CTEK MULTI US 7002 Charging Process

Superior and safe, this eight-step process (plus Supply Mode) uses switch-mode, pulse-maintenance technology.

  1. Desulfation stage is the initial charging phase. This stage uses electronic pulses to desulfate batteries by converting lead sulfate crystals back to usable sulfuric acid.
  2. Soft-start stage tests the battery to see whether it can be charged. If the battery is unable to hold the initial charge, the unit goes into Error Mode, alerting you that your battery must be replaced.
  3. Bulk stage is the main charging phase. This stage accounts for 80 percent of the charging process and uses a constant charge level.
  4. Absorption stage completes the charge (to virtually 100 percent) using diminishing current to prevent battery damage.
  5. Analysis stage kicks in if the pre-set maximum time needed for absorption is exceeded. The unit measures the battery voltage and stops the charging process, automatically lighting an error indicator if the battery is faulty.
  6. Recond mode is used to recondition a battery that has been severely discharged. After the battery has been charged in Normal Mode and analysis has been completed, the charger reconditions the battery w/ a constant current of 1.5A and a maximum voltage of 15.7V for up to 4 hours.
  7. Float-maintenance stage maintains a constant voltage of 13.6V during the first 10 days.
  8. Pulse-maintenance stage begins after the 10 days of float maintenance. This long-term stage maintains the battery at the optimum charge level of 95 to 100 percent by recognizing any drop in voltage and sending a corresponding pulse of current to keep the battery properly charged. Pulse maintenance can be continued for months at a time.

Supply mode - available only on this CTEK model - provides backup power to your vehicle while the battery is being changed. No more tiresome system resetting after battery changes.

CTEK US 7002 charging process chart

A goof-proof design distinguishes CTEK's new-generation chargers from the competition - you don't have to be a mechanical guru to keep your battery working at top efficiency. CTEK's patented charging system monitors your battery, providing exactly the charge it needs during each unique charging stage!

Protects the User

Your personal safety is paramount, and CTEK's spark-free, short-circuit-proof design incorporates a feature that prevents reverse polarity, keeping you safe. You simply cannot make a polarity mistake: The charger will not operate if it is attached incorrectly. In addition, the red alarm light on the charger alerts you if there is a reverse-polarity problem.

Protects the Battery

CTEK's patented, switch-mode, pulse-maintenance charging system is scientifically engineered to safely charge your battery by employing the most up-to-date technology. Using carefully monitored, low-grid voltage, CTEK's patented process differs from competitors' chargers in its ability to provide the precise final voltage that your battery needs to maintain optimum charge level. This sophisticated, interactive device will never overcharge or undercharge your battery. You may leave it attached to the battery for months, making it perfect for seasonal vehicle storage.

Won't cause overcharging or overheating. These together can cause gassing and excessive acid concentration that shortens the life of the battery by corroding the lead plates. When overcharged, the battery cells become dried out. Electrolytes "boil dry," generating excessive heat that can cause a fire.

Won't cause undercharging or sulfation. Undercharging can be just as damaging to your battery as overcharging because chronic undercharging leads to sulfation. Sulfation occurs when the lead and lead dioxide of the battery's plates react w/ sulfuric battery acid to produce lead sulfate. This in turn is converted back to lead, lead oxide and sulfuric acid. A small, unavoidable amount of sulfation and gassing naturally takes place as a result of the chemical processes occurring in lead-acid batteries. However, extensive undercharging causes extra lead sulfate to accumulate on the lead plates of the battery. Because the crystalline form of the sulfate cannot hold an electrical charge, excessive sulfation greatly diminishes the charging ability of the battery, eventually rendering it unusable.

Provides desulfation w/ a patented process. Desulfation is the reversal of sulfation damage. The CTEK charger's unique process not only prevents the undercharging that produces excess sulfation, it also includes a desulfating step that can often "revive" a lightly sulfated battery. It accomplishes this w/ carefully monitored electronic pulses of energy that help to break down the lead sulfate crystals, allowing the battery to accept charge once again.

Ensures consistent charging w/ low ripple-wave percentage rate. Ripple-wave percentage is the quantity of disturbances exhibited in current and voltage. Even minor variations in household current can cause undercharging or overcharging, but CTEK's low-ripple design regulates the incoming current before passing it on to your battery. This process can cause the charger to be a little slower than linear chargers but results in a healthier, more productive, longer-lasting battery.

Protects the Vehicle and Its Electronics

The charger is also safe for your vehicle. Its sophisticated circuitry is designed to be compatible w/ today's sensitive electronics and audio equipment. You can confidently charge your battery while it is still in the vehicle: no more hefting heavy batteries! CTEK's low ripple rate eliminates the danger of damaging electronic devices connected to the battery, and it prolongs the battery's service life. If you must replace your battery, the Supply Mode provides backup power to your vehicle's systems when you remove or replace the battery, sparing you the hassle of resetting your controls.

