX 470, your vehicle will need to be equipped with a hitch like the Curt Custom Fit Trailer Hitch, # 13445. Another convenient option for carrying bikes with your Lexus would be with a trunk mounted bike rack like the Thule Archway 3 Bike Carrier, # TH9010XT. This option would limit you to carrying a maximum of three bikes at one time. I have attached a link to...

  • The fit of the Thule Apex Swing Bike Rack you mentioned, part # TH9027 will depend on how far under the vehicle your hitch is recessed. You'll need to measure the distance between the hitch pin hole in your receiver tube to the furthest rearward point of your rear bumper. I'll link you to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. If your measurement is less than 4-1/2 inches, the Thule Apex Swing will fit perfectly. If the measurement you took is greater than that, the Thule...

  • Your husband will want to line up the hitch pin holes on the Thule Vertex Swing 4 Bike Rack, # TH9031XT, with those on the hitch of your 2006 Lexus GX 470 and then install the anti-rattle bolt that came with the bike rack. You can tighten the bolt with the tool provided or use a 3/4 inch wrench which may actually work better. I have included a video for you to check out.

  • Either the Thule Swingdaddy or the Vertex, # TH9031XT, will fit a 2003 Lexus GX 470, provided the vehicle has a 2 inch trailer hitch. The side opening rear door may be opened but there is a chance that you will not be able to open it all of the way, only most of the way. But even if the rack does only partially interfere, you will still have near complete access to the rear of the vehicle when the rack is swung out. I have included a link to a video review of the Vertex for...

  • I have two options for a trunk mount bike rack if your spoiler on your 2003 Lexus GX470 is metal. The first option is the Thule Gateway # TH9006XT. This rack holds two bikes, has anti-sway arms and folds up for storage. This is your basic, sturdy, economical bike rack. The other bike rack I recommend is the Thule Archway # TH9009XT which has a few more bells and whistles. This rack also holds two bikes, has an integrated locking cable and has an additional layer of cushioning...

  • I would go with the Thule Vertex part # TH9031XT over the Yakima Swingdaddy part # Y02464. The Vertex has arced arms on the rack to make loading and unloading the rack easier as it puts the bikes at different heights. The Vertex is also about 17 lbs lighter. I also like the frame cradles on the Vertex better as they have more cushioning and have tracks for the cables of your bike to fit in. The only thing I really like about the Swingdaddy is the strap system. You don't have...
