So one of the big things that really separates this platform style rack from a lot of the others out there is how it's going to secure your bike. So it's going to use two wheel hooks. So one in the back and one here in the front, and that's not the case with a lot of them.

Today on our 2011 Toyota Prius, we're going to be test-fitting the Thule Big Mouth. This is a frame clamp style, roof bike rack. It's part number is TH599XTR. We have our Thule Traverse Roof Rack System already installed on the Prius, so we'll begin our test-fit by placing our bike rack right up on to our load bars. Here at the front we've got two clamps that come down. We'll remove the T-bolt from the clamps.

Today on our 2011 Toyota Prius, we'll be test fitting the Thule Raceway 2 Bike Carrier Trunk Mounted, part number TH9001. To begin our test fit, we'll need to fit our dial according to the instructions or the Thule Fit Guide. In this case, we need to set our fit dial to dial number 7. We'll place our carrier directly onto the rear of our Prius. We need to make sure that the lower arm of our carrier sits on the bottom well of our licensed plate. We'll go ahead and fit our top hooks at the top part of our rear hatch.

Well move to the rear of the shank and use the hand knob to secure our bike rack to the vehicle and engage our anti-rattle device.Now, well go over some key measurements. We have about 12 inches of ground clearance. The closest point of the carrier to the rear of the Prius is about 3 inches. Weve added about 14 inches to the overall length of our Toyota Prius.We can open our rear hatch without tilting the bike rack, but if we have some larger items we want to load, well just pull the pin at the base of the carrier to allow our carrier to tilt away from the vehicle.With our mast back in its upright position, well pull the pin at the top of the mast to swing out our dual arms. With these out, weve added about 25 inches to the overall length of our Toyota Prius.Well undo the cradle straps just swing our cradles and place our bike on to the frame cradles.