Video Transcript for CTEK Multi US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger Review

Today we are going to show you part number CTEK56353 from Ctek. This is the Multi US 7002 charger. And what this charger does is best for a variety of different vehicles. Lets cover the components. First off, you obviously have the charger itself, it has clamps that will clamp onto the battery itself and charge it, and also, it has a permanent mount of two ring terminals here that use this port to connect up to the charger itself. :28

The clamps also have the same type of port to hook up to the charger. Everything can fit in this bag right here that comes supplied with it too. Lets go ahead and cover the charger and a few more details. First of, we have it plugged in, you can see that it is getting power by the indicator light right there. Go ahead and hit the mode button, now thats normal, its going to fit the vast majority of batteries out there. Car, truck, boat batteries. :57

The next one, the snow flake is for deep cycle mode, that is for optima batteries. And also, if you have a regular car battery, and it is below 41 degrees, its really cold out, that type of charge it uses in that mode is a lot easier on the battery when it is in the cold. Next is a supply feature which is really cool, what it does is puts out a constant 13 volts so you can actually hook this up to your vehicle and supply the vehicle with power while you take out the battery or change the battery. It is a neat little system that it has built in there. And finally, it has a reconditioning mode. Basically you want to use that after your battery is fully charged, it really good when you have a battery or a deep cycle battery that has been fully discharged, this actually reconditions the battery again. All right we will go ahead and hook this up to the battery here, show you a more realistic setting. We will demonstrate how to hook up to this battery here. First off, it is gong to be black to negative and red to positive. Then what we will do is this port here will connect to the port of the Ctek charger, just snaps together like so. All right we have it hooked up, finally we will go ahead and plug it to our 1-10 outlet and then this is regular maintenance for your battery. 2:18

So we will go ahead and switch it to normal mode, as you can see here it is blinking. Right now the charger is in desulphation mode. That means that it is getting the battery ready to charge. After that it will do what is called a soft charge, and then it will work its way up to the bolt charge, and then absorption which will top off the battery. And then it will analyze the condition of the battery. What it will do next is go into float mode, and then to top off the battery to maintain it. And then after that, its left in storage leave it on there, you can leave it on there for weeks or months if you need to, it will stay in pulse mode to maintain the voltage in the battery. It is easy to get in a hurry or make a mistake, you can easily put the red to black and black to red, and what happens is the charger is smart enough to know that condition and match it to it. But it does not allow anything to short out, so you are still safe. In a typically application you have to change out the battery, you are going to go ahead and undo your terminals, and then your radio is going to loose all its presets, so then you have to go back and fix all your presets and that stuff. There is a way around that, with your charger in supply mode what we can do is go back and put on our charger, loosen up, this can also go on a different ground on the vehicle also. Go ahead and loosen this one up. There is still a little bit of power going to it, so you want to be careful you do not take your wrench and go to something that is grounded and fry it. This is the idea. 4:16

Move this out of the way and go ahead change the battery and not have to worry about losing our radio settings. You do not have to use the clamps to change out the battery too. Depending on the configuration of the terminals on your vehicle, you can probably use the ring terminals to hook up from the CTEK charger, and go ahead and change out your battery that way. Whichever works out the best for you. With that we have covered all the functions and details of part number CTEK56353 from CTEK.

This is my second purchase for etrailer. The service has been excellent each time, and the quality of the products is also excellent. The CTEK battery charger is easy to use. I have used it on Optima batteries, which don't charge as well on conventional chargers. It works great. Just hook it up, and it stops when it is finished.16321

  • Can the CTEK Battery Chargers Resurrect Nearly Dead Trailer Break Away Batteries
  • The CTEK US 3300 12-Volt Battery Charger, # CTEK56158, may be able to resurrect your batteries but if they were dead long enough, they would probably be too far gone to bring back to working order. The best bet for this scenario would be the CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger, # CTEK56353, because it has a special reconditioning mode that restores the power capacity of stratified batteries. The 7002 also has an 8-step charging process.

  • Parts Needed to Charge a Trailer Battery for a Winch
  • First, the wiring on a trailer connector can provide a maintenance charge to a 12 volt battery on a trailer but it will not be able to fully charge it. The 12 volt circuit on a 7-Way is already circuit protected so a separate fuse or breaker should not be needed. There is a way you can provide a charge to the battery from the truck. You would need to equip the truck and trailer with separate single pole connectors independent of the 7-Way. For the trailer side, you would need Pollak Single-Po

You would need to separate the two 12 volt systems and then charge them independently of each other (one at a time). Charging each battery one at a time will actually take the least amount of time. If your charger can do both 6 volt and 12 volt batteries make sure you have it set to the proper mode. If your system ultimately puts ou
