Today on our 2010 GMC Sierra we'll be installing Topline fold down truck bed extender, part number BX4004-01. First note that this vehicle has a tailgate cover. We'll need to remove the cover and locate the position for our bed extender. Let's go ahead and remove the fasteners and sit the cover aside. Now we'll go ahead and sit the bed extender up on the tailgate. We'll need to locate a flat surface for our SS brackets or stainless steel brackets to sit which will be our attachment points for the bed extender.
Here on the outside edge from both sides will be a perfect location. Now the bed extender is somewhat universal in that we'll be able to go ahead and loosen up the tube clamps and evenly space, side to side, pull the bed extender apart. Now that we've got it evenly spaced and our bed extender in the position that well be mounting it we'll then go ahead and take some measurements so that we can cut the tailgate cover around the SS brackets. For our application we have 14 and 1/4 inches in length from the end of the tailgate, 2 and a 1/4 from the inside edge of the hinge at the back point of the bracket and 2 inches from the front point of the bracket. Then 2 inches from the rear edge of the bracket to the end of the tailgate.
Note that each application will be slightly different and you'll want to go ahead and measure this out for your application. Now with our measures made we'll go ahead and remove the bed extender, sit it aside. We'll put the tailgate cover back into position. After we have it lined up we'll go ahead and take our tape measure and mark it out with out paint marker. Now with everything marked out we'll go ahead and use the rotary zip tool to cut out this section.
Now we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the opposite side. Now with both sides cut out we'll go ahead and bolt down the tailgate cover. Note we did lose two attachments. Next we'll bring our bed extender back into position, lining it up, we'll mark our forward two attachment points. Now with the holes marked out we'll go ahead and sit the bed extender aside, use the center punch on our mark and then drill it out.
We'll start with a pilot hole at a 1/4 inch. then step up to a 25/64 as per the instructions. Now with the four forward holes drilled out, two on each side, we'll go ahead and slide in the turn nuts into position. This will be our attachment points. Once we have the four turn nuts into position we'll go ahead and put the bed extender into place and secure it. Note we'll just be snugging it down into position. This way we can go ahead and double check the operation of the bed extender. Now that we can see our bed extenders going to work out just fine we'll go ahead and mark out the third attachment point right at the bed extender hinge. With our mark made, once again we'll use our center punch, we'll go ahead and remove the bed extender and brackets and drill out our hole installing the turn nut. Next we'll install the two gaskets one on each hinge. They'll fit between the hinge and the tailgate. Now we'll go ahead and secure the brackets top the tailgate. With both bracket secured our next step will be to reinstall the bed extender. Now we'll go ahead and check for operation by opening it up and locking it into position. Then we can go ahead and collapse the arms and fold the tailgate. There you have it. That will complete the install for the Topline fold down truck bed extender, part number BX4004-01, on our 2010 GMC Sierra.

HAVETO DRILL TAILGATE TO USE The description says that it attaches to tailgate but not until you get it and read the instructions does it mention anything about "drilling holes". Once I received it, I found that you need to drill SIX 25/64" holes to mount it and while it DOES fold, it does NOT flip over into the bed to provide a small cargo area ( like for groceries ). All hardware is Stainless Steel but the bolts are very short and the "nut inserts" are very cheap. Unless you have an old work truck or don't care about drilling holes in your tailgate, DON'T BUY THIS ! Shipping costs for delivery, return and exchange will make it too expensive to return / exchange so you'll be stuck with it !2086

We HIGHLY recommend this bed extender! Do not hesitate to purchase this item. For the money we spent, it was sooooo easy to put together. It is very easy to close up as well when you don't need it. 19101

The ordering and shipping process was very smooth, Parts arrived earlier than I expected, The product itself is what I expected, however the mounting bolts are a weak link, I was only able to use 1 of the 4 supplied as they came apart, very poorly constructed. I had to purchase a make shift anchor to finish application. The product is fine and the mounting anchors were not acceptable.58394

I really like this product. Unlike the others this folds out of the way. It's built pretty good and the latchs catch tight. Bottom line is that I'm glad I bought it. One word of caution: watch what's under the drill mark you need to have about and inch for the fittings to work (my gate latch was under my middle hole and I didn't realize it until I had all ready drilled so I couldn't use that one) Like the instructions say though you really only need the #1and #3 holes to work on a small tailgate. If I really want to I could drill new holes. 35033
